Ok, I had a class to attend this morning in addition to an exam, so I couldn't watch this episode earlier. Then there were thunderstorms all day keeping me from using my computer until they finally lifted. I have since gotten through the 6 pages here, downloaded and watched ep. 12. Now the first think I need to say is..... WTF!!?? (I have read everything in this thread now so I know I had to say it). Good Episode. -
Maybe Yamato can make the 27 and they can re-enact the fierce battle between the 25 and 27 that I'm sure will eventually happen in the series (not counting the small struggle in ep. 9). That would be a Yamato/Bandai war there, personified in Macross Frontier valkyries.

Makes me wonder why it does the screen going to black glitch on the PS1 emulator then... maybe some plugin I don't have is causing that problem. I just want it to scroll through so I can save it and then have access to the stuff unlocked for beating the game. And I don't own any version of a PS1 so that is why I am using the emulator option.

This thread has reached its entropy now. Although it will continue on, it will be overshadowed by the Ep. 12 thread that activates tomorrow. What I want to know is... where is Mr March and his special summery of topic ending proportions? -

I'm just going to point out for grammer's sake that that was redundant, the G wasn't necessary as you said cannon only two words later. However one can have fun with redundancy if one knows how to have fun with redundancy. -
Heh true, never noticed the lack of inertial damper mentions. I guess then Macross ships either don't accelerate too fast or they use the same systems that make artificial gravity to counteract inertia (which is a form of theoretical inertial damper) and they just don't talk about it or refer to it as such. Well while that is a possibility and certainly could be how it works, given the way everything is set up on a Valkyrie I think it makes most sense to assume that there is one fusion reactor per main engine and it is in the leg/engine piece. Although I don't really know what an Overtechnology fusion reactor would look like, I assume it isn't tiny so it just seems to me the logical place to put it is in the engine and there is two of those so I guess each have one and they combine to generate the total power of the valkyrie. I don't know where else the reactor/s could be on the valk to tell the truth, so it just makes sense to me to believe one in each leg. Now I can believe the main battery that the fusion reactor powers might be elsewhere (there probably is a battery that the reactor charges that can be used for things on the plane when the engines aren't active, like how a car battery is used almost).

Bandai probably does have plans to make a VF-27, but it might be longer before we see that come to fruition.

Good call MisaForgotten, that makes sense there. Zentradi didn't know what culture was and the Protodeviln are form another dimension so they never heard music before. I didn't say anything about the speakers though, I've been informed that they aren't actually playing sound in space. I just think the whole thing is weird.

Amen brother, we are of the same mindset on this topic.

The 27's transformation is nearly identical to the 25 from what I've seen. The wings are the main difference. -

Really? I was sure you'd try to work Song Energy in there somewhere. -
Like I said, verniers aren't something used extensively, they are for changing attitude. Also even with the reaction engines for space flight they will eventually have to refuel their on board propellant. They just don't talk about it in the show. In atmosphere where on board propellant isn't needed for the main engines, you don't need verniers because your are in an atmosphere and there they fly the traditional way, with wings and manipulation of air flow across them.
-
Not many science fiction show get away with moving at sub-light speeds without ejecting some reaction mass, even Star Trek's impulse drives eject plasma from nuclear fusion reactions (regardless of whether it uses driver coils to lighten the ships mass in the process). Point is only when FTL is brought is does pseudo science come into play the most. I assume the vernier thrusters and any other RCS thrusters use their own fuel supply, and most likely are traditional chemical burning thrusters as they don't use a lot of fuel anyway for moving so it wouldn't hurt. Besides having thermonuclear reactors for each little thruster seems pushing it.

Indeed the back section of the fuselage is still there, just no wings anymore, but they were already messed up anyway. Point is, cockpit was still fine. Plot device Morpheus, plot device. -

Yeah, that one is my 2nd favorite of the movies. However I don't think Berman did bad, I like all Trek. While true a lot of the science in the Berman days is questionable, I like to think of it as science beyond what we understand today, as it is the future. We are likely to make discoveries in the future that change a lot of the ways we think about things now. In any case though you are right, that is the first time I learned of transparent metals of any kind and anytime I think of transparent aluminum I think back to that scene, and of Scotty trying to talk to that old Apple computer. -

I was using transparent metals as a generic term, but I was thinking transparent aluminum as well actually. I never would assume they had an indestructible cockpit canopy though, everything has its limits. Aye Scotty would be proud. -

Ah, I see now! I didn't know you had to watch it for that long, I expected it would be a quicker thing. While I see it happen of the ones you made Mercurial, I don't see Gubaba's avatar doing it at all. -

Well that proves it was glass or weak plastic in the VF-1. Anyone know if this seems to hold true for all Valks or could they be using something stronger? -
I never had problems with mysticism, I just don't like Basara that much for some reason, but the Planet Dance song is good (I don't really have a problem with Fire Bomber as a whole). Of course there is energy in songs and music, it is more or less the way it is used and portrayed in Macross 7 that makes we wonder. I've always said "magic is merely a form of science that has yet to be understood." I would chime in with more lines from Planet Dance... but I don't know any...

I don't know if any of those carrot pics are supposed to be moving but as far as I can see, none of them are animated. All I see is differently colored carrots (I can tell which carrot is Ranka before she would pop out), but nothing moving. I am using Firefox 3, so it would work, I see other animated gifs (like MisaForever's current avatar). -

Going on the talk about the cockpit in Battroid mode, I will point out the the lower fuselage piece in addition to the ECA does a decent job of protecting the cockpit as seen in ep.7 when a yellow Vajra gives him a full power shot right in the back of his battroid and save for vaporizing what was left of his already damaged wings the back piece was still intact and covering the cockpit which we see a few seconds later looks fine and not cracked or anything (until Alto ejects and the whole fighter blows up but that is irrelevant). I've also always wondered if cockpit canopies in Macross still use traditional glass or some type of strengthened plastic or what not. I believe I've seen instances of a cockpit canopy being shattered although I can't think of one off the top of my head (I don't count Gilliam's fighter in ep.1 and 2 since he ejected and I think that blew off part of the canopy as a standard feature and that is why Alto was later flying it sans canopy piece). Something I thought about is whether or not the idea of transparent metals ever came to mind for use as such canopies and whether or not they have been developed in the Macross universe yet or at all. In today's technology transparent metals are still just an idea but one worth a lot of merit. It is hard enough making glass that can withstand the vacuum of space, but one as big as the cockpit canopies we see would have to be some really think glass. If it is some type of strengthened plastic then that might be different though. However if they have developed transparent metals then the canopy could be metal for all we know, just transparent. I have my doubts though that this has actually been done in the Macross universe though, but it makes sense. -
Oh, I see. I was thinking of a different stand than that. The one I was thinking of is made by Yamato and it supports 1/72 through 1/48 scale figures. It is on Toywiz under Robotech>Japanese Macross figures (sad that the site list Macross figures under Robotech...). Or a link to a picture of it from that site: Box pic of Yamato stand with Super VF-1J Max.
