  1. Within the next 5 years, analog broadcasts are supposed to be ceased completely. Current schedule is at the end of 2006, NTSC ceases to air. http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html Hence why I wouldn't even consider buying ANY TV that wasn't at leat DTV-ready.
  2. I prefer this, personally. http://www.plustech.fi/Walking1.html Sure, it doesn't have a gatling, and it's a hexapod, but...
  3. Never trust the electronics store guys. They're there to sell you something, not to think. We had the opposite problem when we had cable. On-air feeds were better than the cable. We also had a lot of cable dropouts. ... But darn it, we liked the extra channels. Yah. Voom's big marketing thing is "We carry actual DTV signals! And lots of them!"
  4. Fair enough. It sounded like you were saying they ghosted and had static. Quality degradation as opposed to choppy reception. With very few exceptions, direct feed sources don't give you digital TV signals, though. It's a common misconception that they take advantage of at every opportunity. We use an amplified antenna in my house But really, most of my area's analog TV problems are interference and ghosting, as opposed to low signal strength. Exactly the kind of things DTV fixes.
  5. Except most digital cable and digital satellite carriers DON'T carry digital TV signals. They carry analog TV signals that have been sampled into digital then heavily compressed. Digital TV is all or nothing. If you pick it up, it's perfect reception. There is no degradation as with conventional analog signals. More have progressive scan than have anamorphic widescreen, in my experience. XBox supports higher resolutions. It's the only system to go above progressive-scan analog, though.
  6. No. Over-the-air digital broadcasts are free, including high-res HD signals. See the word monitor next to HDTV? It doesn't have a built-in digital tuner. You'll pay an extra... I think 200$ right now for a digital tuner. But given the analog signals are scheduled to be shut down in the near future(next few years), it's a good investment. I wouldn't buy a set without digital inputs at this point in time. I personally think that it's criminal to even be selling TVs without digital tuners in them at this point, but TV manufacturers think it's criminal to not milk every last dollar out of the consumer, and that means using the cheapest parts possible for as long as possible. Tuner prices should go WAY down once every TV watcher in America has or needs one.
  7. I wear glasses and I hate Harry Potter. But I like Macross 7. Though I hate Teletubbies. ... Maybe it's because Basara wears glasses. I always thought Max was better than Hikaru, too.
  8. Awww, C'MON!!! You're really pushing it with this one. Why are you trying to compare the 1/65 M7 toys to the newer and more intricate 1/48 Yammies? Why not actually compare the M7-toys to the older 1/55 VF-1 series from the same maker Bandai? First line. But still simpler than modern VF-1 toys. The original 1/55 VF-1 had an elegantly simple transformation. It's one of it's best features, toy-wise. Even compared to toys from the same period, it stands out. And transformations've been getting more complex in the modern toys as near as I can tell. I haven't bought a Transformer in years, but it's not obvious to me how the transformation proceeds in the new ones just from looking. The cost of robots with moving legs and hip joints, I guess.
  9. Far more popular? In what universe is this, Keith? I'm sorry, I must have missed the major motion picture, toyline, and other series spun off of Macross 7. Care to point them out of me? Well, there was teh macross 7 "movie" The OVA series The manga spin-off The toys and models The video game The best selling musical CDs in the Macross series? Maybe not more popular than the original, but damn close. LOL, Macross 7 movie. Completely on par with DYRL. Ah yes, the OVA about naked kids and space whales... which has been seen by a fraction of the people who have seen Plus. Toys, models, and video games? You surely are not talking about that Gameboy game, are you? Or the two crappy Bandai hunks of plastic that are supposed to pass as toys? Oooo!, and the pink Valkyrie model with the tits! I mean, come on, lets be serious here. Your attempt was laughable. What exactly is WRONG with the Gameboy game? And what does it matter anyways? The point was they cranked one out. Much like they did for the original series on the FamiCom, only with 15 years of evolution in the industry between the two. And the toys are... well, they're no worse than the 1/55 VF-1. While they do pale in comparison to a 1/48 VF-1, the 1/48 isn't a mass market toy. It's the Macross equivalent of Masterpiece Prime. The Mac7 toys are INTENDED FOR CHILDREN. They don't care if it's accurate to the line art, or how much metal content it has. Just that it bears a vague resemblance to what they see on the TV, and can be transformed without asking mom for help. To that end, a big hunk of plastic is PREFERABLE to something with intricate detail, articulated hands, and a complex transformation.
