  1. The gold karat is closely related to the gemstone carat. It represents how many carats(with a c) of gold would be in a chunk of this alloy of a given size. The size, as it happens, is that of a german gold coin that was in use a millennium ago. That weighed 24 carats. And it was common enough at the time that it became a standard unit of measure for gold. And in an attempt to be on-topic: I keep calling Hayate "Alto". I don't really know why.
  2. Well, the thing that stuck with me most was he was adamant that it was an original movie and not an Alien tie-in. And then when it came out it was not just a blatant Alien tie-in, but the MOST blatant Alien tie-in possible. My understanding is that Ridley Scott is not, generally, a bald-faced liar. That more than anything is what makes me think the studio deserves blame.
  3. Prometheus, I suspect, saw a lot of studio meddling. It would not be the first time Fox completely crapped up an Alien movie by handing to a committee much of the authority that ought be vested in the director.
  4. Gotta remember, mainstream Nintendo characters are reaching a MUCH wider market than the typical Figma release. I'm not saying the rest of the line is bad or anything, just that Nintendo has a global mainstream appeal that most of their other releases lack.
  5. Sounds like a good reason to get the tools and widen the hole a tad. 'S an easy fix, though whether it should be necessary at that price point is another issue. So true. So very true.
  6. "Would you like what's behind door number one, door number two, or door number three?" "This is a trick question, isn't it?" "Yeah. They're all laser cannons." "Worst gameshow ever! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
  7. I think I'm going to call him Brain-man myself now.
  8. I don't see the problem. The all-white is gorgeous, gives it a real sci-fi vibe.
  9. Don't be silly. Macek was a writer, he didn't do mechanical designs. There's no reason not to give a shoutout to the designer of Robotech's most enduring veritech.
  10. In fairness, they DO put pilots in the most heavily-armored part of the machine instead of sitting with their face against a glass bubble.
  11. I just reviewed it, and there's definitely a laser striking the red panel I believe to be the cockpit door and scything up across it.
  12. In fairness, EVERY song in Seven at this point was a solo.... and I think this is about the point in Seven where I was just starting to get a little tired of Planet Dance and wondering if Basara had a second song. But yeah, I don't really care for Walkure's singing. I would be happier with a wall of Mikumo solos.
  13. Because Team Fortress with anime characters is better than Team Fortress without anime characters. I'm skipping it. I love the game's visual style, but I'm a solo gamer. Deathmatch is the least interesting part of a FPS, and a game that is ONLY deathmatch is an automatic no-buy.
  14. Objectively, that car is ugly as sin. Subjectively, my inner child is just screaming "wow, that's an AWESOME SPACE CAR I NEED IT"
  15. Metal Ball. Come on, you know you want it. Buy a few of 'em, just so you can make endless jokes about your Balls of steel. Seriously, it is why I still have a cup of computer mouse components I gathered back in the day when mice had rollers.
  16. I make no statement either way regarding quality. Just that the polarizing effect the show's premiere had is one more way Seven Did It. LISTEN TO HIS SONG!
  17. I didn't say it was worse than Seven. Just that it is generating the same complaints repeatedly, like Seven used to.
  18. Honestly, I thought it was everyone realizing that a subscription model is VERY lucrative and trying to get a piece of that pie. Everyone is trying to set up some form of subscription, preferably autorenewing so they can roll in the free money when people forget to cancel it. I've seen a friggin' Android notepad application with a subscription service.
