  1. I said almost embarassing. But a cel from a whole diffrent scene? How does that even get there?
  2. Satisfactory is about all that can be said. Was rewatching it earlier. In one episode I saw uncountable instances of mis-assembled frames. Wrinkled cels, mis-stacked cels, and one instance of a cel from a diffrent scene winding up on top of the current frame. It's almost embarassing.
  3. Not even CLOSE to worst dubbing, sadly. Especially since Enix botched it intentionally. They used a combination of bad voice actors and good voice actors told to ham it up, in an attempt to capture the feel of a dubbed japanese monster movie. Glad to see it recommended in this thread. It's an AWESOME game. Anyone that says otherwise is wrong.
  4. Point is... name doesn't make sense at all. Autocannon already implies that it's a type of automatic gun so the fact that it can fire in bursts is implicit. And who calls the bursts of an automatic weapon pulses? Pulse tends to imply an energy weapon... and the description of the gun sounds like an energy weapon, so why call it an autocannon at all? Either word by itself would have been fine. They just don't make anything resembling sense together at all. Well, it could NOT fire continuously. Fixed 5-round bursts, for example. Though there's no room for ammo in the head... Could be rapid-fire energy pulses instead of a single beam.
  5. Actually, the Lynx was VERY innovative. Switchable backlight(Sound familiar? The GBASP has it, bringing the grand total in the market to ... two). Reversable control for left- and right-handed people(No other system has it. No other system is even designed remotely right to make it feasable). A well-documented, 8-unit interface standard*(DS one-ups it, but other than that... nothing). It was also the most powerful of the 3.5 portables in the day(I'm giving the TurboExpress a half point, since it's the same dang thing as the then-current TG16 home console). But like most things under the Tramiel-owned incarnation of Atari, it was doomed to minimal support, including almost no advertising and a fairly limited software selection. Did it have it's flaws? Yes. Was lackof innovation one of them? No. *Little known fact: very few 8-bit GB games support the link cable because the original gamelink port had almost no documentation, and was completely lacking in error correction, which combined to make it almost impossible to get any real data transfer done(hell, it loses sync REGULARLY in VS mode Tetris in my experience). Often scrapppng link support was all that was needed to get a behind-schedule game back on track. So that's what was done. It was the first feature on most developers' chopping block when a game started lagging behind. Bullet-proof Software really deserves a LOT of credit for Faceball, which I KNOW supports the 4-player adapter and I've been told can support MULTIPLE 4-player adapters, for up to 16 players at once(can't find documentation of this one way or the other).
  6. Yah. Metroid didn't really have a "good" control scheme available. Though Nintendo seems to realize this, since there's 5 diffrent ones, each with their own strengths and weaknesses(well, really 3+mirror images of 2).
  7. Nintendo's new add slogan should be "The S stands for sexy." Not that "touching is good" isn't a nice catchphrase, but...
  8. Ugh. It's true, but... ugh. Heck, why bother with that much effort? Just being publisher lets you steal credit about 75% of the time. I hate how little credit developers get from the public. They do all the work, and some company with deeper pockets that did nothing but stamp some CDs and buy some magazine ads gets all the glory. It's infuriating.

GAH! They drew it on a 1A! I realize they've made more 1As than everything else combined, making it the most prolific VF to use as a base, but they couldn't use something with a nice-looking head anyways?
  10. Well everyone already knows that Sony has games more oriented towards adults whereas Nintendo tends to cater more twards kid friendly games. The DS follows this trend, though it is nice to see they are trying to branch out with games like Sprung, but honestly the PSP is still going to follow the Sony trend to have more adult oriented games. Vostok 7 Crunch the #s some time. That's market perception, not reality. Nintendo has a larger % of T and M games than Sony. And Sony has more E games.
  11. Presumably it's an autocannon that fires in pulses.
  12. A. I play plenty of PC FPSes. In fact, I can't think of a single console FPS I own(Metroid Prime being filed as action-adventure, not shooter). B. It WON'T get rid of the lift/drop. Just reduce it. C. I use a trackball. That DOES get rid of it, as well as offering me more precision than I get out of a mouse. akt_m: One word: trackball. Mice work quite nicely for Missile Command and Breakout-type games, where the range of motion is limited anyways. But they suck for unlimited range of motion games like, well, FPSes. I use a Logitech Cordless Optical Mouseman. I love it. I have a Logitech "Marble Mouse". Which isn't a mouse at all... What I WANT is a Kensington Expert Mouse Optical. Heck, any ExpertMouse would do. But I can't justify paying a hundred bucks for a pointing device. ... And of course, once I had that I'd be stting my sights upon the pinnacle of pointing devices, the one, the only, 4" Missile Command trackball. ... Which would actually be sub-optimal except for arcade emulation, since you can't mount any buttons reasonably close to the ball, and it really takes a lot of hand motion. But it's a beautiful ball...
  13. To make it look like authentic japanese concept art and further confuse the already confused masses.