  10. I was expecting at least one Space Gandam V screenshot. I'm mildly disappointed.
  11. Definitely. It's a little-known fact that the first AC unit in recorded history was installed by Jesus in Mary and Joseph's house.
  12. Right. As I mentioned before, the surface of the front of the PSP isn't actually the LCD surface. Rather, most of the unit's face is under one uniform layer of plastic. As long as you're careful around the buttons and the UMD drive, you should be alright to wipe the front with a damp cloth. Most electronic devices I've seen recommend a damp cloth, regardless of how well sealed the case is.
  13. He has tentacle hands. Seriously. Tentacles that end in balls with 5 mini-tentacles coming off of them. ... I hate DYRL-style zentradi. Why can't they just be people with wierd skin colors?
  14. Then does that mean Macross 7 fans = meltran. and the m7 haters = zentran. :D For the record, the meltran are hot. And the zentran are covered with nasty gangrenous boils, and led by a tentacled head in a jar. So sayeth DYRL.
  15. thousands of years from now archaeologist will discover a stone tablet about the battles between mac7 haters and mac7 likers and a lady will sing a simple song that will unite our clones and fight for freedom. And the song will be titled "0G Dance".
  16. I wasn't referring to anybody in specific, the problem with the Macross 7 haters goes far beyond the actions of one person. What happens is that someone starts a thread about Macross 7, and the Macross 7 haters come and start "sharing" their opinions about Macross 7, when really that has nothing to do with the topic. Then the Macross 7 defenders come up to defend the series and an argument starts and the thread is destroyed. By prohibiting the haters from starting the fight in the first place, the idea is that actual discussion about Macross 7 can occur. At least it's not cropping up in EVERY thread like it was for a little while. "Macross Plus is awesome!" "Yeah. Not like Macross7, which am TEH SUX!111"
  17. mIRC is an IRC client. Despite common belief, it's not the best one(IMO), or the only one, or the original one, but it IS the most popular one.
  18. That reminds me... Am I the only person that sees a certain Gundam style to Basara's valk? Obviously Gundams don't have mouths, but other than that...
  19. Chat rooms. Dun think MacrossWorld has an IRC channel. I wasn't sure why you asked about it, but figured I'd cover the bases.
  20. Hey, I was thinking that before anyone voted. I only mention it because the methodology of polls came up. Anyways, this one is as biased against Mac2 as Mac7.
  21. IIRC = If I Recall Correctly. IRC = Internet Relay Chat.
  22. And if you look at any poll, their not accurate since normally, they never actually take a complete sample. When you see news reports about polls saying this or that, notice that the sample group is significantly smaller when applied to the larger group. Margins of error are applied but it is still not a complete nor accurate poll. Phrasing of the questions also affects the answers. As an example... this poll's "neither" option. The "consumer whore" crack encourages people to choose one of the other 2 choices. ... Hypothetically, anyways.
  23. 50% of the people that have voted, which is... almost none of the membership. Anyways, assuming a statistically signifigant sampling, it proves my point nicely. Everyone doesn't hate Macross 7, which is the impression people get out of threads discussing Mac7. Even if we split the "hated Mac2" votes 50/50 because some of them just hated Mac7 LESS(though Mac7 threads lend the impression that it's impossible to hate anything more than Mac7), it's still only 2/3s that hate Mac7. Even if EVERYONE that hates Macross 2 also hates Macross 7 that sitll leaves a quarter of the board that DOESN'T hate Mac7. Which is still a far cry from "everyone but Keith hates Mac7, and he's just in the closet about it." Of course, that's all IF the poll is a statistically signifigant sampling, which at this point it isn't.
  24. Unfortunately, history has dictated that all M7 threads end like this. edit: At one time someone posted a light hearted story about M7 and how it inspired him/her (I think is was justvinnie from the old board). Then people come along and post the same usual "it sucks" stuff. Then the pro-M7 group counters, then the anti-M7 crowd comes back, and so forth. This is why people like Keith have stopped posting in these types of threads. As part of the pro-M7 crowd, am I arguing the merits of M7? No. Why should I? It just leads to endless debate which goes nowhere. Which is why all of these threads end up the same way. As long as blood pumps through the mighity veins of Agent ONE I will remind you all of my stance on M7... And why do some members quit posting their opinions!!?? Because they are worthless and weak, just like that pantywaste of a show they like. You mis-spelled pantywaist.
