  1. Latest episode of Jojo was the best thing ever. The evil villain's cunning master plan was
  2. Initially, yes. The concept has grown a lot since Space War 1, and packs are now treated as just a way to offer one plane that can be configured multiple ways.. It varies from valk to valk, and sometimes with pack set on the same valk. Some packs are more aerodynamic than others, with a few being positively formhugging(The Plus valks spring to mind).
  3. That explains quite a bit, actually. I hadn't realized the whole story was that complex. I thought it was just "smutty pinups are making me more money than narrative works". I do remember reading an interview back at the turn of the century where he mentioned his comics sold better in America than Japan, which pretty much guaranteed that overall sales were low(especially for the era, where the manga market was much smaller than it is today), so I am not SURPRISED that smutty pinups made him more money than "proper manga". It kinda blew my mind at the time because Ghost was A. friggin' awesome and B. kind of foundational anime fan content in the US for quite a while. In hindsight, it would be far from the only time that America has liked wildly different anime and manga than Japan. It is almost like they are two different countries!
  4. Pandora is... ummm... it's a thing. I am distinctly NOT on record as having recommended it, even if it amused me. I shall accept neither blame nor praise. Just sayin' that Shirow still writes sci-fi from time to time, in some capacity. I remember the Major using much more level-headed guns in the movie, though it has been several years. I recall being distinctly disappointed she didn't have some crazy Seburo SMG.
  5. Ahhh, that scene. Still not present in the US editions, though the dialog around it makes reference to it in recent editions. There's a lot of overlap between the comics and the movie. The movie adapts several stories from the comic into an overarcing story. It just adapts them to be much more serious and philosophical while it is at it. And I won't lay the blame squarely on Oshii, because a Ghost movie that stitched several chapters together was going to either wobble a lot in tone or rework a lot of chapters to be far more serious. It doesn't have the time for both smart-mouthing pranksters AND deep introspection. It just happens to match the tone of my least favorite part of the comics. ... But I can blame Oshii for the lack of awesome Seburo SMGs! What's with this "using real-world guns" nonsense?!?! My guess? Combination of a fondness for the female form and porn being good money. He's also done more than one sci-fi porn artbook. Best of both worlds, right? And in fairness, he laid the groundwork for Pandora in the Crimson Shell, then handed it off to someone else for actual production. If I recall, he didn't think he could keep it lighthearted and fun like it is supposed to be.
  6. I think playful is a fair word, actually. Short version: She behaves pretty casually when not engaged in business. When actively on the job, she's totally serious, and has been mistaken for a robot at least once(she flicked the guy off immediately afterwards). And if it sounds like tone and characterization is a bit wobbly in the comics, well... I'm not gonna lie. Shirow has a lot of trouble deciding if he's writing drama or comedy at times.
  7. Just FYI... you can't hotlink or embed images on forbes.com. They block it. All anyone sees is a file name.
  8. Not under the Macross name, as HG has a clear trademark on that(fair or not). I have doubts it would work at all, given the legal history of the franchise. Commercializing Macross products in the west is toxic due to HG's known litigiousness. No one wants to wade into that mess, no one wants to even tempt the possibility that HG may notice. Sure someone like, say, Bandai-Namco could afford to go toe-to-toe with HG and sort this out. But the question is... why would they WANT to? It would be a lot of additional expense for a release with no visible guarantee it will be worth the cost. Why bother when you could spend that time and money on other games that AREN'T lawsuitbait? Sure someone could sell the game as Space Battle Delta instead of Macross Delta(with all the insufferable whining about censorship it would spawn). But would HG ignore this, or claim they were trying to do an end-run around clear intellectual property and exclusive rights and derivative works? Whether the claims are groundless or not is irrelevant, it is a big pain in the butt that no one wants to risk blowing up in their face(and that is a terrible mixed metaphor).
  9. I like how the assumption is it went from "everybody dies horribly" to "epic fantasy hero saga". Personally, I'm assuming it went from kinda dark to a shade or two less dark but still far darker than usual. And hoping for: reshooting to add more Kyle Katarn.
  10. I wouldn't say the comics were jingoistic, but there is very little of them that matches Oshii's tone and focus. The movie does hit more or less the right tone for the puppetmaster arc, I admit. But for the most part, there is much less introspective moping. The major is not in general prone to self-contemplation, more prone to brushing aside any attempt to encourage such behavior.
  11. I had such high hopes for Scarfish's pivotal role in the series, too. Maybe he'll fill in for Messer while the latter is grounded for excessive Var.
  12. I assume it is a rough sketch of a design, just because chibi-Mirage doesn't have cleavage. I choose to believe it's an adorable little rabbit. I actually thought she was holding mitten-hands up at first, but no, I don't see arms connecting to what I thought were mittens.
  13. I have a Rock Lord. Sure enough, it turns into a plastic rock. It actually makes a neat-looking robot, for all the crap the line gets about the altmodes.
  14. Doomguy is Baymax? THAT'S a plot twist I didn't see coming.
  15. Man, Hayate and Mirage have already formed a combat pair. Freyja should just bow out now, because she can't win against wingmates even if her fold waves DO make him resonate.
  16. Hayate should have an arrow pointing off him towards the clear blue sky. Because let's be honest here, his only feelings are for the wind(he is clearly part windemerian).
  17. Fold bacteria originate out of Frontier, if I'm not mistaken. Laser makeup has roots in DYRL, I think.
  18. That is pretty cool. I wish Screwhead R. Drilltank was "shinier", like the G1 toy. Glossy paint and a metallized drillhead. I also like the bigger teeth on the original drillhead. But other than that... there's nothing I see really wrong with him aside from size.
  19. I love the titles. "Creator" "Artist" "VP of marketing" One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong. Can you guess which thing is not like the other by the time I- it's the marketing guy that has no creative efforts to show. Tommy Yune is still with HG after the Kickstarter fiasco, right? Put his butt in the chair. He may've been BAD at creative endeavors, but he at least HAD some.
  20. The gold karat is closely related to the gemstone carat. It represents how many carats(with a c) of gold would be in a chunk of this alloy of a given size. The size, as it happens, is that of a german gold coin that was in use a millennium ago. That weighed 24 carats. And it was common enough at the time that it became a standard unit of measure for gold. And in an attempt to be on-topic: I keep calling Hayate "Alto". I don't really know why.
