Super Star Destroyer Kits/Toys/Etc
Warmaker replied to Retracting Head Ter Ter's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just so you know: There never had been any Officially made Star Destroyer model kits that are even 12 inches or longer put out for the general public to buy. If the ISD you're speaking of is really 3 feet long, then it was a fan made kit. Resin is rarely used for something that large... it'd be heavy and expensive. In all likeliness, it was scratchbuilt. Meaning, someone (the guy you saw or someone else) had to get the materials together, measure the cuts, cut them, piece them together, and find all kinds of whatever materials. I can't comment if the model you saw is worth $300. I don't see pictures of it, especially if it really is from the 80s. The Ertl kits from the 80s are inaccurate and less than 12 inches long. They're fine for the casual Star Wars fan, but as you may or may not know, there's a very good number of model builders who want highly accurate kits of any subject they build. Jets, tanks, cars, ships, and even sci-fi related subjects. There are guys that go on a commission to scratchbuild 24 inch long Star Destroyers with painstaking accuracy (even including lights). But the cost isn't cheap. I have one and put it in a nice display. I simply don't have that level of model building ability You can see some of them over at Starshipmodeller.com's forums, under the Star Wars section. Star Trek also has a healthier sized model forum there, too. I'd post a direct link but I'm at work (killing productivity) and the place won't display right on this computer. -

There's very few EU books worth reading since as someone said before, alot of the writers get carried away, especially with the Force. Heck, lately with the newer books, there's TIME TRAVEL! With power, ability, and technology, the movies were more subtle than the "POW! BAM! ZOOM! BOOM!" of the books, which tend to go overboard. As for models of the SSD, I have yet to find any official releases. Even the regular Star Destroyer hasn't had a new kit in decades. The old ones are inaccurate (AMT/ERTL/MPC). There's some fan made kits (resin) of the ISD but you have to hunt for them. Lucasfilm has been cracking down on fan-made kits of all things Star Wars. SMT used to have a resin kit lineup of all kinds of Star Wars vehicles: T-47 Snowspeeder, Alphabet Fighters, the various movie TIEs plus TIE Avenger & TIE Defender, all at 1/48 scale. I bought the TIE Defender & TIE Avenger kits. They even had a resin 1/35 AT-AT. They all were pretty d**n accurate and were done quite nicely. But Lucasfilm brought the law down and forced SMT to discontinue their Star Wars line. Pretty sad, since you can't find a decent kit of most of these items. That, or they're overpriced while lacking on the accuracy. -
This thing's going to be worse than AVP

Bond movies were NEVER about Bodycounts. Now, movies like Rambo and such were. Perhaps you saw the wrong movie?

RIAA wants to shut down the Internet
Warmaker replied to Ishimaru's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Maybe if the industry had put out decent s**t and adjusted to the times instead of acting like the Inquisition, maybe they never would have had these problems. If these companies suddenly went out of business, I wouldn't shed a tear. Well, I'm lying. I'd be shedding a tear from my laughter. -

You couldn't have. I finished it longer ago. But it isn't the first time someone tried to take the credit away. I mean, Al Gore tried to do the same thing! Invented the Internet... pfft! -
For Macross Plus, I have these Pro's & Con's CON'S - Characters I didn't care much for. - Character Designs I didn't care much for. - So-So Story - Blazing through Earth's defenses like a hot knife through butter (That's Mike Tyson "Ludicrous") PRO'S + Great Valkyrie Designs + Mecha Combat M+ has serious deficiencies for me, but the Valk designs and combat offset it enough where the show is good enough.

I've seen so little of the VF-4 that I care very little about it.

Flashback 2012 and 20th Anniversary DVD
Warmaker replied to The6ftTallAZN's topic in Movies and TV Series
I got the **BOOTLEG** DVD and FB2012 is short. It's mostly a musical so IMO, getting by with or without subtitling isn't that big of a deal. Since FB2012 is short, the animation quality's quite niiice. -

The Worst Anime You've Watched Recently

The animation for most of it was just fine. But as the show progressed, WOW, it was quite bad. -

It'd be nice, but the likeliness of that occuring is remote. IMO, I have a better chance of going home tonight after work, open my bedroom door, and see a naked Jessica Alba & Sophia Bush who've been waiting all day for me, than seeing the English subtitling occur with official Macross stuff. Daydreams for a few seconds Anyways, what would be entertaining is to see horribly English subtitled Macross stuff. Along the lines of the notorious, badly translated Star Wars Episode III: "Backstroke of the West." -

It's the same reason the groups you listed made it big. It's an evil ploy. I still recall when I was in Junior High a big boy band in the late 80's, who's group name I thankfully can't recall right now since it is traumatic. I recall a bunch of the girls liking them. Naturally, like all the other guys, we gave them s**t for liking them. The girls of course reply that we're just jealous. Ok. Cool. But now, years later, when you bring up this same group and how in all likeliness these women used to like them, they either: * Deny liking them at all. * Are in total shock that they used adore them at one point in their lives. I was going to enter "Big Wars" but that was from years ago. My goodness, that was total trash. P.S. - Please, let us not mention Gundam Wing anymore. .... Oh dang, I said it myself. P.S.S. - Okay, I just remembered the name of "that group" from the late 80's. I will not say it to prevent traumatic memories. -

Yep. As for the bootleg DVDs and such, I have no choice but to settle for bootlegs. There's no official US releases and I don't forsee this happening in this decade TBH. There's not much choice out there. The majority of the official stuff is regioned for Japan and no subtitling in English. It doesn't do me an ounce of good to buy a player to play all sorts of region DVDs, buy the official Japanese DVDs, when I can't understand what's being said since there are no English subtitling. -
I checked the Soundtrack listing at Amazon. To my surprise, you're right, Cornell's title song for Casino Royale isn't there. Title songs are usually the first thing on soundtracks but the first thing there is the Africa Rundown track. Weird

Yeah, but it doesn't hold the same feel as the 'ol days... the Cold War days!

Finally saw it Friday also. I enjoyed it alot. It's the first Bond movie I've bothered to see in theaters in many years. The last one was when my Dad took me as a kid to see one of the Roger Moore Bond films... the one with the ski pursuits and he does that spin move with the gun

It used to that bugs and incompatability issues were solely a problem for PC's / Computer games. Now it even encompasses Consoles

Macross II and Macross VII are very low for me on the goodness of all things Macross. My very short Pro's & Con's: Macross VII + More Max & Millia - Basara -- Musical Instrument Controlled Valks - Basara * I refuse to listen to Basara's song * * I enjoyed the more military atmosphere of the original Macross. I didn't feel that with VII * - Basara Macross II + Sylvie Gina + I sort liked the Valks in II, but not the Metal Siren - Hibiki's annoying, but not Basara annoying - Basic story was hokey -- Hibiki and Sylvie's relationship coming about in a highly abrupt, "WTF," out of nowhere fashion + The last good thing out of Mac II is the "This is Animation" book I can go on about Mac VII, but I'll keep it polite. With that in mind, Mac II wasn't exactly adequate either.