  15. I wonder if mine still has that Millia... last I was there it was 50, and I dodn't want to pay that.
  16. Yah. The abundance of control options is a nice feature. It's funny you mention that, because it reminded me why and exactly how much I hate mice for most gaming. I vastly prefer trackballs because I can keep going in a continuous motion instead of the classic stop-lift-reverse-drop maneuver that steals so many moments from my attack. the fact that a half row of the touch-sensitive grid was already dead didn't help, either. WHAT do the undisciplined brats that were running rampant DO to these things? Unfortunately, neither d-pads nor button diamonds seem very intuitive for aiming/turning. I will definitely have to practice that if I adopt the DS Metroid game as one in my collection, unless the thumb stylus plays far better than the pen stylus does(it's quite possible). Some more time with it and I may pick out a control scheme to like as opposed to tolerate.
  17. It's not so much that the color will mask it... but the brighter, fruity colors of the original GBA made it look like something for young children. Silver says, "I'm a toy, but a toy adults can play with." Never really was an issue for me. It could be pink and I'd still play it. I use the devices for games, not fashion statements. The jury is still out on the DS for me, but its looking tempting... I won't NOT play something because of the aesthetics, but IDO like having options. Given the choice between a yellow and translucent purple GameBoy, which would YOU get? I got yellow, because it wasn't hideous. If purple was the only option, I'd've still gotten one. But I liked the yellow one a lot more.
  18. One big diffrence here... In the GBA the 8-bit GB processor is inacessable in GBA mode(total waste of a chip, and evidence to support my belief that the GBA was rushed to market to stop Bandai and SNK). In the DS both CPUs operate in parallel in DS mode. And the performance disparity is small enough that the system can really be considered a dual-proc device. Anyways... I'll trade my GBA in for a GBColor when I get a DS. Neither incarnation of the GBA is really pleasing to me(one's got a crappy d-pad, the other's too damn small). The DS has neither unit's flaws(well, not untill the LiIon packs start failing...). And while teh GBC isn't my favorite system ever, it's the most convenient 8Bit GB.
  19. It's easy to forget. I usually leave a memcard in the system all the time, simulating the glory days of built-in SRAM. Hmmm... wonder if I could solder a card in internally...
  20. More proof that beta-testing is a lost art.

    Question. . .

Given up on the 1:1 VF-1J? ... Wait, that was my dream.
  22. Which reminds me... the game won't let you assassinate Minmay in the next level(when "Rick Hunter" orders you to fly her to her concert). She's $#@%ing bullet-proof. HA! never tried it. Another mission that drove me nuts was the 'deadly stom' one where you have to save the green valk girl. I dont remember her name so im going to call her missy. The bitch you have to fight is hard so much transforming and button pushing for like 20 minutes, only to die and do it again, hurts my hands. Still have not beaten it Deadly Storm... You sure you don't mean Graveyard? Izzy gets shot down in Storm, you have to save her in Graveyard. I didn't have a problem in either level. DS is like any other aerial dogfight. Graveyard is actually one of my favorite levels in the game. First get Izzy onto solid ground, of course. F mode + boosters through the canyons, right up to Izzy. This shaves several seconds off the level, totally risk free. Best of all, they're the most boring ones. Drop to G mode when you're right on top of her and grab her. Flying low in F mode speeds this up since the GERWALK ... 'scuse me, "Guardian"... doesn't have to dive very far. Now start swearing untill you get to the shore to put her down. That mission objective isn't there just for looks, she can and will drown if you ignore her. She goes under about half-way thorugh the fight. You might could ignore her totally if you were good enough with F mode to drop the QRau fast. I'm not. This is where I take most of my damage, because I can't do much dodging or gun down any missiles untill I drop Izzy on the shore. But if you want to do the fight in GERWALK mode exclusively, putting Izzy down on the shore is an optional objective. I don't think it even hinders your movement any to carry her around. 2 strategies I use after getting Izzy to shore... A. the GERWALK pogo. Get a wall between you and the boss, pop up, unload missiles, duck down while reloading. Throw in some gunpod shots if you want to speed things up. You'll have to move around a bit with the boosters to get clear of incoming aerial-fired missiles. This is essentially ewilen's tactic. It works, but it's dull. But it saves you having to dispose of Izzy somewhere "safe". B. Battroid all the way. Keep boost down and "skate" all over the place. This keeps her from lasering you with any real effectiveness. Fortunately, your gunpod is a lot more accurate than her lasers. Shoot your primary fire at her untill she fires missiles, then go to secondary fire and gun the missiles down. Watch your gunpod meter, because overheating is your greatest threat. If you overheat, you can't shoot missiles down. If you can't shoot missiles down, you're in zentradi-sized doodoo. And stay away from the walls while you do this. As odd as it seems to run AWAY from cover, this works better in the open where you have more room to skate around. You CAN use the walls and pogo-jump to get a line of fire when she lands, but... WHY? Fighter mode isn't one I particularly enjoy in this game(I avoid using it outside of aerial/space battles unless I absolutely NEED the speed or the bite), but it DOES have the most speed and punch, so it can get you out of an incoming missile strike pretty fast and if you have room to fire them, it's missiles do heavy damage. The graveyard gives you enough room to fly, if you're careful. The fastest way to handle things in my experience is to go to GERWALK, unload your missiles when you have a clean line of fire, drop to battroid and do tactic B untill your missiles reload. Lather, rinse, repeat. Maybe launch a missile volley or 2 while entering the arena in F mode if you see her on the way to Izzy. It's a hell of a lot more fun than pogo-jumping.
  23. eBay makes people stupid. Long answer... I bet a lot of those bidders have never hrard of Macross. They jumped on eBay, shoved in "robotech", saw the neat toy with the cool box, and started bidding. Without even researching the product. They pr'ly think it's vintage 80's merchandise.
  24. Back to the Future?
  25. Which reminds me... the game won't let you assassinate Minmay in the next level(when "Rick Hunter" orders you to fly her to her concert). She's $#@%ing bullet-proof.
