Well, as I said when we reviewed Southern Cross on Destroy All Podcasts, the show is an interesting failure. Perhaps it was too ambitious for its own good. Some of the mecha are pretty unique ideas (the Spartas is pretty cool even if the cruising mode stupidly doesn't even cover the pilot in a canopy, the space helicoptor Auroran is cool), having a woman as the lead (or three women as leads if you like, since Jeanne, Lana, and Marie are a trinity) is pretty unique, and the show's focus on character development as the resulting slower pace are all nice twists on the real robot genre, but it was Tatsunoko trying to do a Super Dimension show entirely in house without using Studio Nue, Artmic, or any other design houses and maybe that was part of their problem. There really aren't Japanese toys for Southern Cross, just models, so you are kind of stuck unless you want to get the Robotech toys. I actually think the Robotech Spartas is pretty cool, for what it's worth. If you are watching Southern Cross and not Robotech, you will probably realize in the last episode they only defeated one Zor ship and there's a whole fleet left in space around Gloire.

Cosmos Pink Shock - 1986 OVA (Subtitled)
Ginrai replied to Area88's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks very much! -
We have a new podcast up! Goto: http://www.destroyallpodcastsdx.com It is about Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma, a.k.a. Curse of the Undead Yoma. Yeah, Fast Karate already reviewed this show, but neither Zuey nor Star listen to Fast Karate. Wait, what's that? MORE GIRLS THAN BOYS ON A PODCAST? ASTOUNDING!

There is absolutely NO ONE seeding this. I've been waiting 6 hours without downloading a single byte. -
I have no idea how to do that. But you can certainly just go to the website and download them directly. Sorry!

What can I say? iTunes is a crappy program. All of the podcasts should be tagged properly unless iTunes strips the tags somehow, which would be really lame. There's no reason it should categorize them that way.

@Gubaba: Was Barton in Macross 7 proper? I don't remember that character. Also, is there a fan translation of Mylene Beat around or was I hallucinating that? @Acroray: Glad you enjoyed the podcast! I hope you do check out the rest of Dynamite 7 and enjoy it. Basara is certainly kind of a douche, but he's a rock star douche, and he sure hits those notes correctly! I do really like how the Macross universe gets expanded in these little side stories. @RedWolf: Well, all of that stuff is just to provide villains to fight. It's less about the state of UN Spacy and more about the need to generate stories. @DJ Convoy: Haha, yeah, maybe you just don't like drooly space monsters. @Scream Man: They WERE on iTunes. I have no idea what iTunes' problem is. For some reason it only retains ten episodes and I don't know why. You can certainly get the old episodes on www.destroyallpodcastsdx.com.

We talking about Micronauts here?
-
We are officially out of Macross shows to review! Though we'll probably at some point do that omake episode about Flashback and Mech Graffiti and other miscellaneous crap. Well, and whenever the Frontier movie comes out we can do that too.
-
Oops, my bad! Mods, feel free to kill this thread. Re: CDX shirts, I dunno. Let me ask Josh.

Uhm so here is our fourth podcast in two weeks! http://www.destroyallpodcastsdx.com It's about Dynamite 7!

You know, say what you like about Tommy Yune, but his art is better than this.

One of the things about the podcast is that I believe the nature of the podcast should reflect the subject. There's not really a point in trying to seriously dissect a movie with ADD about boobs and monsters and robots because there's nothing serious there. It's like to trying to dissect Canadian Bacon, so the level of is discourse is kind of determined by the subject matter. If you check out our podcast on Beautiful Dreamer or Jin-Roh, you can see we are perfectly capable of critical discussion and such. As for the history, I'm not that familiar with Heavy Metal magazine and not really interested enough to track down a bunch of back issues and really dig into the differences. In this case, it was definitely more of a "reviewing what's on the screen". We did contextualize it within the 70's and 80's underground American animation scene when we were talking about Fritz The Cat and such, but this is a movie designed to appeal to Wayne and Garth, you know? I think it's a lot of fun... if you can shut off your brain and channel your inner stoner metalhead, which is kind of where we were going on the podcast. Normally we do in fact work from an outline and such, but on movies that are just kind of dumb, we usually don't bother and just wallow in their delicious stupidity. I mean, this is a movie that opens with a Sammy Hagar song. But yeah, if you want well-reasoned discourse and films dissected, check out the more legitimate films in our back catalog. (The Urusei Yatsura movies are like this, anything Macross, A Kite, Jin-Roh, Patlabor The Movie... all pretty serious discussions.)

I will pass your compliments onto Shaloop!
-
Chibi Maruko-chan is the name of an actual show? That sounds like a joke name!
-
It's from no anime. It's custom designed for us by this artist I know named Shaloop. It's our spokesrobot! That's why the handles of the swords are microphones.
-
What anime DO you watch?
-
Okay, that's better. Yeah, if you don't like over the top movies, you definitely won't like Heavy Metal. But that makes me wonder why you like anime.
-
Now THAT is a good reason. But it wasn't available on home video for 15 years and was only in the last few years made available again, so hey!
-
Oh MW, full of hate with no reasons behind the hate. Don't ever change.

We have a new episode of Destroy All Podcasts DX up! Hop on over to: http://www.destroyallpodcastsdx.com It's about the 1981 classic, Heavy Metal, an AMERICAN movie about robots and girls. And evil space orbs. And dinosaurs. And future noir with cynical cabbies. And zombies. And lots of gore and boobs. WHY AREN'T YOU WATCHING THIS RIGHT NOW?

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.3
Ginrai replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
God, you guys are whinetronic. -
Oh yeah, because dissing toy companies is something that would never ever happen in a mature environment like Macross World.

You know with PVC antennas and such you can always warm them up (I usually use hot water on such parts) and then put them in the shape you want, and then get them cold in that shape and they will usually stay that way. -
On AWO he just talks about how Megazone 23 was intended to be a TV show, not that it was intended to be a sequel to Mospeada.
