I can see where it's a lot more appealing at that price level. And I wouldn't mind having one, really. EVERYTHING has a few games worth having. But the 32x was largely a joke. It was obvious it was going to be dropped almost immediatly when the Saturn came out. And in practice, it was stillborn because Sega couldn't spare the programmers from the Saturn to feed the 32x. Now if the 32x had upgraded a Genesis with a SegaCD up to a Saturn... THAT would've been something else entirely. Would've saved the loyal a good 200$(32x launched at 200, Saturn at 400, as I recall). But that would've been too much to ask.

SegaCD was NOT a failure. It is UNREASONABLE to compare SegaCD sales to those of standalone consoles, because it ISN'T a standalone console. It is an EXPANSION. It's ENTIRE available market consisted of Genesis owners, whereas a standalone console's market consists of everyone. It wasn't considered a failure until post-Dreamcast, when people started explaining how Sega was a total screwup that couldn't do anything right and was doomed from day 1. I'd say it was a failure. I owned one. I know how horrible it was lol I own one. Present tense. Wouldn't trade Eternal Blue for nothing. It sold well enough to be worth re-designing to match the Genny2 instead of abandoning. (In Japan, it actually sold the Genesis, but we're concerned with America here) Market penetration was slightly better than Final Fantasy 7, and I don't see anyone calling that a failure. And yes, it's a valid comparison, as FF7's market was totally restricted to PS1 owners, and the SegaCD's was totally restricted to Genesis owners. It makes no logical sense to compare add-on sales to standalone consoles. While not totally adequate, it makes more sense to compare them to software as they share similar market restraints. Sega sold 32x games? And for maximum confusion, there were 32x CD games. I own 3 of them, though I've never owned a 32x. Previous owner of my Genny had a 32x for a long time, and kept the games after it broke. ... I've never really understood why the SegaCD and 32x were treated as systems instead of add-ons until this moment. The word Genesis didn't appear on SegaCD games, and the packages, while the same style, had a large color-coded sidebar that announced in big letters what level of system they were for. Sega treated them largely as seperate systems, which did a lot to minimize confusion(though some is inevitable, no matter how clear it is).

I got a first-run Dual Shock too. First game was Lunar: Silver Star Story. Bought it at launch. Several months before I got the PS, actually.

I think everyone had long since forgotten the Game Gear. I'm sure the 32x and Saturn factored in a little bit, but it was largely just Sony fanboys. They were, actually. They were interested in bashing it. They'd talk about how ugly it was and how much better the PS2 was. Before the PS2 even had finalized hardware. And of course, in the continuing Sonyist revision, the DC is now known to have "no good games."

Did the TG16 come out on September 9th as well? 327454 Indeed. The PCEngine is raw sexiness. But NEC's attempts at selling it in America were just embarassingly bad. ... And they road it too long in Japan, and it died. The PCFX successor was hopelessly dated before it ever came out.

Well that's partially true. But Sega's reputation in the US was anything but good. After a number of failed consoles in the US, not many consumers/game companies/retailers had faith in Sega. A failed console and A failed expansion to a highly successful console. As far as I know, most of America is unaware that the Master System even existed.

Didn't the Energizer like totally own all the other vehicles though because it couldn't be hit and output an amazing amount of epilipsy? If only it did the same in the final episode. Sort of... You couldn't control it at all. It was impossible to lose points, but it was also impossible to GAIN points. And it DID shift between target mode and firepower mode, so it was possible to hit it. It just didn't take damage when hit, though the other guy scored a point. I object. No one looks better than Vader. Though Dread's certainly got a Vader thing going on. Got a bit of the Borg in him too. Don't forget... the sentai teams all have neon spandex. The Power team had shiny metal armor... well, plastic plates with metallic paint, but that's not the point. It LOOKED like armor instead of pajamas. So in conclusion... POWER ON!

I'm inclined to say the last inch or two is from "overscan" on the TV. Not REALLY overscan, since there's no scan, but they're pr'ly projecting the image a little larger than the screen surface, creating a similar effect. I assume from the version #s that you're using the card manufacturer's drivers(got too many decimals for it to be nVidia's). Dunno what options are or aren't available in the various variants, but nVidia's reference drivers have a screen adjustment option that might get you the last inch or 2. ... Or not. My GeForce2 only has position controls, not squish/stretch. Good luck!

Actually it's pretty much identical. GeForce4 MX IS a GeForce 2. And in terms of performance, it's just a hair better than the original GeForce2 MX. Needless to say, when people's GeForce 4s were performing equivalent to the bottom-end card of 2 generations ago, when they shelled cash out for a current-gen card, hell was raised. I hate when Windows trys to be helpful. I assume you mean under the monitor tab, where it says screen refresh rate? Not only is the box not checked, but it's (oh, what's the term...?) not available to be checked. Under the adaptor tab, where it lists info on the card, there's a "List All Modes" button. My choices are: 640x480, 256 colors, 60Hz 800x600, 256 colors, 60Hz 640x480, High Color (16-bit), 60Hz 800x600, High Color (16-bit), 60Hz 640x480, True Color (32-bit), 60Hz 800x600, True Color (32-bit), 60Hz (currently using this one) 640x480, 16 Colors, Default Refresh 800x600, 16 Colors, Default Refresh Under the nVidia tab, there is nothing useful. Mostly driver info, plus some options for full screen overlay that are blanked out. What the... *BOOM!* ... Sorry, too much Worms. But that's just farted up. I'm inclined to run with nemesis' suggestion. What version of the drivers are you running? *sniffles* Everyone has a better computer than me... ... Except video cards. My primary box has an FX5900 Blowdryer that I got free.

