That was done in the manual. Your guy was the comm officer or something. Everyone else went in while he stayed behind in the landing ship. Everyone else got maimed/mauled/killed/posessed/turned to shotgun-wielding zombies before you ever set foot on the ground. He peeked out to see WTF happened. Then went on a homicidal demon-killing rampage. And Doom2's story was as simple as the first. You didn't blow the poo out of the demons in time, and they invaded Earth. You must go on another homicidal rampage.

If I recall, the "creators" let the Dairugger 15 license lapse, and don't want to pay the asking price for a new one. So no vehicle Voltron ever. Sucks, don't it?

Someone please explain to me Ghost in the Shell

The manga is WAY better than the movie. For one, Major Kusanagi isn't a simmering pile of depressed suicidal angst. For 2, it's just massively better written. 3, They don't prattle on and on about one philosophical point. There's a lot of thought-provoking stuff in it, really. But it puts the ideas out there and lets you mull them over. 4. SEBUROS!!! 5. FUCHIKOMAS!!! Note that 4 and 5 are the ravings of a fan that read the manga first. While the Seburos are very neat handguns and the fuchikomas are fun characters, they are HARDLY constitute a massive diffrence. But long story short... Shirow needs to be involved in the adaptations of his work. He is not in the first movie, and it is painfully obvious. It's heavy-handed, preachy, and kinda WTF at several points. Also... the footnotes and end notes in the graphic novel(I ASSUME they kept them for the new edition...) are worth the price of admission alone, IMO. -
tri-Ace's art is being messed with too. Not as much, true, but I think the combination looks pretty good, actually.

That's a good point, actually. The Cheyenne could fill a role that was supplanted by the VF-1.

I've never really used reviews for guidance, beyond genreal theme. I usually just rey on instinct. Amazingly enough, this mechanism serves me fairly well. I'm somewhat good at dodging the real stinkers and picking out the gems.

I have a question. WHY make a Doom movie to begin with? Think about it. It's one guy with a lot of guns shooting a bunch of zombie marines and demons. There 's no room for any character development or story advancement. It's just a gorefest. This is why game movies don't work, as a general rule. You either remain faithful to the material, and turn out a REALLY boring movie(watching a game IS NOT fun), or you rewrite things and alienate the core fanbase you're relying on for initial ticket sales.

Darn right. Never understood why it gets so much praise. -
Napster killed nothing. The recording industry killed themselves by oversaturating the market with me too's and then charging damn near $20 for a CD that cost them next to nothing to make. CD sales were on the way down, file sharing or not. Actually, it WAS Napster. Sort of. When the RIAA attacked Napster, it started a boycott of CDs. Most of the Napster users were using it as a preview system, and actually buying CDs. So the users felt that it was an attack on legitimate purchasers. And legitimate studies up to that point had connected INCREASED CD sales to file-sharing. After that firstl lawsuit, it was all downhill. Boycott starts, CD sales fall, RIAA cites hard #s as evidence of file-sharing damage instead of just preaching their pet theory, RIAA is unable to shut down modern sharing programs due to their decentralized nature, so they commit PR suicide and directly attack the consumer, causing further reduced sales as they alienate their purchasers even more, reduced sales cause more lawsuits, lather, rinse, repeat.

Lenneth/Hrist is DEFINITELY an improvement.
-
Valkyrie Profile's a good game. Lenneth doesn't look quite right as a redhead, though(or would that be Hrist?...). And personally, I'd shift the feathers to white.

But, but... I HUNGER.

Heh. ... Actually, light-up thrusters would be pretty cool...

Not really. A story from the PoV of a destroid pilot on the Prometheus, to use an old example, wouldn't necessarily mess with the original storyline. Just add to it. Not gonna happen. The Destroids don't transform, and we all know that non-transforming mecha are just bit-players in the Macross universe. I know. It was just the first example of a "side story" I could think of. And YES! @ KingNoir. Clean things up, but keep the show essentially as-is. No replacing the 80s designs with modern 21st century ones, no changing things after the fact, no making Kamjin Minmay's biggest fan. Just visual polishing. It'd be nice to have a version of Virgin Road that didn't make my eyes bleed. If you want a full remake, go watch DYRL. Granted it's not the same depth a full series offers, but it's still a pretty radical rewrite.

None I can think of, really. BUT... SegaCD. Sega Saturn. TurboCD. 3D0. CD systems with built-in save RAM. Also all older machines, because f'ing Sony made the memory card an acceptable way to do things.

... *winces* Ya know, neither the plane nor the action figure looked that bad when I was a kid. DAMN YOU FOR SOILING MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES! On the other hand, I was always quite annoyed that it didn't transform, because aside from being a toy of a "transformer"(as all transforming vehicles were Transformers, and Robotech was CLEARLY a rip-off), it was obviously intended to change forms at one point(Look at the tail fins! They're HINGED!) yeah, the tail is hinged so it can hold the boosters. Yes, it does come with boosters. I don't think mine did. Could've been a defective package, though. ... Did the thruster feet unfold too? I'm not SURE on this point, but I think they did.

IIRC I think the developers mentioned that it was acutally based off an animation mistake. Sorry I don't have a link for you... Yes they did. And I don't doubt that's true, to a small degree. I mean, it DOES have the 3 head guns... But as has been pointed out, the YF-1R head bears very little resemblence to the animation error in question(which would have given it a 1A head between its side lasers). So I ask... would YOU admit that you were thiefing design elements from other sources? ... Even knowing HG(We can't steal from Macross because we OWN Macross!), they wouldn't, just because it covers their asses should Big West decide to sue them. They claim it's based on the VF-1A animation goof, which they actually have (non-exclusive) rights to. Then steal the VF-11 head, because "Big West can't copyright a hexagon LOLOL". Personally, I think the VF-11 similarity is too strong to just ignore.

I know why! It's because powered armor is cool. And transforming is cool. And motorbikes are cool. And transforming motorbikes change into... powered armor. It's cool cubed. Or something. </rambling>

don't assume that the VF-11 was ripped off from the what ever Robotech item you refer too. check your time lines. it's clear when the chicken and eggs achieved their orgasms... I KNOW that. I was TRYING to suggest the possibility that Rawbooteck ripped the VF-11 head off for the YF-1R.

Macross Mecha Depicted in non-Macross Series
JB0 replied to wolframbane's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ha. I got one of those when I was a kid and Rawbooteck was still in it's first run. Green VF-1J. Here's the thing... everyone else is talking about Macross. You're talking about this Rawbooteck thing that very few people here like, partially for political reasons, partially because it's really not that great a writing job. IF you're gonna be a Robotech fan, you gotta be ready to take some crap for it. -
Too bad Spehiroth is second only to Kefka in the "lamest villain ever" category. Sorry, but I have to say, I strongly disagree with that statement....... Kefka > Sephiroth! It's a close race. But a clown?

Can't help, but I understand your pain. Complete games are so much better than naked disks/carts.

One could argue that's what makes him an effective villain. I never took him seriously. All the way through the game, I was wondering when the REAL bad guy would show up. I felt cheated when he was it.
