  1. looks like flashback scenes from macross plus, probably from the movie version... I'm pretty sure that's it exactly. I really don't want to stick my crappy VHS tape in the VCR to check, though...
  2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Nightmare purely passive stealth? Releasing it without stealth would've meant creating a whole new plane.
  3. Ok... any word on just WHAT the Valkyrie uses for reaction mass? Not as far as I know. I don't think either fuel or propellant has ever been specified.
  4. As I understand it, he bribed Yamato to make him a 1:1 VF-1S...
  5. Shammy is Finnish, Vanessa is French, and Kim is from the "South Asia Federation". Now, where in the heck did you find that out? That just seems like it's too obscure to be common knowledge. http://macross.anime.net/characters/index.html I bet.
  6. Just to back up what Nanashi has said....nuclear reactors would be the power plant for the Valkyrie. Reaction mass (liquid water maybe?) is still necessary to go from point a to point b as well as being used in vernier thrusters and so forth. No reaction mass and no movement. Furthermore, you also need something for the reactor to fuse. There's no reason for that to not be stored as a liquid, particularly since the cleanest fusion reaction uses helium and the easiest use hydrogen, both of which you will HAVE to liquify to get a reasonable amout of fuel in the tank.
  7. Probably something done off the front line.... though you have to wonder what pilot would carry a three shot wonder into battle rather than their trusty GU-11.... One that needed more kick, but couldn't spare the added size of FAST packs? And I wouldn't think it replaces the GU-11. It's pretty small.
  8. Likely. You have to remember that a gunboat is basically just a floating cannon. The larger vessels weren't intended to be used solely as big guns. So they didn't carry a weapon as large proportionately as a gunboat would. The Macross is overpowered for it's size because that's what gunboats are. Actually, the Nupetiet-Vergnitzs class has a huge cannon that is mainly used for combat again large mobile fortresses, while Millia's ship is a gun destroyer with a short range cannon because it is a special forces unit, while there is the heavier gun destroyer which has a long range firing cannon, like the Macross. There are different specifications because the ships serve different purposes. That's sort of what I was trying to get at. The Macross just SEEMS to be more powerful proportionately because it was never intended to be a general-purpose vehicle. They put a lot more of the ship into the gun, proportionally, then most of the other vehicles. Hence the notable lack of onboard anti-mecha weaponry. It's not SUPPOSED to defend itself, because it has escorts. Self-defense would just draw power from the cannon. The Vergnitzs cannon didn't seem as powerful proportionately as the Macross cannon did. If it was, the final battle of Space War 1 would've likely consisted of a single shot into Bodolzaa's Fulbtzs-Berrentzs from a distance, rather than the bold, audacious, and somewhat suicidal Macross Attack. Aside from a probable upper limit on or non-linear scaling(IE doubling the size of the cannon doesn't double the power output) of the technology, the Vergnitzs needed space and energy for other stuff too. It wasn't JUST a cannon. Unfortunately, it lends a false impression that the Macross is somehow more advanced, because it's got such a large punch in such a small package.
  9. Looks reloadable to me. Just stuff more grenades in the front.
  10. I aksed for one for christmas. Due to my poor communication skills at the time, I wound up with a "Alpha". The little one with removable wings, too.
  11. IT IS ZENTRADI!
  12. I've never seen a version without the Episode 4 in the text scroll. This includes televisings from before the non-special-edition remaster. The ones that had degraded so badly the sky was orange. Alas, I'm a tad young to remeber seeing the original in theaters, and the first home version I owned was the remasters(again emphasis is on non-special-edition). I'm the kid that was mildly shocked to find out the sky wasn't SUPPOSED to be orange. But personally, I think it was there, and just forgotten untill prequels were started. I KNOW it wasn't edited into the Special Edition releases like some people claimed.
  13. But less than 2 years before the SE, he released the Original Trilogies on VHS, and it was supposed to be "the last time". I have the box. It says for the last time in it's original form. Perfectly honest bastard. And honestly, I LIKED some of the changes. I have 2 big offenses... 1. The infamous Greedo shot. It's sloppy, looks bad, and the timing is such that Han STILL shoots in cold blood, defeating the purpose of the edit(which is to make a hardened criminal like Han Solo into a retard that waits for someone to ACTUALLY try to kill him before he moves to protect himself, rather than act as soon as it is convenient). It also ruins one of favorite lines in the trilogy("I've waited a long time for this, Solo." "Yes, I bet you have!"). 2. That damn singer with the tentacle mouth in Jabba's palace. I did NOT need to see a 30-foot-wide alien lips. I furthermore believe those 2 changes are what most of the world holds against the special edition. They were by far the most offensive moments.
  14. And as Millia engages Max in a duel to the death, the oft-slain Kakizaki comes up from behind looking for sweet revenge! Now it's time for someone else to get wasted from behind before they see it coming!
  15. it prob has do to with anything japanese, but i see people dressed up like star wars people at anime expo so go figure i think anything is fairgame Add Battletech to the list. Yes, I've seen someone go as a battlemech.
