I remember a friend telling me once about a film called Edward Penishands and that wasn't sued. Taksraven

A little bit out of the anime mainstream (and by little bit I mean completely,) but wasn't there a transforming building mecha in the movie Big with Tom Hanks? Taksraven

What he said. To quote Han Solo, "Boring conversation anyway". I will agree on the matter of breasts, with certain characters and their portrayals certainly making it a bit more difficult to recommend it to others. Would we go so far as to call it sexism, I don't know. Taksraven (Now I'll probably get jumped on for calling it sexism when its probably just some Japanase cultural tradition. I am probably saying too much about myself and my cultural prejudices.)

I dunno, there was always an unnerving (pardon the pun) factor with those units, I think its the Loretta Swit lips on them. Scary. Taksraven

No, you word it like I said that teenagers must be buying the soundtrack CD's. Thats not what I said. With your mention of university students in your original post I suspected what your answer would be. I just didn't expect to be talked to like I was a caveman who had just fallen out of his tree. And please, never *ever* assume that I am assuming anything. Well, you are the one who bragged about living there. Whatever. This quote right above, its all you had to say. As a fellow teacher, you should know that if a student asks you a question, you don't begin your answer with "Well, aren't you an idiot for not knowing.........." or "Your question proves what a dummy you are." Thanks for trying to teach me, sorry I'm such a rotten student. Taksraven

Maybe I'm just being nasty now, but annoying little sister mecha, who needs it? Taksraven

Oh god, can't believe that I forgot Jet Alone. Certainly a lame mecha in every sense of the word. I love how it looks like it was designed in about five minutes and the original sketch probably ended up being what was animated. Good call. Taksraven

Ha Ha - Battletech, the bastard child of Macross & robotech. Taksraven

Just thought I would point out, that despite a few weaker moments, there was no bad animation in MacrossF that really compared to some of the bad outsourced animation from the original SDF:M. I use that as a benchmark and if it had ever gotten *that* bad I might be more inclined to agree with you. And please don't post up that notoriously badly animated shot of Ranka. ;) Taksraven

Evidently no method available to record TV programs in Japan. (joke) If your argument is correct, then who has been purchasing the Macross Frontier soundtracks and singles that have apparently been so popular? Just interested to know. Taksraven

I thought that the VF-17 and VF-171's were supposed to be a bit smaller than other valks? Or am I confused?

Old news, I know, but still really funny...

"John Scot Barrowman (born 11 March 1967) is a Scottish-born actor, singer, dancer, musical performer and media personality, with dual citizenship in the UK and the US[1], currently based in England." There is this thing called Wikipedia. Taksraven

I think that what a lot of the older die-hard Doctor Who fans either refuse to realise or ignore is the fact that in the last 4-5 years there has been a major gender-shift in the fanbase for the show and this is having an impact on things like casting. Prior to the revival, I think that most of Doctor Who's fanbase was predominantly male, but since 2005 and the introduction of Billie Piper as Rose and David Tennant as the Doctor the show has picked up a LOT of female fans, esp. teenage girls. (My daughter loves Tennant and is shattered that he is leaving) I think that this shift in the fanbase more than anything else has led to Matt Smith being cast as the new Doctor. And a lot of the older, die-hard fans are upset as a result. Personally, I am just happy that the show is still running and will continue to support it as long as it doesn't turn into crap like it did in the late 1980's. Taksraven

C'mon, don't you have other people to victimise and abuse?

Their only plus side, if they could be said to have one, is that they would be very easy to mass produce, with such a simple and standardised design. Kind of like the PeeWee's from Total Annihilation and they would be great for "rushing". What Gundam is that pic from anyway? Its really good artwork apart from crap unit designs. Taksraven

"Row, Row, Row Your Boat" Sounds like Star Trek V in a nutshell actually!!! A-hahahahahahahahahahaha. Taksraven

Doubtful, I'm sure that they would scrape together all their coppers and small change, go into debt, whatever was needed to try to maintain that copyright AND control of Macross/Robotech or whatever the hell it is that they CLAIM that they own. Their only other option would be for them to abandon RT (not likely) and just distribute Macross in the U.S. (If they legally could). I think that its a bunch of bloody minded bastards doing this, determined to get their own way. Taksraven

This thread really seems to be stating the obvious. Macross Frontier was flawed? Of course it was. Not many productions are perfect. Macross Frontier pandered to the fans of Macross and anime in general? Yes it did, we know that too. Macross Frontier depicted material to appeal to various fetishes? Well duh! Macross Frontier was made in such a way to court popularity with the public? Yes, but since when has that been a crime? In my mind, Macross Frontier was made to be a fun and enjoyable experience for the fans. A bit of a love-letter to the fans, yes that too. BUT, it was also designed to include elements that would attract new fans. Just a little reality check for hardcore fans. This program was not made to keep you happy. It was made to make money. Thats a simple commercial reality that a lot of people fail to grasp. If it looked like this show would not have made money, it would not have been produced, or it would have been made with a much lower budget. Simple as that. My best advice to people who don't like it, don't watch it. Taksraven And BTW, why do people get so hung up about portrayals of sex and sexuality in SF? People carry on like it has no place in it.

Some more G Gundam gems. I love this one..... Now....just....don't ......lean.......backwards..........AAARRRGHHHHHH!! Actually, how does the stupid thing walk without stabbing itself with those spikes on its feet? Christ!! Clubace Gundam. I'm lost for words.... I have got a big eye. OLE! Taksraven

Well, it makes me giggle. I like the way its standing there with clenched fists, like it is reluctant to be wearing the fish suit. Really funny. It ties with the windmill one for funniest mecha rather than ugliest. Taksraven

How did M+ and MII get released in the US and Australia, did they slip through the HG net? (I know its probably been asked and answered before but I have better things to do than read through 1600+ posts. Taksraven

True, but its kind of annoying how Gerry Anderson gets all the credit. He always had a great team working around him and he must have been quite skillful to assemble them. Sylvia probably deserves some credit too. I think that he had only one major failure and that was 1999 season Two. What a godawful mess that was. And the New Captain Scarlet was brilliant. Pity they didn't make more. Taksraven
