The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next
JB0 replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I went by the local Wal-Mart earlier, figured I may as well check toys. Didn't expect much, but what I found was... One peg of movie Hound. Nothing else. This is why I quit looking for plastic robots. I'm happy to just wait for you guys to post pics. FAR less frustrating that way.- 16830 replies

Oh, the -25 DOES do something with heat? That's awesome!
-
Well, the heat has to go SOMEWHERE. And in the vacuum of space, there's few places that it can be thrown without lighting yourself up like a box of flares. Heck, even if just life support will still light you up. As Mr March noted, Macross is one of the few universes with a built-in excuse for where it would go, but they make no effort to explore this.

As far as visible stealth on spacecraft goes... it doesn't really help a lot either way, because you're still blazing a 50-foot neon "I AM HERE" sign in the infrared. Max and Millia kinda throws a wrench in the targeting by head module theory, as Max was flying a 1A at the time. It's debatable if Kamjin meant Max, Roy, or even Hikaru. The two wound up going toe-to-toe an awful lot, and Hikaru always came out on top somehow. Or, indeed, if he meant anyone. He may've just been trying to save face and piss Millia off. Blame the hidden ace and challenge her pride in one shot. ... I have a lot of trouble reading Kamjin, really.

Energy Conversion Armor (ECA), some gathered trivia
JB0 replied to Mr March's topic in Movies and TV Series
I want to emphasize I used hundred-fold as an example for illustrative purposes. I've got no idea what the actual difference is. -
Oh,m thank Macek! I was worried I wouldn't be able to buy out-of-print ADV disks anymore, or that I'd have to pay bargin-bin prices for Shadow Chronicles!

If they actually make a Rainbow Brite movie, I will be pleased ENTIRELY out of proportion to what they're doing.

Eventually we'll bump this thread enough that when news actually DOES arrive, people will ignore the thread because they think it's just been bumped again.- 2715 replies

"The Plundering Fleet" and "The Lost Two Years"
JB0 replied to DestroidsRage's topic in Movies and TV Series
Some kind soul once re-uploaded the Lost Two Years summary as a board attachment, so it's downloadable here. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=28565&p=699893 But it IS a summary. It's more a terse collection of facts than an actual narrative tale. -
That's what I said. I'd like the artbook. Moreso now that it's hit the "hardcover artbook" stretch goal, but I'm not sure. I do like that the signed boxes are "Not a limited tier, because IGA positively dares the world to wear out his signing hand." 'Tis a dare he will regret, I'm sure.

Energy Conversion Armor (ECA), some gathered trivia
JB0 replied to Mr March's topic in Movies and TV Series
Remember, these real-world lasers are damaging real-world hardware made of real-world alloys and driven by real-world engines with real-world weight limits. Also, missiles are very lightly armored next to the planes that fire them. Once you up the thrust a hundred-fold, putting more armor on everything becomes feasable. Even moreso when you ALSO have materials that are a hundred-fold more durable than anything we have now for the same weight. I think it's obvious why something that's super-powerful for the real world could kinda suck in Macross. -
I just felt the underwater sequence was really weird for a canonically air-breathing mech. I do admit that I forgot about the backpack rockets being, well, rockets, and thus anaerobic.

IN FAIRNESS, Trek is rarely consistent on an episode-to-episode basis. There's just DEGREES of wrongness. But yeah, beaming halfway across the galaxy is a special kind of special. That's worse than the Borg Queen was. (And no, there was nothing good about the Borg Queen. She completely shat on the ENTIRE POINT of the Borg.)

Gradius was terrible. Gradius V fixed the biggest problems. Speed powerups in that range from just fast enough to survive to just slow enough you won't careen all over the map before you crash into a wall. As opposed to "literally too slow to survive" and "almost literally too fast to control". And options maintain onscreen for recollection from a same-spot respawn, just like they did in Salamander, which was WAY BETTER than Gradius in every way. So of course people hated Gradius V because there weren't moai heads in it. Meanwhile, R-Type just gave you a user-controlled throttle and called it a day. Because that made SENSE. But the Gradius powerup system is a sacred and inviolable game mechanism that can never be altered in even the smallest of ways. Except when needed to shoehorn it into games that weren't even designed for it because you decided to ruin Salamander. But Contra's cool.
