I bet you would feel different if you did not have weathering skills that surpass Yamato's. Heck, even being a collector, if I had your talents and could "re-create" Yamato's designs I would be happy with my custom fighters. Especially seeing that yours look better. Beyond that, if I didn't have the funds I would do a few commissioned jobs to purchase one of Yamato's then lay low. As good as yours are, who knows, they might become desirably the next best thing. You never know.

Even the weathered Roy? I doubt it. Maybe you could purchase two at that price. Store one away and customize the other. I feel you on being a completist vs. being a collector. I guess I fall some what in between. I'm working on the 1/48's right now, but I am finding it hard to shell out more money for the DYRL's. The only one I will probably get is Kakizaki. Outside of that I want the 25th Anniversary 1/48. Not too crazy about the 25th Anniversary, but I do want it as part of my collection. By the way, you never answered my question about your Stealth YF-19. Would love to add something like that to my collection. We need to talk.

I agree. Ghostkiller's custom weathered Roy knocks Yamato's out the box, but it will never have the collectibility of Yamato's. For some of those who want it, myself included, the reason is for its collectibility. I used to collect Thomas Blackshear figurines. I paid $400.00 for this one figure the summer of 2000 called "Oh No She Didn't". It was retired after 4500 pieces were made. A few years ago the asking price for the figurine was $4000-$5000, but it can be purchased for under $3000 today. My point is there are figurines out there that far outdo the "Oh No She Didn't" one that are significantly lower in price, but it doesn't change the fact that the figurine will always be one that will be highly desired by collectors. Kind of like the low vis 1. I have to believe most everyone here is a collector and if they were in a position to cop a highly sought after fighter they would do it in a heartbeat. I'm not sure what to make of comments like "I'd save my money for something else", "I've seen better", "It's not worth it", or "I wouldn't pay that for it!". I believe it's a bunch of bologna. Ask yourself, if someone had one for sale right now for $50.00 would you buy it? If you answer yes then I am convinced those with all the negative comments in regards to Yamato's weathered Roy are making statements out of spite because they are not in a position to pay what they are going for, or for their own personal reasons not willing to pay the astronomical price. I have never seen the credit card Valk, but if one came up for sale I would certainly be interested in it. Not because I particularly like or don't like it, but because I am a collector. I say lighten up. If a guy is willing to spend his hard earned cash on something you might feel is particularly foolish, then he's the fool. It obviously is not a problem with him if he's willing to do it. If one day the weathered Roy is plentiful and available, it will be his loss. If not, it will be his gain, but don't hate on him for jumping at the opportunity to cop the fighter today.

My sentiments exactly Squidd. Especially seeing that there's a "false" sense of collectibility for those who are in it just to make some money. Who knows how rare, if at all, these might become. But I sure wouldn't feel bad if I had shelled out close to $600 for one. I can't imagine what they will go for on Ebay now.

From one married collector to another I can totally relate. That being said, I CAN appreciate what you have done. It's sort of like watching a one-armed guy play basketball (if that makes sense ). My collection has been confined to my office which is cool with me. I feel that's the appropriate place for it, plus it keeps curious visitors from touching them. Anywho, I noticed all the dynamic poses and didn't give much thought to how you achieved them, but knowing that you pulled them off with flexi stands has sold me using them to display my 1/48's when I get my case built. I'm using an open face design with large panels from the company below. I plan on doing some supsended poses using hooks and fishing line. I don't know if I have seen all the collections here, but I have not seen any suspended poses. With 16" x 16" glass panels that should give me plenty of space to get creative with 2-3 fighters. Check the link below and scroll down to glass displays and accessories. Reasonable prices in my opinion and I have even seen 9 cubicle designs for sale on Ebay for around $160.00 shipped, but they are made with the 12" glass panels. http://www.buystorefixtures.com -

Thanks Ryno, and no doubt with they posted up once I get them displayed. I have a website that I am going to use to build my display case. I would love to cop the Ikea Detolfs because they have doors and they are so cheap, but I am going to have to go with an open face design with larger areas for displaying because this manufacturer offers 16" x 16" glass panels and larger. I plan on buying just the glass and hardware and building my own base for my display. I'll stain my base to match my office furniture. I also have some cloth Macross wall scrolls I've been checking out to frame for my office since I am unable to find any decent are or posters. I will be posting when it's all done and complete. -

Thanks, stealth parts came from fellow MW member Godzilla. His collection is hideously ridiculous! Hit him up. He might have something he's willing to part with...trust me...the guy probably won't miss it as large as his collection is. Besides that, the items I have purchased or traded with him are minty fresh as if they have never even removed from their orginal shipping packaging. -

I don't know. It's obviously an awesome collection, but for me it's hard to appreciate it with so much going on. To each's own, but for me I prefer the simplicity of a few fighters displayed together or maybe just one by itself. -
If you were in this to make some money you could buy purchase a few Roy's, weather'em up, post'em on Ebay stating "Weather Slip Cover Not Included" and doozy up some cash real fast. Looks just Yamato's, only better or more authentic looking. Will you offer to weather our Roy's for a fee if Yamato's doesn't become widely available?

