Ah, this franchise. I only got into it with the official blu-ray releases this past year in the U.S.. I had seen some images of this show on the internet but never really paid it much attention. I saw the blu-ray and did a rare impulse buy and hoped it turned out well. It turned out to be a great show, very satisfied with it so far. The setting was okay but the thing I felt the anime conveyed extremely well was the "feel" of the situation that the characters found themselves in. In anime, there is no shortage of shows where characters are off'ed. Attack on Titan is not anymore different in that regard. What the show did best was give the viewer the sense of desperation, loss. Characters have to fling themselves at danger and none are completely safe. There have been some very gut-wrenching events. I can't recall any other anime that I've viewed giving that same sense of desperation. As for the source, the original artist, I actually had been catching up with the manga as best I could. His artwork is honestly on the very rough side but his story is top notch. The guy is a master in twisting that dagger into you For the anime side of the franchise, I'm just disappointed how slowly they've pushed this. My viewing of anime has gone down considerably in recent years, but I'm glad I was able to catch this franchise.

I've seen those big ass jets many times when I've deployed to the Middle East. Those Russian transports were lifting in cargo when we were in the middle of OIF. I've seen them once when in San Diego International Airport because I was at Boot Camp, which was next door to the airport. I've seen them again over at Moffet Field in the San Francisco Bay Area. Big, big jets and always in that blue and white paint scheme.

Midichlorians? LOL, what about from the 1980's "Caravan of Courage" TV show that came out shortly after ROTJ?

Goddamnit, I love ESB so much. The heroes try what they're supposed to do as "the good guys" and things don't necessarily go right don't go right at all. It is a far cry with the flawless, good guy victory of ANH and ROTJ. The Rebels and the heroes were getting their asses stomped. They lost that round badly but they were not out of the fight. It's a far cry from a lot of shows and movies where we can see, "Okay, these are the main characters and because they are such, are expected to always succeed no matter what." ESB. Still the best of all Star Wars shows. As for Kylo Ren, he's the one I'm more curious to see what happens with his story, more than Rey actually. The things he does makes him a clear cut villain. But I enjoyed his hesitation and reluctance to "Cross That Line," like he's not 100% sold into what he was doing. Personally, I loved the scene with Han and him on that catwalk. For a moment, it really looked like Han was going to pull it off and bring him back.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Warmaker replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Correct. It doesn't have the cone appearance like the studio model did. Speaking of Star Destroyers, I dug up Bandai's Star Wars display that showcased their take on the ISD. They did this to promote them getting the license to do Star Wars kits. Sadly, there has been zero mention from Bandai about this since the display from 2014. I have been waiting a damn long time for some company to make a new ISD kit. Something new with today's technology instead of those ancient Ertl ISD kits from the 80s. Which are STILL the only officially licensed ISD kits ever made. -

@Dobber I have that Disney ISD. Got it for about $15. For what it is, not bad at all. Regarding the repainting, yes, it would need it, and then some. The issue to me is the different materials on the dorsal side of the ship. The hull is mostly done in metal. It is painted, has the scribed in lines and a light wash. The superstructure however is plastic. It isn't painted and the scribed in lines aren't deep, and the wash is much lighter compared to the rest of the ship. Excuse my shitty photography with my phone. It's kind of blurry but the picture still gets off the big contrast between the superstructure and hull. To me, the difference between the hull and superstructure is pretty substantial. It didn't bother me at first but the more I looked at it, the more glaring it became. But again, it's a fairly cheap buy. I gave it slack because the warships of Star Wars are underrepresented in merchandise. You can find a million Stormtrooper, Clone trooper figures, a bunch of X-Wing/TIE Fighter toys and model kits. But goodness, you want a warship? Good luck! Edit: You are also correct in that the ISD did not have that brace-thingie on the hull. Example is the actual studio model used for the Avenger for filming. -
Well, I'm not a regular on these boards and came back only very recently. Haven't checked the whole thread but a few posts here and there. I'll just dish out my take on TFA. Wall of Text follows.

Warmaker replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Neutral about it. I did adore Homeworld 1 (1999) & 2 (2003) though. Those games pushed space RTS to boundaries where none have tried venturing since. Especially HW1 which was a lot deeper than it's sequel. It surprises me how Relic let that franchise languish into oblivion. HW1 was what put their name on the map as far as game developers go, IMO.- 6831 replies

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2

The funny thing with Star Wars model kits is that capital ships are almost never done as a subject. There have been huge numbers of X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Millenium Falcon kits made but the big, fancy warships are almost never touched. I mean, the last Imperial Star Destroyer kit is from the 1980s! -

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2

1/35 AT-AT is going to be huge and pricey. Now Bandai needs to get off their butts and put out that Star Destroyer they showed off when they first made it known they were doing SW kits. -
Well. I know Macross II gets derided a lot around here (last I was here). But anything new out of Macross II was a longshot in happening, much less a VF-2SS, which I love. Wish the armor came with it, but I'll take 1 victory at a time.

Is this really the direction things have gone? Jedi everywhere still like Order 66 and the Empire never happened? Because if Jedi are indeed everywhere, hiding or not, or I bet, a famed Jedi General suddenly helping lead the Rebels, then what's the point of Luke Skywalker? Yoda: "Luke, when gone am I, last of the Jedi will you be."

