Yay for politics. And I'm surprised Australian cops don't react to a toy gun being pointed at them. Given that there ARE illegally-owned guns in Australia, and likely more being smuggled in, I would think any responsible police organization would train it's officers on how to react when threatened with a firearm. Generally, they don't shoot people who are carrying what appears to be a gun, on sight. There's also much less of a gun culture here, so the occurance of weapons, real or not, appearing in public is much less. They don't here, either. As you noted, we have a larger gun culture, so it's more likely someone will have a gun out for reasons other than blasting someone. Overall, anyways. Things vary wildly from state to state(and even city to city in some cases). Australia's lesser gun culture means a visible gun is more likely to be a threat. Besides that, cops are by nature most likely to be where a gun IS a threat, regardless of geography. Which is why they're trained to assume a gun is real if they need to make a rapid decision. Doesn't matter if its one state or 50 states that have the neon gun laws. One state is enough for an image and public-relations concious company to make their toy gun product bright colours, or in the case of Classics Megatron, fake looking. Fair enough. Also lets them have one product nationwide instead of regular and California Special editions, which has obvious advantages in terms of production and distribution costs. Though fake-looking doesn't always cover it. The NES Zapper was recolored from gray to gray+orange when the initial laws went through. I think Cali changed the law recently, actually. I know the PS1 Time Crisis and Point Blank releases had big "not for sale in California" stickers slapped on them for a while. When the sticker disappeared, the GunCons had gone from gray with orange tip to orange all-over. But mainly, I was just pointing out it wasn't US law, and they COULD do a release that just wasn't available in California. But even if this DID seem like a good idea to someone, Megatron's one of the major players, so it'd be a bad idea to do it with him. I wish Megatron wasn't a gun, since a gun generally means a pretty crap robot with a non-sensical alt mode. Megatron has been a tank more times than gun by now. 397663 Sure it's non-sensical, but Transformers as a whole is farily nonsensical. I've liked several of the modern Megatron designs, and admit they make a lot more sense than a handgun. But I've got some nostalgia for this particular form of retardedness. And a politically incorrect side that delights in seeing this sort of thing just because it annoys the people ranting about violent toys and trying to get Prime and Megatron to go into counseling and resolve their diffrences peacefully(Transformers: Therapy. Sounds exciting). Besides, it's a gateway 'bot. If gun Meggy works out, maybe they'll do a nostalgized version of the almighty Shockwave(with electronic light and sound!). Shockwave was always a personal favorite, and he HASN'T made the transition to political correctness anywhere near as successfully as Meg(outside of the Alternators line, which surprised me with how well it worked).

The DVDs aren't Special Edition. They're a THIRD version of the movie. 397573 i asked this before but didn't get a clear answer. are the DVDs the same version as the VHS boxset i linked to? 397775 The NEW DVDs will be. Probably. The CURRENT DVDs aren't.

I would hope not, since there ISN'T AN ARCADE JOYPAD. And I still don't see how you can move anywhere NEAR fast or precise enough for decent shooter performance with an analog stick.

To further add on to what JB0 said, Macross II is not considered part of the "canon" Macross universe because Shoji Kawamorii didn't write it. Which isn't really relevant. It's non-canon because Kawamori banished it when he created the current continuity. If he hadn't come back to the license after Mac2 and laid out an official chronology(or if he'd decided to keep it anyways), Big West's initial stance that it was a sequel to DYRL would have stood, and Mac2 WOULD be canon.

Does U.n Spacy Mind Pilots Having Long, Dyed Hair?
JB0 replied to Phalanx's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ohh, OK. I didn't know that at first. I just assumed that she dyed it because she wasn't fond of her natural teal hair. Maybe a slight genetic defect perhaps? Or maybe your theory has more holes than a collander full of swiss cheese being shot up by a machine gun? Translation: Focker's hair was okay, but Max and Hikaru had to cut it all off. -
Hmm, that's interesting... I've seen BD-Rs for sale, and I'd just sort of ASSUMED the PC drives were available already. But I just checked, and it seems only the media has shipped. It's marketing. People seem to think that if famous person X does something, it's worth noticing, and if famous person X says something, they know what they're talking about. So if famous person X has a PS3, that means the PS3 is worth having. ... People are dumb.

*shuts off the BS meter* Thanks for the warning. Thing sent shrapnel everywhere last time they talked about hte PS3. Cool. Would be cooler if it didn't sound almost like plagiarism of discussions back when the "Revolution" controller was revealed.

Given that there ARE illegally-owned guns in Australia, and likely more being smuggled in, I would think any responsible police organization would train it's officers on how to react when threatened with a firearm. Only in California. Most areas merely require an orange tip. The US laws requiring toy guns to be easily identifiable, for the record, came about after some dimwit in California pretended to shoot a cop, who reacted as he was trained to do when someone pointed a gun at him. The time it takes to evaluate the whole situation when a gun is being pointed at you is enough to get you killed if it's a real gun. Adding neon orange helps a LOT, as it's a highly visible color that is used on very few real guns. California, being California, decided to take things a step farther than everyone else. I hate super threads, for the record. Too hard to keep track of all the diffrent topics, and not even the most noteworthy stuff makes it out of them. I see something about Masterpiece Starscream pop up, peek in here for details, and find out that Starscream's getting the Kawamori and MEGATRON IS A GUN AGAIN.