Well, considering most of those releases are ports of hentai dating sims, I don't know if I'd call it heartwarming. Still, it's nice to see the occasional release on the Dreamcast. Well, loin-warming is sort of the same thing... I don't see why it needed a DVD-ROM. The PROBLEM was that most of the people in America were brainwashed Sony lemmings that insisted that anything the Dreamcast had the PS2 did/would have more and better of. Even when it didn't. And we were/are the biggest market.

But the vast majority are 480p...720p tends to show up on...crappy games like...the freakin Hulk? 327336 Touche.

Excuse the double post, but... Your videocard SHOULD be able to do wide-screen resolutions. Hell, I'm running a GeForce 2 MX and it can do 'em. Somewhere Windows has an option to "hide video modes this monitor can't display." Find it and kill it. That will likely triple the number of resolutions you have available to choose from. And talking to a videophile... says your DLP is probably 1280*720 native resolution. So shoot for 1280*720 once you get your resolutions unlocked.

That's writables, though. Totally diffrent issue than read-onlys. Bah. They need to quit with the pre-rendered crap and get with the program. Real-time cutscenes for the win. XBox also does 720p, for the record.

I was under the impression that most widescreen TVs had an inverse-letterbox mode for the proper display of 4:3 images. There a reason you can't do that instead? It works pretty good. So would a ratty pile of 20-year-old speaker wire. We're dealign with DIGITAL signals here. Line quality is MEANINGLESS. Your signal is perfect or non-existant. There IS NO in-between. EVEN if that mattered, what store the cable came from is not important, merely the brand. You are indeed wrong. It doesn't take much RAM at all to get the GUI past 640*480*8. Not even a meg. Again you're wrong. My 2k and 98 boxes BOTH have the option of non-4:3 ratios. Hell, even before it was an OS Windows supported non-4:3 resolutions. 1280*1024 springs to mind as one that virtually everything supports. It's got very little to do with the OS, and a whole lot to do with video chipset and drivers. Wrong AGAIN. DVI and HDMI carry EXACTLY the same digital video signals. They are ELECTRICALLY IDENTICAL for this task. FURTHERMORE, HDMI accepts any signal of the appropriate encoding format, not just HDTV signals. 480i, while not HD in the least, is accepted through HDMI. You can even get signals GREATER THAN HD through an HDMI connector, though the odds that your specific TV is capable of dealing with them are somewhat low(possible, but not probable). ANY video card capable of going past 1024*768 has HD output. HD just means the image has 720 or 1080 lines of resolution. Nothing special there at all. If you have a TV with RGBHV inputs, you can buy a VGA->BNC cable and use that on ANY video card with an analog VGA connector. OR a VGA->BNC and DMI->VGA. But most TVs don't have RGBHV. They usually have component, DVI, and/or HDMI. If you go overseas they have RGBHV, but not through the 5BNC setup I was talking about. So it's fortunate we're dealing with DVI and HDMI here. As far as the 15-pin video port, that's a standard VGA connector. BUT DVI ALSO carries analog VGA signals on it. So AGAIN it's a matter of a small adapter. And how in the hell would changing OSes from Windows to Linux fix the absurd hardware limitations you claim exist(which, fortunately for enthusiasts everywhere, do not)? That is all.

At least the PS's D pad doesn't grind up my thumb the way the Dreamcast's did. I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was like the SNES's pad. 327291 And I would say that at least the DC's doesn't tear my thumb up like the PS' did. I've always hated Sony's pads.

That's why you always buy the second controller. Every console I've ever owned has two controllers. It's well worth it. Eventually, one controller will fail and you'll always have that second controller, which should probably last longer than the console itself 327246 I have 2 controllers. Just not of the same TYPE. I can't play Mars Matrix with a gamepad. My performance goes straight down the crapper. And my joystick was an HK knockoff, and has degraded to the point that the stick interferes with my reactions. Resistance varies with direction, and what should be fine motions aren't because I can't tap the stick with just the right amount of force. I have to slam it. That and the feel of the stick is throwing me off. And WHOO! We're leading the PS1 by almost 3 to 1 in posts!

I think Win95 launched in late '94. *looks it up* Nope. Came out August 24, 1995. And if you count in base 3, 6th anniversary is MORE signifigant than 10th.

So yeah... Dreamcast... 6 years old in the US. Great system, awesome games, totally under-rated, and lacking the dev-name of Katana. Discuss.