I have this game also. I never played Wasteland 1 but I have done the entire Fallout series. I know the guy that made Wasteland 2 happen was part of the first as well as Fallout 1. I am enjoying the game, it's setting. It's a very old school, 1990's RPG compared to what the norm is, and I do appreciate it. I'm having flashbacks from playing Fallout 1 & 2, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Ammo is precious, resources are scant. I'm counting bullets, wondering if I have enough to get back to Ranger Citadel without having to come down to using melee weapons. I am kind of annoyed that Ambush cannot be set until you're already in combat, which kind of defeats the main intent of what setting up an ambush is. So when you begin engagement, you fire the first shot, then next thing you know, the enemy team gets more actions in before your 2nd squad member does anything. Also, it would be nice to know if a terrain feature will provide cover BEFORE going into combat. Side note: I've been on other boards and there seems to be a bit of confusion on what Wasteland 2 is all about. For an old school RPG fan, I get it. However, the promotionals and previews for Wasteland 2 makes heavy mention of Fallout. Which is both correct but also good and bad. Correct in that the guy leading Fallout 1 and Wasteland 2 was the same guy. Good in that both franchises have their shared origins with that same guy. Bad however in that the repeated mention of Fallout with Wasteland brings in a lot of guys with expectations of what Wasteland 2 should be like. Simply put, Fallout fandom is roughly divided into 2 general parts. Old school Fallout 1 & 2 with the turn based, isometric views. Wasteland 2 shared a closer design lineage with these. Then there's the newer fans that came in with Fallout 3 and New Vegas, in the transition with Bethesda and 3D, FPS. The latter is where some of the grumbling is about, which I find kind of amusing. Going into Wasteland 2 expecting a sort of Fallout 3 / New Vegas experience despite all the screenshots of Wasteland 2 looking nothing at all like FO3. Anyways, I am enjoying Wasteland 2. Even on Normal you have to be savvy with your supplies. There's also the locales where the game is telling you, "You may want to come back later" after some leveling and new gear.

Star Destroyer to end all Star Destroyers

Wasn't quite fond of all the things JJ Abrams was doing with rehashing Star Trek (the TOS crew of all things). However, I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt with Star Wars. With how the Prequels were handled (badly, IMO), Star Wars films can't possibly get any worse. I will say this though: Lucas and his boys knew how to promote the movies. I'm curious to see how well these sequels are promoted, esp. with the money of Disney backing it.

I loved this movie as a kid. Also, with the shooting down of the two Zeroes, wouldn't those jets get to have kill markings with the Imperial Japanese flags on the fuselage? -

The Jedi, to include Yoda as their Grand Master of the Jedi Order, were wrong on a whole lot of other things. Yoda and Obi-Wan completely believe that there was no coming back from the Dark Side. Their time with Luke and throughout his training, and up to the time Luke became strongheaded and left Degobah for Cloud City, they insisted there was no redemption. Or rather, it wasn't even brought up, that was the extent of their beliefs. But that same stubborness, belief that Anakin had carried over into Luke. And that stubbornness, and belief in someone was what kept Luke in trying to redeem his father. Cold logic and Jedi Order doctrine would have a Jedi cut ties with and kill immediately someone that has turned. There is no room in the galaxy for these 2 polar opposites. But that Jedi Order got themselves killed from their overconfidence and arrogance in running the galaxy / Republic with the Sith being supposedly destroyed. That their once longtime, implacable foes could never, ever recover. That their enemy was sitting near them, taking with them, smiling at them the entire time at the capital of Coruscant. Anyways, it was Luke's belief in someone, despite everybody and surrounding events telling him the opposite, that we got Anakin Skywalker to return in the end. Even when Luke was in the presence of the Emperor himself, alongside Darth Vader, aboard a gigantic battlestation staffed full of Imperial troops and personnel, with no friends nearby, that he stayed with his course of action to redeem his father.

Availability of a show has been the main thing for me, and of course me leaning to subbed stuff. I've had to rely on fansubs because alot of shows that I'm interested in will never have any sort of chance for an official release here in the USA. Not to mention the traditional habit of companies taking eons to even consider bringing a show over across the Pacific. Add to the fact that the only anime DVDs I was seeing for a long time on shelves was an endless stockpile of Dragonball Z. The selection has gotten better in the last year or two, but still, it's very slim pickings. Personally, I'm old school and I prefer having a hard copy DVD/Blu-Ray of my favorite anime. I have no qualms about having to rely on a download, but hard copies is what I prefer. I've bought tons of official releases, but I've had to download a bunch because they'll never get brought over officially. This is almost a guarantee with an older show. Great example is "Legend of Galactic Heroes." Old, but a grand and awesome show. I've had to download every single thing for this show because there's a snowball's chance in hell of an official release in subbed or even dubbed fashion. Also, it's rather "lovely" that anime in their original Japanese releases pretty much detest the idea of having even English subtitles. It gets even better since it was the Japanese that decided to put Japan and the USA in the same region code with Blu-Ray. I'd LOVE to get that recent SDF Macross Blu-Ray set, but since there's not even English subtitles, well, my old DVD set will soldier on. So, in short, it's fansubbers generally taking care of other anime fans since the industry itself doesn't really want to. I've long been flashing money to buy an official release that I can understand what's going on with via subtitles, but most don't want to take the money.
