Yes, but Jedi robes also expose one's uber dorkness to the world. It's much easier hiding behind a Stormtrooper helmet. 398600 Heheh, touche!
-
That's alot of ocean to travel for a broken flight surface. Weird...
-
Though the Jedi get alot of screentime on the movies, the Jedi characters frequently the focus of the story, what's cool is that there are more costumers (right term?) that suit up as a Stormtrooper or similiar Imperial trooper when it comes to Star Wars. It makes even more of a big deal when you consider dressing up as a Jedi would be far easier and alot more comfortable. Robes, boots, lightsaber hilt, ta-daa!

I agree. Admittedly though, we pay them to be in movies, not spout about religion, politics, or anything else (that said, I rarely notice when an actor/actress steps up and says something not movie-related. I just ignore it) 397943 I bear no ill-will to Tom Cruise. Yes, in the past couple years, I've noticed him to be a bit... odd. And coming from a guy like me, that means alot I understand stars getting themselves into the news, interviews, talk shows, etc., in efforts of a publicity blitz to promote their works. That's fine. But Cruise and all his baggage has been the subject of way to much talk and news. I wouldn't be surprised if people like myself just got sick of seeing him on any sort of screen (TV or Silver).

Any problems he has is probably from overexposure. Him and his new wife are subjects of waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy too much s**t.

Most Ridiculous Amount Of Money You Have Spent
Warmaker replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It is a fixed, static, display model. It's not resin or ceramic, since the thing actually has quite a bit of weight to it also. Probably die cast mostly. Master Replicas AT-AT @ StarWarsShop If you are intent on getting one, be wary... some places are selling them now for $1.5k U.S. It seems the average is just a tad bit higher than when it initially came out. At first, it was $1k. Now the cheapest is $1.1k. The link above has the dimensions, but I'll put them here anyways: Length 23 inches Width 9 inches Height 21 inches (Hooray for the Imperial Measurement System) These dimensions contradict what the StarWarsShop gives. I got them from elsewhere on the net. I haven't actually pulled out a ruler and measured my AT-AT, either... plus, I'm at work right now It seems Master Replicas put out a "Signature Edition" of the AT-AT. It's posed differently... more "stiff" and boring. But it looks to be built of the same quality. It's also got a snow looking base, complete with Luke's crashed Snowspeeder in front of it. MR is offereing it for $1.3k U.S. You're not going to find any normally produced Imperator Class Star Destroyers or Executor Class Star Destroyers worthy of a $1k cost. You'll find some old model kits, namely ERTL / MPC, and those are horribly inaccurate. But that is if you're into accuracy, and since most modellers want accuracy, this may be a concern. They're also notorious for bad fitting and gaps. Scale Solutions Resin Kits ... Has some Resin Kits of some familiar starships. On this section, they're mostly Star Wars, and one familiar sight to Macross fans. They have an Executor, but I'm not sure of the quality of their line. Never ordered from them. I found this via a little Google search. -
Most Ridiculous Amount Of Money You Have Spent
Warmaker replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Most amount of money I spent on a collectible is... $1k U.S. On what? The Master Replicas AT-AT. Ever since I was a kid and saw the AT-AT in ESB, I always wanted a toy of that. My family couldn't afford it, since we were newly immigrated from the Philippines and things were quite tight back then (damn lucky to even see the movie). Years later, and at about 2003 or 2004, there was a 1/35 scale resin kit of the AT-AT by SMT (sculpted by Alfred Wong, IIRC). It was being sold for $200-300 U.S. I was getting ready to order one, but SMT got slapped by Lucasfilm to cease and desist ALL their Star Wars resin kits. SMT had a bunch of Star Wars kits other than that 1/35 AT-AT. They had 1/48 scale resin kits of the X-Wing, Snowspeeder, Y-Wing, A-Wing, B-Wing, TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor, Vader's TIE Advanced, TIE Avenger, and the TIE Defender. I bought their TIE Avenger and TIE Defender kits before they were forced to stop. I just missed out on their last wave of the AT-AT resin kits. Later on, I saw the reason why they had to stop. Master Replicas started promoting their AT-AT. Well, I got my blasted AT-AT! It looks great... good weathering, details, display case and everything. But I promised myself never to blow this kind of money on a collectible ever again. Holy jeez... -

Macross Ii Anime Film Awesome! *heavy Spoilers!*
Warmaker replied to retroborg's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well considering the story was obviously truncated, I can see how you'd conclude that. However, Basara was multiple time more annoying that Hibiki ever was...but I digress... 396577 Please, sir! Do not take my comments that I like Macross 7. Quite the opposite. I absolutely hate Macross 7. It's been a while since I posted regularly at MW's forums, but I used to get into "Let's Kick The Dead Horse On how Macross 7 Sucks Thread" all the time. I love most things Macross but Macross 7 has some really weird **** in it. This thread was on Macross II and I put out some opinions on it. BTW, I do have the "This is animation" book for Macross II. I like it namely due to Mikimoto's artwork. -
Macross Ii Anime Film Awesome! *heavy Spoilers!*
Warmaker replied to retroborg's topic in Movies and TV Series
There were only 3 things that I liked from Macross II. 1. The Valkyrie II 2. The UN Spacy Uniform 3. Sylvie Gina That's it. Hibiki was annoying to no end. For me, almost as annoying as Star Wars Ewoks. The "romance" was ridiculous, especially at the end between Sylvie and Hibiki. No, not ridiculous... Space Balls Ludicrous! But the most heinous crime was the destruction of the SDF. -

