  1. Time to go collect, mafia-style. Honestly, the pre-order circus is just stupid. One would think that they make enough units to fill pre-orders, but it seems like they actually make an intentionally inadequate number to encourage preorder madness and scalper abuse.
  2. Not gonna lie, if you're buying the toy for the engineering, you can skip SoC Voltron. Lion Voltron has been a solved problem for ages, and the transformation can be summed up roughly as "the diecast Matchbox toy, but with two axes of movement at the shoulders and hips". It is very much a "what you see is what you get" kind of toy. ... And I'm still sad it didn't come with an "energy bar" so I could do a proper "form blazing sword" pose.
  3. Which is probably why they've not tried to buy MOSPEADA and Southern Cross outright. They could do it, but why bother without Macross?
  4. Propose we edit the thread title for accuracy by adding "jk lol" to the end?
  5. As long as they all have nice chrome plastic where it belongs, and Hasbro doesn't cheap out/get scared. I propose we call them Rumzy and Fremble forevermore. Cartoon loyalists are unhappy, toy purists are unhappy, even the comic fans are grumpy.
  6. I've got the old version(one NES style, one FamiCom style). I did check a Mk 2 recently, and it has the same issue. The pivot is about an eighth of an inch too low. Place your thumb on the center of the cross-key and press down, and it drops down before it comes to rest on the pivot. It plays hell with rapid changes of direction, as it falls out from under you while you're switching, JUST far enough to throw movement off. I go to snap from left to right and I stutter along the way when I try to rock it across the pivot. To be clear, it is far from the worst implementatoin. It doesn't want to fall into diagonals, it doesn't have weird sensitivity issues. And there IS a pivot. I've seen a lot of directionals lately, even from some respectable companies, that simply didn't bother with it, and as far as I'm concerned they are COMPLETELY unusable. It is just frustrating that they got so close, and didn't make the final interior fit and finish check. I can't think of a good spacer offhand to get it from 95% to 100%, like the old 360 pringles mod(a far worse case of slight tolerance issues messing up an otherwise well-designed d-button).
  7. Very nice on both counts. I didn't know 8bitdo was doing actual Sega-style controllers now instead of just painting Nintendo-style controllers black and blue and calling them Sega-style. ... Did they fix the d-pad tolerances that plague the N30 Pros?
  8. "This item is no longer available" That's disappointing. What tapes were they?
  9. Making the lions able to sit like dogs was apparently a primary engineering goal, since it is iconic. They didn't say it, but I suspect also because the rest of the engineering is child's play(it isn't THAT diffrent from the original toy).
  10. Ah, but you're not considering it in the light of privacy laws passed after the Eugenics Wars shattered most of the nations of Earth, World War Three nuked the rest, and the Bell riots exposed systematic oppression and segregation of the poor in the United States... which managed to survive both wars unscathed? Basically, Star Trek is an inconsistent mess on the best of days, and the titular TV series especially was rarely concerned with continuity that lasted more than an hour. Just gotta roll with the punches.
  11. Obviously, they refrained in Spock's case to ensure no one played favorites with the politically-connected half-vulcan.
  12. VEHICLE VOLTRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! ... That is all.
  13. Mars Matrix really is under-appreciated. I get the impression it gets overshadowed by its big brother Gigawing. But there's no excuse for every person on Earth, and most of their dogs, to have played Ikaruga(which isn't even all that good*) and no one's even HEARD of Mars Matrix. *Yep. I went there.
  14. That is terrible and amazing at the same time. From an in-universe perspective, it makes sense. I mean, Mithril's basically a myth, and how would you get documentation of their elite custom mecha anyways? And there'd be wildly more documentation of the "real" version even if all else was equal. But from a real-world perspective... it isn't a screw-job, it's a screw-career.
  15. Heck yeah, Mars Matrix! I love that game. Edit: I forgot about the profanity filter
  16. It has been a long time since I was a kid and Voltron was fresh, but I think it was just the more sci-fi-ish aesthetic. Giant robots fighting in space is way better than giant robots fighting in the wastelands that covered much of Arus. And space carriers are better than castles.
  17. Are they three times faster than a normal VF-31, or is red paint required for that?
  18. That does look pretty sweet. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
  19. So in honor of the current anime adaptation, I'm re-reading Kaguya etcetera etcetera. I was originally just spot-checking chapters to figure out how far the anime was going to run, but then I just started reading them all, and now I'm well past anything the anime can possibly reach and still going. Ooops? No regrets.
