We've never seen it transform, nor is there any art for it that I am aware of, but the name was given in background materials for the Sv-262 (either in the model kits or on the blu-rays).

While amusing it is worth noting the ISC first appeared in Macross Frontier, which aired in 2008. IBO first aired in 2015. So unless the ISC has a mention in any older Gundam shows, especially any predating Frontier, it is more like they got the idea from Kawamori, heh. -
You know the 104 as you refer to it has an actual in-universe designation now right? It's the Sv-154.

I wouldn't go that far even. The VF-25 isn't the poster child of the 5th generation of VFs, it is just the poster child for Frontier fleet's 5th generation VFs. Generation 5 VFs all stem from one design, the YF-24. Also, all emigrant fleet designs are based on a reduced spec version of the 24 design (aka monkey model). This is because the Federal NUNS version of the YF-24, and as we often speculate the VF-24 as a result, is way higher spec. It can be estimated that the YF-29 is the only emigrant fleet design that might get close to matching the Federal YF/VF-24 specs, except that the YF-29 is way to expensive to produce (whereas Federal NUNS has nearly unlimited resources). So if anything, the YF-29 is one of the most representative VFs of the 5th Generation. That being said, specs and power aren't necessarily what make a generation. A lot of it also has to do with design methodology, mission parameters, and perhaps more importantly when the design was created. In many ways the levels of progress are steady and marking designs by generation is just an arbitrary thing people like to do to classify them. YF-24 was seen as a new generation due to having quite a fair bit of capability and versatility beyond the mascots of the 4th generation (the VF-19 and 22), but really it is because it was developed later with newer ideas, technology, needs, and knowledge learned from the former designs. To give another perspective on that, the VF-171 is a newer and more recent design than the VF-19, but both are Gen 4, and no one would say the VF-171 is as good or better than the 19. It exists because it is more versatile and less expensive than the 19, which is what was needed at the time. It also uses more modern technology than the VF-17 used (which itself was originally a Gen 3 design, but the 17D is often considered on par with Gen 4) which is what makes it a Gen 4. Similarly, to the original point, that kind of thing is why the YF-29 and VF-25 are definitively both Generation 5. -

YF-29 is still 5th generation btw, as it is descended from the YF-24 design. There is no in-universe 6th generation VF yet. -

I know the stats say that but on M3 you and March admit it might be a mistake and bothered to call it out. I mean look at it, it has the same hip pieces as the 25. The mold looks like it has the guns too. It seems silly to assume that isn't supposed to be there and that the head guns are projectile in contravention to every other design. I prefer to assume it has the weapons as the 25 does personally. -
If the stabilizers are removable, I haven't tried it, so I am not entirely sure. They look like they could be though. The ordinance container can indeed be detached from the arm. The only real use for this is that it might help in transformation (though it doesn't really get in the way either).

Such a thing is probably inevitable, but likely not before Shinsei or another NUNS funded company has already made something better, or invented the 6th generation fighter or something. Federal NUNS at least is going to stay well ahead of anything for sure. -

The YF-29 also has head cannons in addition to the hip cannons you mentioned, it's gunpod is likely more powerful than the Drakken's is, has a ka-bar in addition to the bayonet, and it's turret is optimized to fire MDE rounds. Counting the Lil Drakkens though is like counting super parts though. To wit, you did mention the YF-29 super parts which basically are just extra missile and fuel containers since it already has the 4 engines. So I'll give you that. Either way, the 29 has more on the subject of weapons though. EDIT: I realized after posting I mentioned the bayonet, which is only applicable to the YF-29B. I typically think of that one though because I own the DX and prefer it to the Alto or other versions. I know the others don't have a bayonet though. The rest of what I said is still valid however. -

Well yeah, but I was going for a simpler answer. I felt it went without saying that YF-29 having 4 engines meant its overall output beat the Sv-262. I didn't mention the YF-30 simply because it was not mentioned in the original question, but true enough that it too is of equal footing with the YF-29 (despite only having two engines) and likely better than the Sv-262. Of course, and this should have been stated before too, engine performance isn't all that matters, just an important part. Armament, maneuverability, defensive systems, etc are all important as well. YF-29 still takes a lot of advantage here over the Sv-262 I think (especially in armament, lol). Sv-262 is no slouch though. -
Well I was going to join in pre-order madness for this but... it was at 11:30am my time and normally I'd have wifi at work I could use to do this.. but of course today or all days the wifi was not working properly and I couldn't load any web pages. I probably wouldn't have gotten it anyway.. but now I'll never know.

