Bandai Gobots/Machine Robo Series Toy Thread
JB0 replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If they decide to pull a third drink from the same well, I do hope they go for a more explicit homage. Though ultimately I feel the mold cuts a bit too heroic an outline to really fly as Cy-Kill, it was a neat tip of the hat to that other line of robots in disguise. ... Or perhaps just too goofy an outline, depending on configuration. -

Bandai Gobots/Machine Robo Series Toy Thread
JB0 replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't know that this is really the right place, but it was brought to my attention that the modern Diaclone line has homages to some non-Diaclone toys... and that one of them is Machine Robo's Bike Robo. I'm going to make the argument that Diaclone Trirambler is an unlicensed third-party Cy-Kill, and this is appropriate for the thread. Mine is the "D-Caliber" repaint. The original seems to have had black where mine has blue, and blue where mine has red on the legs. It's a very teched-up sci-fi reimagining, but in bike mode it's very clearly Cy-Killing it. (There is an alternate transformation where the shoulders hinge down and the arms extend straight forward, but why would you want to do that?) Robot mode is much less directly evocative, but that seems par for the course(find pics of the new Battle Convoy for a weird mirror-universe Optimus Prime). Lots of features that homage the original, but still doing its own thing. The amber visor on the head is inspired by the original's headlight, the wheel-jetpack is a more "practical" version of wheeled shoulders, there's two small yellow bits next to a larger yellow bit in the chest(albeit the larger bit's a cockpit)... and so on. There's also a lot of alternate configurations that I do TakaraTomy a disservice by not mentioning, but they're irrelevant to my thesis. -

But how are we supposed to figure out how many invid it takes to scuttle an Imperial Star Destroyer if we can't argue about it?!

I mean, at least some thought was put into the, errr, facilities. How often is there just straight-up nowhere to poop and people simply don't produce waste?

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!

In fairness, mankind in Macross has learned one important lesson: if the protoculture left some dangerous ruins around, you NUKE IT FROM ORBIT instead of studying it to figure out how it works and if you can adapt it to your purposes. -
Because just like "unlimited data" means "25 gigabytes" and "digital" means "on the internet", "original" now means "regional exclusive" instead of "content developed by or for a specific network/service".

My mistake. I knew this was Marvel, didn't know it was under the Spiderman license.

Because clearly we need to be punished for not giving Disney our money.

Like they originally did with Darkwing Duck? That show was ahead of its time.

I mean, in fairness, the first movie had a lot of problems that had nothing to do with Roddenberry. The studio made all kinds of poor decisions(and was all too eager to beef right back at Roddenberry). I'm not saying Roddenberry was blameless, just... maybe only 20% of the mess was his fault?

And they flew the Enterprise shooting model across the V'Ger model in the original film. For all the movie's failings, going big was not one of them.