I'll give the upcoming Superman movie the benefit of the doubt. The Batman movie franchise had been so thoroughly killed that I thought it near impossible to bring it back to glory. Then Batman Begins did it. The Superman movies after 2 weren't great. The first one was awesome... and by "awesome" I mean, "totally cool." There's one thing from Superman 2 that still remains in my mind: General Zod: "Come to me, son of Jor-El, kneel before Zod!"

I haven't heard of any bonafide air to air combat in a while. OIF? Wasn't much of that since the Iraqi Air Force never really recovered from Desert Shield / Storm. They also never even tried to contest the air with any serious attempts. Even in Desert Shield / Storm, they didn't try that hard to contest the skies with their aircraft. The Coalition air forces simply were too good and overpowering. Anytime they tried to come up, they got swatted down real hard, and usually at BVR. The US military had been allowing as many of its tactical aircraft to be able to go air to ground for a while now. The F-15E had been doing that for a while. The F-14D also from the 90s. The F-16 and F/A-18 have played this ball game for a long time also. Of all these fighters though, the F-14 joined the party late. I think they got themselves in a bad situation by being too focused in only fleet air defense. When conflicts of late have shown little air resistance, it kind of puts the focus of priority on the commands that could perform strike sorties.

As for looks go, I still class the regular Hornet higher than the Super E/F/G. Though of course I'm biased a tad bit. I work on Hornet A/B/C/Ds (well, D's only these days). But the most beautiful US jet in my eyes is still the F-14. I've built many models of that jet and drew it tons of times. The regular Hornet and F-15 are tied at 2nd place.
-
Well, the SHornet better be good and we'll also see over time. It's supposed to fulfill the duties of several big name aircraft. We'll see...
-
Firstly, kudos to the Super Bug aircrew! The SHornet isn't exactly a great dogfighter, which makes this even better. As for the F-22 not having a good week? All aircraft, all aircrew, from any Naval / Air Forces around the world with lots of flight hours will have bad moments or bad time periods. There's tons of military aircraft mishaps that civillians don't know about. I know the USAF pilots probably weren't too keen on losing this fight, esp with pics being put out on the 'net. But I'd rather see them get "schooled" by very well trained friendlies on a training exercise than in a future real world situation.

F/A-18? I highly doubt it. Right when you hit the control to fold the wings, the ailerons are streamlined before the outboard wings raise.

Great Naval Commanders And Notable Engagements
Warmaker replied to kalvasflam's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
From my knowledge of military history, Naval warfare is one of my weakest. But from what I know of, I will put in Adm. Nimitz of the U.S.Navy from WWII. Basically placed in charge of the US Pacific Fleet after the disaster at Pearl Harbor. He led the USN all the way until Japan's surrender. Good enough that the USN named their greatest Aircraft Carrier class after him, the Nimitz Class CVN's. -
What I love about South Park is that they're equal opportunity. EVERYONE gets ripped by the show!

The 90's Batman cartoons were awesom s**t!

Oh, if you guys, by some chance find a download of that video somewhere, please tell me

Ah, nevermind, someone already posted the same thing I was going to.

"Baby Got Back" - Anime Version Bumped across this. It treads the line a bit for NSFW but it's hilarious! Fan Service all across the board, pretty much.
-
As a Marine Hornet maintainer and after seeing the USAF go for the -22 variants as well as the JSF... is the USN getting a new fighter? Or is everything banking on the success of the JSF? From what I've gathered, the USN is getting: The JSF Super Hornets (E/F/G-Growler) - I always saw this as an "interim" fix. Side story: I recall from a couple years ago, when the Super Hornet was just hitting the Fleet, a Sailor buddy of mine. He was an Electrician for the weary E/A-6B Prowlers and he had alot of pride in them despite the intensive maintenance actions. I was looking at some Naval Aviation news periodicals and I told him, "Hey, they're going to replace your beloved Prowlers with Super Hornets." He goes, "No f*****g way, man. No jet in the US does the job of the Prowlers anymore! No one carries our pods either!" I go, "Oh really?" and flip the magazine over to show a promotional picture of an E/A-18G Growler, flying with what looked like the same pods the Prowler did. He replied with, "Hey... that's B*****it, man!"
-
Hmm, even the gun only exposes itself momentarily. I knew it was the case for other ordnance (missiles, bombes, etc.) but I didn't think it'd be the same for the gun. Anyways, I hope the jet's as successful as the F-15 (or surpass its performance) which it replaces. Those are big shoes to fill. I heard the Japanese MIGHT be interested in their own version of the F-22, in the same vein as the F-15J.
