I would say "Life imitating art" rather than ironic. My first reaction when I heard the news was "no way, bullshiit!". I can see how some people think this is a hoax. Nasty way to go, RIP.

Man of Steel - Superman movie has a director
taksraven replied to Mr March's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Most of it is just frikking nerd nitpicking though, hardly much basis for valid criticisms. I put most of these in the category of "If you can do better, why aren't you a Hollywood director instead of just sitting in ya mums basement making *this* stuff. The Prometheus "Honest trailer" was pretty valid though.....- 442 replies

It's an interesting question and one with no easy answer. I think that the Desslar in 2199 did things that the Desslar in the original series would *never* have done, especially using the wave motion gun to try to destroy the Yamato even though the same shot would have destroyed Gamilon as well. I think that the original Desslar was much more of a patriot while the new one seems much more self centered. Especially with his final declaration " *I* am at war". Not the rest of his race, seemingly, just him. I guess it just depends on how any new adventures, whether they be movies or TV series, pan out. The Gamilon Empire is certainly in better condition at the end of 2199 (although certainly in disarray) as opposed to the original series where it was pretty much wiped out singlehandedly by the Yamato. I am certain that it will still be swept aside by the Comet Empire and that will be interesting to see. How Desslar plays into it, I am really not game enough to guess. He definitely will be back though, you can see the bridge of his flagship being blasted away from the ship intact as the rest of it blows up.

FYI, the "12 regenerations for a Time Lord" rule was first set out in "The Deadly Assassin" in 1976. The Master had used up his 12 regenerations and was seeking to give himself a new set of regenerations by harnessing the powers of the Eye of Harmony (which was located in the Gallifrey capital at that time, NOT in the Tardis). That plan failed. When the Master appeared next in "Keeper of the Traken" he was still seeking to regenerate his decayed body. At the end of the story he "body snatches" a new body from the Traken "Tremas" (anagram of Master, geddit) which is another way that Time Lords can regenerate. I think when the Master returned in the new series it was explained that the Time Lords had revived him and given him a new set of regenerations so he would fight for them in the Time War. I am not even going to try to figure out what was going on with the Master and his body in the 1996 Telemovie. LOL.

Thor: The Dark World, in theaters Nov. 8, 2013
taksraven replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, it is a great little read and it does identify a lot of the problems that Marvel is experiencing with its villains at the moment. What is more difficult, of course, is suggesting possible solutions. Personally, I think the problem that Marvel is coming up against (and DC has had the problem as well), is that what can look good with villains in the comics might not translate to the screen so well. Rather than just singular villains fighting the hero's, as it is in the comic books quite often, I think that the heros need to be up against larger forces. They kind of did it in Avengers but they didn't get it right, with Loki's essentially faceless army being just cannon fodder. They did a similar thing in Thor 2 but came up against the same problems. I dunno for sure, but it is certain that they need to think long and hard about villains in the future, of course.....- 117 replies

Sharp witty dialogue, good action, interesting concepts. Won't call it a classic, but it is pretty good. It's on TV here right now. Has stood the test of time pretty well too.

They should reverse the Marvel model. Introduce your heros in the one film, then they can go off and do their own films. Who says they have to play it Marvels way?