Does U.n Spacy Mind Pilots Having Long, Dyed Hair?
JB0 replied to Phalanx's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well that's because Miria's genes are more dominant that human genes since she's a Meltraedi so this epitomizes why their children have green or teal colored hair. Mylene just dyed her hair pink as a seemingly obvious clue that that's her favorite color since most women like pink as their favorite color. 397512 ...You hurt my head. -
Your position, as I read it, was "the battroid lasers are marketing flash with no actual utility." My response was DIRECTLY relevant according to that reading, as they ARE actually useful in combat. Gunpods run out of ammo. They run out fas. And when they do, it's nice to have something else to use. In other words, I said they had actual utility. Blow up? When? You may be confusing my naturally abrasive personality with genuine annoyance. Believe me, if I blow up, you'll know it. And I'm sorry, but we're on a message board dedicated to a cartoon about transforming jetplanes and 30-foot aliens, discussing the relative merits of a specific model of cartoon transforming jetplane. Where exactly does professional behavior become relevant in this equation? I had no intention of entering into a discussion on the level where words like "fallacy" were useful. If I did, I'd be participating in a formal debate. But I'm not, am I? I reiterate my belief that you're throwing fancy words around to make yourself look smart. You COULD have just said "that's got nothing to do with what I said." It gets the message across a LOT clearer than "You're quoting me, but you're talking along a very different vector and in so doing basically conducting a strawman." And yet, it means the same thing.

Put your pants back on. You at least wait until you have a date with the girl before you start stripping.

But not very realistic. You have to have an engine, a power source, and reaction mass for them. And there's just not space to stick all that in the wing segments.

What Changes, If Any, Whether It Be Big Or Small
JB0 replied to Phalanx's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ah I didn't know that. If the 1S doesn't allow you to see more than I guess the main advantage is just more lasers. (less overheating and faster firing rate?) I THINK on the cameras. Not sure. I know the green part isn't the actual sensor, but I'm not sure on the camera layout. Also possible the camera mount swivels, whouch would let the pilot look one way while "facing" another. I can't think of a real use for it, though. And yes, I AM contradicting myself now. But yeah, those would be the primary advantages of multiple lasers. Or fire them all at once for quad-damage. You can see that when Hikaru saves Misa from the destroyed Grand Cannon. Well the mouth opening up from a 'covering' might be like saying: I'm going to sing now so you better watch out. Like pointing a gun to a hostage to say, harm this guy and I will shoot! Haw. "OH NO! NOT PLANET DANCE! SWEET MERCIFUL ALTHENA, SURRENDER NOW!" -

What Changes, If Any, Whether It Be Big Or Small
JB0 replied to Phalanx's topic in Movies and TV Series
It might be that the different heads need more space and are generally higher quality. For example the head turret of the VF1S seems to have a wraparound visor while the J has widescreen and A has close to 4:3. If I recall, they show the cameras behind the 1S visor a few times, and it's not that diffrent. Remember, teh green part isn't a sensor, just a window. But the head has to be larger for the lasers. It's got to have cooling equipment for 2 on the J and 4 on the S. I'd stud the body with cameras, and provide a 360-wraparound view. ... Like the YF-19. Anyways, remove the centralized sensor suite, and you can't easily blind the pilot with one shot. Make the head JUST a laser turret. Both pretty good points. Also has a "lip" over the visor, which should make it harder to get a clean shot into the sensor window(have to be closer to straight line because it's recessed). Possibly outweighed by the large side sweep. And not really useful against the combat they were seeing most of(but it'd be good against lightly-armed opponents). Translation: I like the Sound Force Valks. Kidding. But I believe that WAS part of the argument behind the Sound Force design. -
HAHAHA!

That is incorrect. "Well, there's actually valid uses here. If you run out of gunpod ammo, you aren't restricted to the (presumably low-power) head laser. The wing lasers are larger and have more room for heat dispersion mechanisms, which generally means more power is possible" is DIRECTLY relevant to the quoted text. The tangental comment about the YF-21 and VF-17 is merely an observation about a weakness of the YF-19 design relative to other VFs. To conduct a strawman attack, I would have to actually present your argument as "The YF-19's lasers are better than the YF-21's and VF-17's lasers." I believe any rational person will find that I did no such thing. I could pick random fallacy names to throw back at you. Or I could just continue on with business as usual and not look for a way to take offense. I think I'll do the latter. Particularly as I'm not actually attempting to engage in a debate here, merely pointing out a practical use for large lasers in battroid mode. Throwing fancy words out doesn't make you look smart, especially when you misuse them. O NOES AD HOMINEM!111

Does U.n Spacy Mind Pilots Having Long, Dyed Hair?

Don't be presposterous. They CLEARLY banned anything over a quarter-inch long, or featuring un-natural colors. -
I've heard that battroid feet make an excellent replacement for tank treads, too. Well, there's actually valid uses here. If you run out of gunpod ammo, you aren't restricted to the (presumably low-power) head laser. The wing lasers are larger and have more room for heat dispersion mechanisms, which generally means more power is possible. The YF-21 and VF-17 forearm cannons are probably more useful, though. The greater range of motion should make it much easier to blast something in GERWALK or battroid. They're among the few VFs I think could be effective combat machines sans gunpod.
-
The YF-19 can. But they're lasers on the 19, not machine guns.

Yeah... Nintendo's sold the Metroid movie rights TWICE. I don't even want to THINK about how many times IronMan's been picked up. Just because someone purchases an option doesn't mean the project ever materializes.
