The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
JB0 replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm gonna agree. Really good robot and tank both. I'm tempted to grab it just because. (Holdin' out for a white shuttle that probably isn't coming on Take-off). The thing that bugs me most about the treads, aesthetically, is that they split a wheel when they fold up. I think they should've split between wheels instead, it would look much better. Other than that, I think their solution to the tank treads looks really cool. ... Alternatively, they could have used the wrong vehicle entirely, suffered the ire of the fans, and given me a stealth remake of Super Go-Bot Defendor. Because I had a toy of Defendor and it was awesome.- 9165 replies

It means I find their site admin's inability to list a product for sale under the correct product name hilarious. I considered elaborating at the time, but opted against it. I don't recall why, but if I had to guess, I was posting from my cellphone/pocket PC and ran out of patience with the touch screen. Hadn't have even noticed the downvote. I only pay attention to the vote corner so I can upvote any posts I see downvoted*. I think this red arrow was just a lack of appreciation for my bizarre and off-kilter sense of humor. *To clarify the logic there: Most use of the downvote system I've seen appears to be a small and petty form of harassment, as someone runs through and carpet-bombs an entire page of posts, or every post one person makes, with red arrows for no discernible reason. I feel a green arrow on every red arrow to be a suitably small and petty response. I also kind of think the downvote system is a fundamentally bad idea that INVITES anonymous harassment, so undermining the entire system is a win in my book.

Disney or Comcast buys Fox or Fox wants to sell to someone
JB0 replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't think Fox has fully considered the benefits of MY offer. Sure if you go by straight dollar amounts, I can't afford to give them literally a hundred billion dollars. But in terms of non-cash perks, I am the only one offering to buy every member of the board a pack of gum. This seems like a good deal, and leaves Fox in the hands of someone that ISN'T blatantly evil. That's what I call a win-win, but they simply refuse to return my calls. -

I AM imagining a white repaint. Believe me. Honestly, if they do a white version, I'll probably buy it just for the vehicle mode.- 9165 replies

They are, at best, refining some already finely-polished gems. Lion King and Beauty and the Beast didn't NEED remakes. The effort they expended for a slight improvement could've been spent on making a new movie that could stand alongside them. That they chose instead to do a remake of an already-good film smacks of creative bankruptcy. (I also admit to having had an inherent bias when they launched in on remakeapalooza, since it reminds me of that time in the 90s when they did a lot of dismal low-budget direct-to-video sequels... which was also an era of blatant creative bankruptcy)

Hot damn, that shuttle mode. That's what I'm talkin' about! I mean, the robot mode is a mess on multiple counts, and there were clearly large sacrifices made for the sake of vehicle mode (those legs...) But I can forgive a lot for a shuttle that looks like that. I mean, objectively, Broodlord Lashlayer(lol) is by far the better converting robot. He makes a good robot and a good shuttle. But Take Off makes a GREAT shuttle, so who cares if the robot mode is crap? Next up: An Omega Supreme that turns into an STS fuel tank, rocket boosters, and launch pad to mount him on! Who cares if it isn't even remotely logical? A man can dream, dammit!- 9165 replies

I still hope this is all a prank by Fox, that they're gonna come back and be "Wait, you thought we were ACTUALLY selling everything? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!". -

And thus did the stubby little wings on Broodlord Lashlayer(lol) start to make sense. I was wondering why they were a different scale than the rest of the orbiter. Any larger and the combiner arm would look pretty goofy(unless they added another hinge so they could wrap around, which introduces other problems), they would probably obstruct the elbow, AND they'd be too big for the chestplate gimmick to work. So trade some more vehicle accuracy for wins in the combiner mode. And no, I don't know why "wings coming out the back of the leg" doesn't strike me as goofy looking but "wings coming out the forearm" does.- 9165 replies

Is there a reason UT used World of Warcraft names for everyone? Also, I gotta say I like not-Blastoff's shuttle mode.- 9165 replies

I was partially joking, but I've always preferred the general toy aesthetic over the cartoon's flat, simplistic look. Certainly, the toys were all over the map in terms of proportions and articulation, but I always liked that they actually looked like they could turn into a thing(for the obvious reason of "because they could"), and that they tended to have a bunch of superfluous mechanical detailing. The cartoon often shucked both points for the sake of animation simplicity(or, perhaps, it depicts an alternate universe where ALL the Transformers were minicars).- 16784 replies

In fairness to Burton, he was brought in fairly late on Planet of the Apes. To my understanding he wasn't happy with it either.

Honestly, I'm pretty down on Disney's re-animations* as a general rule. I view them as a waste of time, that can only tarnish the reputation of the originals. But I'm making an exception here. Dumbo wasn't a work of passion honed to perfection. It was designed from the start to be cheap to produce and commercially attractive, thereby maximizing profitability at a time when the company was in bad shape financially. In short, Dumbo was a cynical cash grab. So it is hard to be mad that, most of a century later, another cynical cash grab is being made. I'll be sad to see the crows go, though I'm pretty sure they won't fly in the current era(no pun intended). They were the best part of the movie. *Let's be honest here, they aren't live-action movies. When your animated effects cover more of the screen for more of the runtime than your live-action footage, it ceases to be a live-action movie with animated effects and becomes an animated movie with live-action effects.

JB0 replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Man, I hope in another three months Fox just pipes up and goes "just kidding, we were curious how much of a circus the offer would make." -
That is just how bad "Disney buys Fox" is for us. Comcast is the LESSER evil.

Man, RE never had tank controls to start with. Tank controls is Battlezone/Vindicators/T-Mek twin-stick. Push up on both sticks to go forward, up on one and down on the other to turn. I AM A CROTCHETY OLD FART, GET OFF MY LAWN!

No weirder than the rest of the cartoon was, anyways.
