I really love the B2 Megatron. I have the Classics one, and every time I look at him, I pick him up and start trying to transform him. Then I remember why I never try to transform him. Hopefully this one is a lot more fun to play with.- 9167 replies

I would've SWORN they already did the Bismark/Ramrod, but I'm apparently crazy. Orbots ain't happening. They are JUST different enough from Godmars to require new molds, and there's just not enough interest to make it a profitable venture. That... may be true for Bismark/Ramrod as well, but some of the things that HAVE made the list are niche enough that I have to believe this one's a viable product idea. Either way, Bandai doesn't need to reissue Voltron for more money. Aside from being Bandai, they've found that revisions, repaints, and reissues of Mazinger Z are a free ticket to profitville, so there's something like twelve of them in the line. Any time they need a new infusion of cash, BAM, Black Mazinger! Mazinger with chrome legs! Mazinger with longer legs! Mazinger with a new waist piece! Et cetera et cetera. (Not that there hasn't been new engineering done, too. Just... that engineering could've been spent on a NEW robot instead..)

No, it isn't fun. I read End of the Circle. EVERY generation is full of pricks. It is a miracle we've survived as long as we have, as a species.

Oh, yeah, taking Gunther along was a dick move, assuming there was anything of the original man left inside after he was turned into a meatpuppet. I actually forgot about that. I assume the EVIL series that drew them into the dimension in the first place ALSO had brains before becoming the protodeviln. They took those bodies with them when they left, too. Perhaps not STOLEN bodies, given they were forced into them, but... definitely loaners.

Thing I don't get about Star Citizen hype is how many OTHER space sims have come and gone since the hype train started that went completely ignored. And not just Elite: Dangerous. Hell, Starwraith has started, completed, and shipped Evochron Legacy since the Star Citizen kickstarter, and he is ONE PERSON. There's even a new Wing Commander in WC Saga(and how they managed to not get sued by EA I will never know).

Apparently. Personally, I think it is a conspiracy. HG is using their real estate money to buy the comic books to make it LOOK like someone is reading it.

Finders keepers, right? More seriously, wasn't the whole protodeviln thing only ever a problem because they COULDN'T leave? I mean, it isn't like they just woke up one day and said "why don't we go to another dimension and possess some genetically-engineered bioweapons for the lulz".

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
JB0 replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Delta is the new 7. Whatever the conversation, no matter how tangental, some version of "but Delta sucked" has to be worked in somehow. At least they aren't vilifying the people that like Delta. I enjoyed about half of Delta, personally. Unfortunately, the plot threads I was interested in were abandoned rapidly, and the series moved into a holding pattern at about the halfway point that it never really recovered from. -

Hey, people on Mars is important too. I'm embarrassed that it's taken fifty years and a wealthy billionaire to make any meaningful progress towards it since we set foot on the moon, but... progress is progress. 'Sides, there's plenty of cheap cars. None affordable for 99% of the population, mind you. I don't think you CAN get 99% coverage with existing regulations and wages. If you can legally put a new car on the street for a half a grand new, you need to start doing this. You will be rich like Elon Musk.

KumaStyle: That is a SUPER-sexy Megatron. Not G1 toon-accurate, obviously, but... it has the FEEL of a Megatron. Powerful, with an air of dignity and aloofness, and a big flippin' arm-gun just in case someone dares to defy him. Which Meg is it?- 9167 replies

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
JB0 replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
If I recall, it is HIGHLY unclear what, if any, relation the "modern" Sv units have with the Zero machines. And no, they are two completely independent and unrelated anti-UN movements. -

Aaaactually, the Sv-51's fuel issue was because it used jet engines instead of harnessing the power of the atom(just like the VF-0). So the Sv-52 wouldn't have fuel issues. -

Honestly, my opinion on MP-36 hinges(no pun intended) entirely around how fiddly and complex he is. There is a point where your engineering is too clever, and MP Megatron II is WELL past that point. A less complex toy that is easier to transform would better serve most people. Or a non-transforming articulated figure, if we are honest about what most of us are going to do with him. Everything else is better than MP Meg II by virtue of being less than 50% hinge by volume.- 9167 replies

Even the VF-1 is wildly durable by modern standards. I think the original Valkyrie's armor is supposed to be superior to a modern main battle tank. And Britai kinda tore through it like cardboard. That's sorta like beating the crap out of an Abrams with a crowbar, and ACTUALLY destroying it. ... And then the VF self-destructed in Britai's face, and he just got up and dusted himself off. He's PRETTY DARN TOUGH. -
Except for the fact that Golion was worthless. Remember, it bombed horribly in Japan. Golion really only has commercial value as Voltron, and the only reason to hold onto it would have been so Toei could shake WEP down for money every so often. It probably wasn't worth the effort.* As I understand things, every time WEP did something with Voltron, Toei popped up and went "You know, your license doesn't actually allow that." and WEP went "Crap, sorry, thought it did. Can we buy an exemption?". And finally, both parties were sick of it. WEP just called one day and went "Look, we're both sick of paying our lawyers to renegotiate. What does it cost to just BUY Golion off of you? No sublicenses, no limited extensions. We want everything. Lock, stock, and barrel. The whole kit and caboodle. Work with us here. " and Toei just went "Wait, you actually WANT Golion? We thought you were messing with us all these years. Why would anyone... never mind. Yeah, sure, by all means. Make us an offer." And now WEP owns Golion, and they can make as many sequels, adaptations, and remixes of lion Voltron as they want. And they can negotiate with Bandai to make Soul of Chogokin Goliontrons. Toei, meanwhile, cashed a nice check, and probably made more off of Golion in one shot than they've earned to date since it originally aired. Even considering the long-running WEP license. *This is not dissimilar to Tatsunoko's response every time HG asks about renewing the Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross license, except Toei pays better attention. Apparently, every time they talk HG has to remind Tatsunoko that yes, you guys DO actually own Southern Cross and yes, we really want to extend our license. One wonders what it would cost HG to buy Southern Cross outright, but THEY don't really want it either. The existing Robotech: Masters Saga episodes are more of a necessary evil thing.

If I recall, that was how Hayate got his jetbot in episode 1 of Delta. Injured pilot was removed, and he climbed in through the still-open hatch. -

I just thought I'd put it out there because it is the sort of crazy engineering that makes life better for the knowing of. According to Wikipedia, the ultimate arbiters of truth(if not actually fact), it was last messed with in the 90s by NASA, who retrofit it to the F16XL prototypes. Which brings us kicking and screaming back to the ACTUUAL topic, since I believe the F-16XL was an inspiration for the VF-11MAXL.
