And that it's cheaper to release an uncontested program than a contested one. Even if they CAN afford to fight HG, it doesn't make good business sense to pick up a license you already know WILL result in an expensive legal fight when you can just as easily get a license that DOESN'T involve an expensive legal fight instead. You have to believe the profits will offset the legal costs for it to make sense. And importing anime is not, by most counts, a high-profit market these days. Mech anime even less so. If I were in the anime localization business, I'd stay the heck away from Macross too. Even if the licensor is willing to pay the legal costs(and they likely aren't), it still ties my staff and resources up in a legal quagmire that I don't want to be in. I'm not happy about it, but... it's simply not a viable franchise, financially speaking.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

CRAP! That's what I was supposed to be watching alongside One Punch Man! -
I thought she had some sort of beam weapon at first too. Was trying to figure out how the blade attached to her quarterstaff, but no. It's Kylo Ren's sword held parallel to her scrap-metal staff.

The problem with US toy gun laws is there's a mishmashed patchwork of state laws ranging from "when I was a kid we didn't have any problems" on to "the entire thing has to be flourescent orange so you can tell it's a toy from low Earth orbit". I suspect Shockwave will not pass any US toy gun laws, especially not the stricter ones of California and New York. And with California and New York being huge markets... ... Hmmm. Research indicates that "bright purple" is an allowed toy gun color, at least at the federal level. But Astro Magnum coloration DEFINITELY won't fly, and probably not original toy coloration.- 17104 replies

But I want Shockwave purple, not Astro Magnum gray. Wait, does this mean TakaraTomy has a way to milk three distinctly different releases out of a one-character mold?- 17104 replies

You know, I'mma actually gripe about Shockwave briefly. I REALLY wish he was the darker purple of the toy instead of the more toon-accurate shade they're using. On the other hand, it's a testament to how GOOD that original toy was that they're using almost-identical arms and shoulders thirty years later(I see one added hinge, making the shoulder two-axis instead of one-axis). The legs, by contrast, are COMPLETELY different, but they were always the original robot's weak link.- 17104 replies

Just call it all "print" and you can never be wrong. Well, maybe visual novels, but it's debatably a proper term. -
I saw it in theaters too! ... When they did the 25th anniversary screening.

I question this. You shouldn't actually cool off THAT fast in space. It's not like jumping in a pool full of ice water, because there's no matter there to conduct heat away. You only cool down radiatively. Certainly, you WILL get damn cold, but in the near-perfect vacuum of space doing so FAST isn't an option. I have more issue with the idea he could make his flight suit close enough to airtight with just a thickly wrapped scarf around the neck. I'mma just pretend the scarf was actually duck tape. ape. It was still a terrible idea, though I grant it would seem less of one to a teenage boy trying to impress a cute girl.

I'm pretty sure you hit the nail on the head. Instead of a Fighter, it's a Variable Fighter, so VF instead of F. It slightly bugs me that YF in Macross is not YVF. But I'm sure I am overthinking this.

Also, they had to follow on from the first movie's ending. They readily admit they didn't WANT to do a future story with Marty's kid, but they HAD to because the first movie promised it.

I still can't be bothered to worry about canonicity. Maybe it's my Star Trek background, but I only care if iy's a good story, which canon has nothing to do with.

The shoulder pipe snakes? I have no idea, honestly.

And without the X-Wing books, we'd still call every droid by serial number. Seriously, it's rather shocking how fast writers started giving droids nicknames after Star Wars: X-Wing: Rogue Squadron came out. Overnight EVERY droid got a name.
