Oh well. I'm just saying that there's more to fighting game controls than the same 2 systems that are used by practically every one of the genre. There's got to be more variety to fighting games than down, down-forward, forward + A -

Just as the joystick and __ number of buttons makes sense for human movement and fighting in Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, Tekken, Samurai Shodown, etc.? Movement is movement. Attacks are attacks. Executing some sort of attack does NOT require a Shoryuken-like joystick movement to perform. As for Star Wars, it can work for the various characters, but right away it would be absolutely perfect for the flyable ones like both Fetts and Commander Cody. The image of Jango Fett using his jetpack to dash backwards to put distance between himself and a Jedi while blasting away fits perfectly. -

Star Wars in a fighting game feels stale, especially if done traditionally (3d or 2d). The reason being is that the weapons the main characters use can be widely different... and YES, there is more to Star Wars combat than lightsabers and the force. So, here's a crazy Star Wars Fanboi's, rather random idea. How about Star Wars but with a sort of Virtual On scope and control? It makes sense since you do have a few flight capable characters, namely Jango & Boba Fett and some character types that flew. The Virtual On controls would be perfect for them. Jedi Characters don't fly but they can get a few perks, depending on the character. You could include a wide range of characters, Jedi, Non-Jedi, even troopers and droids to fill out the roster. Really, a Star Wars "fighting game" that cares to include multiple eras for a big free for all has a huge possible range of characters. Just as cool as the possible characters are the stages. Streets of Mos Eisley, Kamino, etc., etc. -

The bonus characters just don't sit right to be mixed in with this game. Spawn? Darth Vader? Yoda? Whatever crack the developers and marketing guys were using must have been some good s**t. I'll second Samurai Shodown would have been a far better fit, but more along the lines of SNK vs Capcom games. SS characters used weapons, so it's not a far stretch for SC. -
Terminator Salvation, colon, Really Long Movie Title
Warmaker replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't mind the addition of more Terminator movies or shows. I treat it just like Star Wars or Star Trek. There can be more as long as: 1) It's done right. 2) Do not screw with continuity / canon / past shows I'm willing to give the new Terminator stuff a chance after seeing any new tidbits / previews. But, IMO, they could really show the future conflict more. How many Terminators have to be sent back in time before it gets ridiculously overdone? Showing the future warfare would bring alot of freedom for creativity. We all know the eventual result, but what was done to reach that point is open for us to see. * Post apocalyptic world, mankind on the edge of extinction - CHECK * Machines now in charge, exterminating humans - CHECK * Show the array of Machines and especially the Terminator / Infiltrator series - CHECK * Show more cool future weapons - CHECK * A meager, but growing resistance against the Machines - CHECK The future war is almost like a blank check for any stories, just as long as the end is supposed to be the way it is. There's tons of stuff that can be done before that end. -
If one was single with very little baggage for today, I can see it happening. Maybe 100 years. But when you wake up, you're going to be out of place, way behind on the curve as far as how things go. Think about it. If someone popped in at 2008 and came from 1808, how far out of place and lost do you think that individual would be? It'll be worse than Duck Dodgers In The 24th-1/2 Century.

You remember the PS game from the 90s called Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi? It was the only Star Wars fighter ever made. -

I can foresee some very gruesome "Death By Terminator" scenes if done by animation -
A Harem anime with... Giant mecha, big, futuristic guns (mecha and handheld), nudity, sex, fanservice, sex, big explosions, big battles... and NINJAS!11!1!!!!

Hmm... we are one step closer to a real life "Macross Missile Massacre"

Indeed, I also recall this when I played Warsong on my Genesis (US adaptation of a Langrisser game). When the student finally knows enough, or needs one final lesson, the Sempai's days are numbered.

You're not going to be able to get Jessica Alba. She's gonna be pregnant real soon or treating that Hepatitis Say... if Hollywood won't do Aliens right, how would anime do? Colonial Marines, Aliens, and all that? Also, as someone mentioned Starship Troopers, that's right up the anime style. The whole powered armored infantry thing fits the bill with all the mecha-related anime that's been done.

... and after the strafing run, out the back ramp falls out a Daisy Cutter. Or some nifty little FAE bomb(s). Sounds better and better now.

