    You have got to be kidding me. The movie is almost shot for shot the first three volumes of the manga. This crazy fan myth drives me nuts. Unless your argument is "this movie is only the very beginning of the manga", you've got to be kidding.

Also purchasing girls and hacking people's hands off with light sabers and having a robo-horse face mask.

    I didn't say that. But my point is, that's not a good measure of Aramaki's directing skill since someone else worked on it. It's like how DYRL was co-directed between Kawamori and Ishiguro and how Macross Plus was co-directed between Kawamori and Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop fame. You have to look at solo efforts if you want to be able to judge a director's work on its own merit. Both Appleseed movies are WAY better than the Megazone 23 III.

    Hmm, watercolor? I don't recall any watercolor Hirano art in the books I have (I have a lot of Megazone 23 books), but I can check when I get home.