Damn, I wish I would have won that bid.! 4-5-6 will forever be in my brain. My instincts were right. This thing was prepped to become an instant classic.
-
I had given some thought to the sharkteeth or gear like mechanisms for the shoulders too, but that limits the poseability as the arms would move in only two directions; probably back and forth. The rubber inserts would give a more full range of motion I think.
-
Well, has limp noodle shoulders been a complaint or am I the only one whining about the ball joints in the shoulders becoming "slippery" and loose?
-
Any recommendations for DYRL? I've been looking to buy it, but I am not sure which has the best english subtitles; that's if there is more than one version.
-
I wonder how difficult it would be to pop the arms off a 1/48 or 1/60 and place a thin rubber piece into the socket to give it some grip so that the arms hold their position better.
-
Man, your guess is as good as mines . I have the slightest idea where my mind was at. Maybe on that hip hop group from the late 90's DMS...Who knows. You're right though, it would be LSS or DSS. Maybe liMp had me thinking LMS...gotta get my bat utility belt re-upped with some brain boosting pellets.
-
There may already be a thread related to this topic, so lock it or whatever if it one exisists. Otherwise, what would you guys like to see fixed on the upcoming transforming Valks from Yamato? I'll start it off with asking for the rubber inserts for the shoulder ball joints like the ones in the hips of the 1/48's. I believe that would make for better arm poses and prevent what I consider "LMS or DMS" or limp or dead shoulder syndrome.

What about Graham...
-
Yep. Heck, I wish I understood Japanese. I would buy a time share in Japan just to shop and visit twice a year.

Eugimon, you're cooler than the other side of the pillow. Let's know when and if you're able to make this happen. I most definitely in it for one. Thanks!

Let's be friend eugimon. That way your friend can get your friend a weathered Roy.

It's the mystery of it I guess. I do not know. I'm just guessing. It's one of those toys that just might end up extremely rare and people are willing to pay a premium for it. If we think about it, don't people ask us all the time "You paid what for that toy?!?!?" When we want what we want we are willing to go to any lengths to get it. Ever been in love or thought you were in love with a female and did some things you would never do under normal circumstances? Hey, it is what it is and when we develop tunnel vision it's hard to explain why we do what we do to get to the prize.

Ha! Miriya! You speak toddler very well man! I can sooooo relate! My son considers the desk in my office the repair shop. When he's popped an arm or leg off one of his transformers he stages them on my desk for me to fix. He thinks I can fix anything! If only that were true! Watch Miriya, the older he gets the more he will begin to emulate you. That's why I want to get a case soon, so he can start appreciating his Transformers the way I appreciate my Macross stuff. I've been buying duplicates of all his stuff just in case though. At $10-$20 each they're affordable enough to do it. Maybe I'll present them to him on his 16th birthday if his interest is still peaked. Then he can officially start collecting. Otherwise, I'll just hold on to them on GP. -

Just you wait misterryno. My son and I do everything together. Heck I invested over $500 bucks in professional barber clippers to give him a professional haircut each week while creating more bonding time. Children just change your life man and it can't be put into words. If I died tomorrow my wife knows the significance of my collection and that she would keep it it pristine condition for my son until he turns 18. It's his to do what he wants then. It's because of my son that my interest has been sparked back into the toys and all. I got him this thing called the V-Bot for Christmas, but after my wife saw how over protective of it I was, she placed it high up on a shelf in my office. She could tell I didn't want him to break it because he couldn't appreciate it for what it was. It's a full function radio control car that transforms into a robot at the push of a button then dances and moves to his own music. After seeing the Transformers movie back this summer and the toys he got for Christmas. It's a spectacular thing re-living your childhood through your children. I had to show my son the original Transformers series on YouTube and he absolutely loved it! I think I enjoyed it more than he did. I saw Jetfire and thought to myself I bet I can find one one Ebay! When I searched Ebay, I saw all this "Macross" stuff and thought man there's no way I'm giving $200.00 for some "knock-off" Jetfire Transformer; WTF is Macross??? . Then I started seeing the Robotech stuff and it that's when the light came on. I've seen plenty of mint Jetfires that I could have purchased for what I have given for some of my Macross fighters, but knowing that it all began with Macross, Jetfire is just kind of out of sight and out of mind right now. Once I have satisfied my Macross appetite, I will look for a mint Jetfire then start looking for my next collection...Gatchaman, Battle of the Planets...or what we knew them stateside as...G-FORCE!!! Trannnsss-Mute!!!!!!!