In order, from what I know: I highly doubt it tops the YF-29 since the latter has more engines and was purposefully over designed. Plus it has a fold wave system which is better than the 262s reheat system I'd bet. The 262 is better in that it doesn't break the bank to produce en masse. I doubt it is the strongest, even if it matched the 29, I bet it doesn't match a federal YF/VF-24 which has undisclosed stats believed to be way higher than other 5th gen VFs. It can fold by using a fold booster, riding with a ship or traveling through a fold gate produced by Sigur Valens as seen in the show. It does not have any form of fold drive of its own. -

Yes they can. I own the DX YF-29B which is essentially the same mold so the others except for head sculpt, color, and gunpod differences. The outboard engines can do full 360 degree rotations. -
I could do this at work... I've never done preorder madness though... not sure.. but... can't hurt to try maybe. Will I be brave enough? Stay tuned and find out! (I won't cry if I fail though I think)

Considering Mirage's age, the flashback of her playing in Millia's VF-9 likely takes place around or slightly before the time frame of Macross Frontier. Since that bird was last used in the 2020s or so (whenever Macross M3 takes place), Jenius Air could be a museum or refurbishment business for aircraft. I suspect that Mirage being there could imply that it is owned and operated by Miranda Jenius (Mirage's canon mother). Miranda is one of the sisters we know nothing about save the fact that she is Mirage's mother. It is also possible the flashback indicated a family visit too, for all we know Jenius Air could be a location on Macross 7, but I got the feeling it was on a planet (though who knows if 7 finally settled somewhere or not). I'd love to see an OVA dedicated to the greater Jenius family. There is so much potential for all those characters. Even Komillia is underdeveloped, we last saw her on screen as a baby after all! (I know she has some stories in the alternate MacII universe, but I am speaking from a Kawamori-verse angle). Just imagine what story content we could get from her, Theresa, Miracle, more info on Miranda, even more detail on Emilia (how is her singing career going anyway?). Pretty much the only one we don't need more info on is Mylene but even after almost 30 years there could be some interesting details there (finally married Gamlin or not?). I didn't even mention all of them there even! Plus... all the VFs and all the flying you could do with a Jenius-centric story line.. such VF-bait.

It is likely matte, the YF-30 was matte as well, but honestly looked better for it. Felt more like it could be a real aircraft to me. The gloss on the Frontier Valks is nice though, but it also makes them seem less real. I also just kinda realized though, the CGI in Frontier did make all of the mechs seem shiny like that, but in Delta I don't get as much of a shiny vibe from all the VFs.. I think that is intentional, maybe a result if the advances in animation in the 8 years since Frontier first aired.

Yeah I'm a Max fanboy and I pretty much watched the show originally for him. I happened to become a Fire Bomber (and Fukuyama in general) fan as a result of it. I don't hate on Basara too much, I kind of like him... but Seto is also not wrong, he's kind of a dick and wants everyone to see things his way and won't view any situation objectively. I tend to admire characters that are generally disliked but have their reasons. Basara doesn't necessarily deserve to be vindicated as much as he is, but at the same time he also managed to succeed in his quest to get the enemy to listen through his music. You'd think this would go to his head but Basara seems to mellow out a bit after that and in Dynamite 7, while he is definitely still Basara, he seems somehow calmer to me (while still being dickishly pushy on his position and then proven right despite his attitude). Then again, he also proceeds to steal borrow a VF at the end of that, lol. Not an easy character to defend, heheh.

Yeah, the joke is funny, but realistically the average lifespan for humanity must have gotten better. I mean genetic engineering is everywhere and we know Zentradi live longer so they could have reverse engineered how to apply that to humans as well. (Incidentally that is likely Millia's excuse in reply to the original question).