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if the 3 laws were already in there. The entertainment industry has a tendancy to throw them in there at random. I'v eseen them in books, movies, and video games with no ties to Asimov.
  17. FIND IT! NOW! And then photoshop in a word bubble that says "Huh, just a box..."
  18. Why would it be yanked by ebay? Illegal or something? Well, one of eBay's rules is no dev kits, if I recall. I suspect Nintendo started throwing a hissy fit. This IS the same company that sued because lik-sang sodl them GBA flash carts for their dev teams to use(a case that still hasn't been settled).
  19. ... *chuckle* *snort* BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *breathes* HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is a HUGE collector's market for vintage games. I direct you to digitpress.com and atariage.com for examples. Digitpress is fun, as they have a rarity guide. With reasonable prices. For the record, my personal target item is a Vectrex 3D Imager. A loose one(no box, no manual, maybe not even cart and color wheel) is worth about 275$. And while it's about the crowning glory of a Vectrex collection(only a japanese Vectrex can take you higher without hitting prototypes( like the one known color Vectrex)), that's CHEAP when you start looking around at what some stuff goes for. How high can we go? The M2 dev unit in that auction sticks out. The system was never released, and most of the dev units were lost or destroyed. The only other one I know of went for TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS! Now please don't disparage the gaming collector's market further. At least not untill you know at least what a Heavy Sixer, a Woody, and a Vader refer to. Hint: a more modern equivalent would be referring to the front-loading NES as a "Toaster". People DO collect more things than die-cast toys. And they do so as rabidly as with any other market.
  20. WHOO! LEIA BIKINI!
  21. More importantly, Next-gen console DOES NOT MEAN GameCube, PS2, and XBox! They ARE THE CURRENT GEN, NOT THE NEXT! The next-gen consoles are the Xbox2, PS3, and ... I think Nintendo is calling there's Revolution right now... None are yet available. So NO NEXT-GEN CONSOLE HAS ANY METAL GEAR!
  22. That still doesn't excuse the sheer number of DVDs out there with pretty much the same content. Yah. Movie companies have gotten into a bad habit of doing that. Widescreen and fullscreen was bad enough, especially since widescreen only became... err... widely available after DVD came out. And DVD allows both versions on one disk. But Noooo.... they have to have limited edition(which rarely is), collector's edition(again, rarely), special edition(third rarely), standard edition, signature edition(whatever that means), bundle edition... It's enough to make me want to stab someone. To movie companies: You aren't using half the space on the disk to begin with. Put widescreen and fullscreen on the same disk and QUIT MAKING 30 DIFFRENT PACKAGES OF THE SAME THING! And yes, that banner IS hilarious.
  23. There's a reason for that, a reason why widescreen exists and why televisions are moving to a widescreen aspect. It's closer to how we naturally see. Try and put your fingers at the very edge of your vision. We actually view the world in a wider aspect ratio than most movies are filmed in. I know. I also know that some people can't stand to have a screen that isn't completely full.
  24. Yes, we're familiar with it. This line of discussion was prompted by an explanation of said info. And 5 is incomplete, as it should include ADV's Southern Cross and MOSPEADA sets too..
  25. I'm sure it's going to end up on one of the fanbase pages before long so even if people miss the re-airing it will eventually be seen. I personally see no difference between this and trying to buy a car. The same make and model of one year can come in many different colors. With or without: sunroof moonroof alloy wheels cd changer leather interior power windows power steering automatic engine size cruise control and etc.... which even when going to the dealership you are stuck to choose between what they have on the lot unless you preorder the car. If you can't find one you're looking for you have to wander around dealership to dealiship asking if they have the type of car you want. Isn't that just a frustrating? So just about any market out there is confusing it's consumer in some way. I agree it would be nice to have one all inclusive set. When I heard the Remastered RT was coming out I sold my original dvd's only to learn afterward the sound effects were changed and that the audio was subpar in opinions of some fans. I'm still without dvd's because I don't know where to invest my money again.. back into the originals or the new video? But you only buy one car either way. You don't go out to collect the entire 2004 Toyota lineup. With the DVDs, you're coming back for more purcahses, because you want the whole series. You also have no option to customize DVDs before purchase, much to the dismay of many Star Wars fans. I grant the average consumer the ability to understand singe disk/box set releases. I expect them to get confused by 3 diffrent boxes of the same thing, plus a 4th related box*. They're pr'ly do something like buy all the complete boxes, then grab the first legacy box and get pissed because it's stuff they already own. And some people WILL mix up the diffrent boxes and wind up wiht a mix of legacy and remastered, and pr'ly a complete or original series box too. And signifigant duplication. *I do grant the original series sets should exist. But I do not believe ADV should push the "It's part of Robotech" angle. They should let it be a standalone product. Animeigo is sort of stuck, though, because a lot of people think "Robotech is a dubbed version of Macross." I'm sure they've fielded more than one complaint about "only releasing the first third of Macross."
