Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time

Exactly right, as I have already said, at the time it came out there was NOTHING else to compare to it in the SF/adventure genre. At least, in Western entertainment. Taksraven -

A good description, especially with the Force really just being 'magic'. Taksraven -
Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time

New Hope was alright (the attack on the Death Star was brilliant), Empire was fantastically dark and enjoyable and Jedi was a lot better than a lot of people seem to want to think (sure Ewoks sucked and a few other parts were not as great as they could have been). Sure, the original trilogy was not perfect or very original and even though my tastes have broadened and matured I can still hear the 5-year old part of my spirit reminding me that at the time, there was NOTHING to compare to it. Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time

Point #1. Starship Troopers was actually a good film. Anything about it that was a bit schlocky was intentional so I am willing to forgive. Might not be the best book-film adaptation but I doubt its the worst either. Point #2. Is this place just a refugee detention centre for Robotech.com? Point #3. Love the avatar, but everybody knows that Minsc (and Boo) were the best. B)) Taksraven -
Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
taksraven replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I dunno why people are always picking on B-movies such as Plan 9 as the worst film ever. I think that big budget fiascoes are much worse than no-budget schlock. An excellent comparison would be "Plan 9 from Outer Space" Vs. "Waterworld". Now, Plan 9 is the film that a *lot* of people love to put at the top of their list of worse films and its a very easy target. A z-grade sci-fi pic with an incomprehensible plot, poor acting and really bad special effects. Sure, its not a great film, but with a budget of only $60,000 however, its not worth getting too worked up about. Waterworld, however with a budget of 175 million dollars is a huge steaming and expensive pile of shite!! I'll say that again 175 MILLION DOLLARS. Thats $175,000,000 And what do we get for that? A really poor pisstake of Mad Max with some really hideous acting and a very daft plotline. By those sort of definitions, I would easily consider Waterworld to be one of the worst films made. The other sort of film I hate are the "I would like to thank the Academy" pieces of shite. Films that everybody raves about that win ACADEMY AWARDS but are in fact absolute garbage. The English Patient, Titanic and Forrest Gump all had scripts that could have been written by five-year olds with crayons and yet people LOVED that crap and they won best picture. Anyway, rant over, for now.... -

Exactly the point I made somewhere here over the last few months. Last year I had the opportunity to rewatch Star Trek: The Next Generation in its entirety and I found that I was enjoying it much more as a 30-something than I did watching it back when I was 20-something. And it was things like witty scripts and good characterisation that I was enjoying a lot more. I think that its party because as you say, as more of an adult, I now prefer more artistic and character-driven stories compared to when I was in my 20's. Its also because now I am in a demographic that ST:TNG was more intentionally targetting as well. It hasn't really been enough to improve my overall opinion of the series though because it still has a lot of weaknesses. Another example of the same sort of thing is the old 2001/Star Wars comparison. Couldn't stand 2001 when I was younger, now I appreciate it for the masterpiece that it is, while my opinion of Star Wars is no longer as high. (Some of that is probably due to the release of the prequel trilogy though, ugh.) Taksraven (point me to the nursing home, sonny......)

But there is only one way in which you should listen to this Kasem classic.........U2 by Negativland. I love this song. Do we money know of money any money reasons money why they money could not use money his likeness? I hear its usually down to money. Taksmoneyraven -
I think that its more likely that Mr Maguire is looking for a tax write-off for some of his money. The conduct that you are describing here is really general human nature. HG is no worse than a lot of other companies such as Disney, Macdonalds, Coca Cola etc which routinely "re-interpret" facts and events to suit themselves and their shareholders. People do the same thing as well. I don't think that there is anybody who does not do this sort of stuff. (bury info that does not show them in a positive light and re-interpret facts to suit themselves I mean) Taksraven

Note to the makers of these new episodes. Since it is RD it should be made with the international market in mind, BUT, many of us living outside Britain do not get or care about bloody CORRIE! The Corrie stuff annoyed me more than the Blade Runner stuff. Taksraven

Any money "invested" with HG could be considered money laundering. Taksraven

Nah, I can't see copyright laws being *that* easy to get around. Look at this little example..... James Cameron once said that what inspired him to make The Terminator were two episodes from the 1960s television science fiction series The Outer Limits - "Soldier" and "Demon with the Glass Hand", both written by science-fiction author Harlan Ellison. When the author threatened a lawsuit, Terminator production company Hemdale and distributor Orion Pictures gave veteran fantasy writer Harlan Ellison an "acknowledgement to the works of" credit on video and cable releases of The Terminator as well as a cash settlement after he threatened to sue for plagiarism of the two The Outer Limits episodes and the Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever". Thanks to wikipedia. I think even with different characters and mech designs, they would still have to start from scratch with the storyline, otherwise it would probably end up in court..... I take it that you also mean a new script for the "Macross Saga" as well, but they would have to be really careful otherwise they would *still* face the prospect of legal action against them. Taksraven

They should have purchased the rights to Gobots. Taksraven

It would have been ok for one season, but they dragged it out for at least three, didn't they. The lack of Holly in a new show was a distinct weakness, as well as the new eyecandy (can't even remember her name). I think Cat had more lines in the first new episode than he did for the entire original run of the series. (always a criminally underused character) Taksraven

I would describe the new show as a shambles, but an entertaining shambles. Then again, that's what Red Dwarf always was. Some people really look at past seasons of this show through rose-coloured glasses. Taksraven

When did you first realise how cool Macross is??
taksraven replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeah, a lot of kids back in the 80's didn't even get to see Robotech because they were working hard in the coal mines. :P Taksraven -
I think that they both (live action and animated) look pretty good. Either way its a huge tragedy that this never went anywhere beyond an advertisment. But at least we enjoyed some new Gatchaman coolness for a few seconds. (If only the Gatchaman OAV had been as good as this) Taksraven

This is the thing that a lot of die-hard RT fans as well as HG people probably can't get their head around. Put simply, Macross is THE strongest part of the RT cobbled-together saga. As interesting as they were, both Southern Cross and Mospeada were nowhere near as good. (Sorry to the fans of both of those productions) And it wasn't just the story of Macross that made it unique, it was the designs as well. I am sure that there are RT fans who believe that if they could replace the Macross designs, at least, and end the copyright issues with the Japanese, that the saga would be perfect. What other motivation could there be behind fan-projects like this..... http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...obotech+genesis And, as everybody knows, this mentality is going to cause them huge problems with a LAM for RT.