That's just how it is: Now that you really want something, it just won't be there. All the other times when you didn't want it, it was there! -
Lots of random ideas from me. Some not too good. - A Macross anime? Set during Space War I, showing the experience of a UN Spacy VF-1 unit based on Earth. It starts upon the SDF's return to Earth and the conflict it brings with it back to Earth. It'll go a bit into the Reconstruction Era and the troubles associated with it. - Romance of the Three Kingdoms, anime style? May or may not focus on one of the main sides, but it may be simpler to choose to see things from 1 of them... maybe Liu Bei, his sworn brothers, etc.? - An idea from the late 90s "The Cockpit." A series of seperate stories set during WWII, from different people on different sides of the war. They can be a few episodes or a long arc. A German Tiger tank crew's experience on the Eastern & Western Fronts, with high point glimpses into Kursk and into the Western Front (D-Day related operations). Russian soldiers at the disastrous, early phases of the war. A British soldier awaiting on Crete and the eventual fallback into North Africa and the major campaigns about to erupt there. The Allied Airborne experience from D-Day and into the failure of Operation Market Garden. A US Marine's life attached to the 1st Marine Division, about to be a participant in the last major campaign of the war: Okinawa. A Luftwaffe pilot, flying since before the war and has survived so far into 1944; having become a high scoring ace, has survived to see the decline of the Luftwaffe against the powerful Allied Air Forces as the war drags on. Follow the experience of a Japanese soldier's unit during the miserable campaign on Guadalcanal. Good endings to each arc are definitely not a guarantee.

AC-17's? I didn't know the USAF had so many C-17's that they could afford to give up valuable transports for attack roles

Just to tack on a bit more about MMOs and subscription fees. I used to really abhor paying $15/month for a game I already bought. But now, it varies and it really depends on the game and its developers. As Radd says, any decent MMO's developers will continously over the game's life, fix bugs, tweak gameplay. Some will add every now and then new game zones / regions / maps / NPCs / quests... new content... without buying an expansion pack. Lord of the Rings: Online for instance, has done exactly that without even putting out it's first expansion packs, which usually cost $29 for most PC games. Several whole new, fully explorable regions with it's own NPCs, quests, loot, etc. With MMO expansion packs again, just like any PC game expansion pack, they usually add much, much more onto the core game than what normal releases do. As for the subscription fees, a few MMOs out there somehow get around to not requiring them, despite the constant work and upkeep to run an MMO. Guild Wars for instance has, last I checked, 5 million players, but doesn't require a monthly fee to play. The only fees you may be interested in playing are the "Chapters" / Expansion Packs they put out every 4-6 months. As I recall, there's 4 total packs for the game... the core game and 3 expansions. The developers of Guild Wars however don't add major content with their regular patches, but saves them for the expansions. If you're curious about MMOs but are leery about forking over money every month to play a game, you've got 3 options. 1) Try out one of the non-subscription MMOs like Guild Wars. 2) Read around on various forums on the state of a game, and not just official forums. Ask questions about it, especially on "neutral" forums that aren't centrally about it, i.e. ask a MW'er what they think about this game. 3) A bunch of MMOs have a very cheap or free trial offer. Usually they go about as 14-day trials, if you're still interested in it, then go forth with the subscriptions afterwards. If the game turns out much later that it no longer is to your liking, canx the subscription. The same thing happened to me in Star Wars: Galaxies. I played for 2 years with a great, diverse, large player population until the developers decided to make changes for the worse (long story in itself). So in short, I quit. As far as the types of players you come across in MMOs, it varies just like any other game. You got your friendly people, you got your a**hats, you got your great team-players, you got guys who "want to play single-player on a multi-player game," etc. -
To be honest, I was very surprised Australia even decided to get Super Bugs as an interim aircraft when the JSF is supposed to come along sometime (with or without delays). It wouldn't surprise me either if the gov't decides to axe the SBug purchase.

Your chances of hitting a target with your missiles is inversely proportional with the amount of said missiles you fire.

The 2 seater stuff needs to be redone. The DYRL and "Hero" VFs have been done to death in 1/60 and most especially in 1/48. -
If you find yourself flying a brown & white VF-1... are you a religous person? Because you're about to meet your maker. Kakizaki, please stand up. Unless your name is Max Jenius, Quadluun Rau's are very, very bad for a Valk pilot's health. Piloting a Regult is bad for one's health. Being the Captain of a major UN Spacy ship has 3 major perks: You're surrounded with women. You get to wear big peaked caps. You get to brood in the Captain's Chair and be cool at the same time. If you're flying a VF-1J, you will not die. KO'd of action, maybe. Damaged quite a bit, maybe. But you will not die in combat. No VF-1J has ever been shown onscreen to be destroyed with its pilot. VF-1A? Bad luck. VF-1S? Poor Roy. Yes, this applies to SDF:M and DYRL?.