Fold quartz can communicate fold waves but that is the simplest thing they do. It is also the basis of the fold wave system. Basically when certain fold waves are picked up (like from singing cause that's a commodity now in Macross) the philosopher stone fold quartz can resonate and draw energy straight from super dimension space. In the VFs using this the design has that energy used for the rather costly weapons systems. This means when the fold wave system is active the engines are not required to supply as much power to weapons and can use more of their energy for other stuff, typically higher thrust. The reason fold waves from singing are often the most effective is because of the emotional component from the singer and what they are putting into it. Fold waves can transit emotional states as quantifiable energy it seems. It is possible other types of fold waves may work but we haven't seen that. -
The movie version is a recut version that is, as one expects, only about 2 hours. It cuts a lot of scenes, reorders others, and adds a few but overall is more consistently paced and in my opinion better for it. The movie version however was not dubbed into English (I can't speak for other languages such as Italian). I'd recommend looking into it. As for the issues you have, well the entire Macross city was basically under Sharon's mind control at that point so no evacuation order was going to be issued likely. I'm not saying no one was hurt in that battle, but there is a good chance the lack of panic because no one was even aware there was a fight might actually have helped avoid casualties. I'll be honest I always thought they were in some nearby abandoned city area and not in Macross City itself but I cannot cite anything to prove that. It made sense to me because I knew Earth was not, even by that time, heavily re-developed and Macross City was for sure the biggest population area on the planet. That said of course any other city area would not likely be a pre-Space War 1 city because basically they were all glassed. I just assumed there was some unsaid detail about why there was an underpopulated area. If official sources say it was part of Macross City, it was, and we have to assume it is not impossible there was no collateral damage as far as people being hurt. As for the relationship between the three characters. It is clear to me.. that it is not simple to define. Real people don't have easily written relationships, and often don't act according to logical reasoning about how they feel. Even if Guld was a conscious abuser of Myung, which he wasn't, he didn't even realize what he was doing until he saw his reflection (and then likely stopped as he was so shocked he managed to block the memory of it happening), it is very common for victims to rationalize away such things and pretend it doesn't exist. It is likely too that Myung knew that Guld was not consciously responsible and purposefully avoided talking about it so that side of him never resurfaced as well. On Isamu's side, he simply lost all faith in Guld as a result of what he saw and did, and his reactions compounded with is nature caused Myung to be disappointed in him. She wanted to move on from it or pretend like it wasn't a problem but Isamu was angry and wouldn't leave it be, which created a wedge both between him and Guld, and between him and Myung. Guld blocking the memory of what he did meanwhile thus caused him to believe Isamu was in the wrong, and he simply hated him for that and anything Isamu did in response (whether explaining the truth or just reacting as Isamu usually does, because he isn't very prudent) would just be seen as excuses. The exacerbation of their fight, plus Myung not wanting to bring up the truth in fear of Guld and perhaps in fear of her own memory of the event as mentioned before means she couldn't change his mind or bridge the gap. So basically the problem between the three of them that makes things not so clear is that... it simply can't be clear. Psychology is hard enough to handle when you aren't throwing Zentradi rage into the mix. These kind of issues plague people every day and the fact it was so succinctly incorporated into an OVA story like this is actually as sign of good writing, not lazy writing. Everything I said is basically the tip of the iceberg in examining such a complex relationship. In short, it isn't a typical hollywood relationship that can be understood in one story, it is a realistic human relationship that would take many stories to properly understand (including covering details that Macross Plus did not even touch on). When discussing how Isamu guessed Guld was sacrificing himself in the end.. tone of voice really does answer it. If it was hard to get that in the Italian dub.. the fault may lie in the voice actors there (I can't be sure, haven't watched it that way, and I don't speak Italian). In the original Japanese it seems pretty clear the way Guld speaks that it is a last speech, and even in the English the VAs convey the sense (plus Isamu's English VA is Bryan Cranston so it is not like they had cheap talent, even if this was years before Walter White, lol). I'd suggest watching the movie version in Japanese with subtitles (english or Italian, I'm sure Italian subtitles exist somewhere for it) and see if that helps with that at all. But failing all of that, we can always fall back on the fact that when asked to sum up Macross Plus, Kawamori himself described it simple as thus: "It's a very serious story, with a very silly plot."

I can imagine the YF-29B Percival speaking in a faux Duke Devlin voice with the background music from Timberlake's "Sexy Back" playing in the background answering the question of how it differs from the Durandal with simply, "My design is totally different, my design... has a B in it." -

Pretty much, and yeah, it is saddening there is no specific details on the YF-29B RB custom except that NUNS 'upgraded' it from the base design. Unfortunately we don't know exactly what is better about it. Since it was made for a NUNS special ops group though, it is certainly more killy than the original, lol. -

They had to by NUNG law. Though decentralized, all development data is required to be shared among all the fleets, worlds, etc. Ironically considering the YF-29 came from Frontier, is that Frontier and Galaxy's private little cold war (turned hot by the end of the series) was all about them breaking this law by developing high tech based on pure fold quartz scavenged from the Vajra whilst also competing to find the Vajra home world so they could then go on to monopolize fold quartz. So after all that ended and the Federal NUNG learned what was going on, it is a safe bet Frontier and what was left of Galaxy had to give up everything anyway. The YF-29 is just part of that.
