Thanks for going through the work of getting that. My only issue is, to me personally, I care more about what the original creator/designers/concept generators had in mind, than what the final animation studio interpreted that to be. Very often you see the animators or episode writers completely butcher what the designers and creators intended.

I assumed the same thing about the "dive." Figured, in the story, the second fleet had only Legiosses and TREADs/TLEADs and MOSPEADAs because it was all about re-entry to the Earth's atmosphere. The MOSPEADA was really for if something went wrong on re-entry (well, I guess not re-entry, but entry, since they were arriving on Earth for the first time).

Somewhat demeaning to MOSPEADA...

Never knew it was an acronym. Of course, that artwork for an updated MOSPEADA listed the TLEAD/Tread as now being Dread, but the Legioss was still Legioss.

So, knowing what we know of Engrish, what the heck was "Legioss" supposed to be?

Got you beat. I'm 33, so probably right in the average age of people here, but we didn't have a VCR at the time, so... I raced home to hold my tape deck up to the tv and record the audio. Yeah, to this day, I have half of Robotech: New Gen and Transformers season one still packed away in my brain, memorized line by line, with all the right pauses and sound effects...
-
I was, I think, in 3rd grade. I remember watching and enjoying Robotech. However, I remember VERY VERY clearly, as though it was yesterday, when I watched the first episode of Robotech: New Generation... seriously, I can barely explain what an impact that had on me.
-
Not that it's really MOSPEADA, but the Robotech comics (various incarnations) have had many references to the destruction of the town after episode 8.

Viper's Creed Thread (can we make it official?)
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just watched episode 2 with the subtitles. Ok, have to admit, as disappointed as I am with this show from the episodes I've watched while unable to understand the dialog, now that I can fully understand what is going on, I think it may be building towards something interesting. It's just building VERY slowly. -

That is one figure that REALLY doesn't look right without the metallic glossy paint. -
I can see that. Thanks for the info. That kind of fits in line with one of the original ideas of the series, where everyone who has been living on Earth while the Inbit have been there has slowly been developing minor forms of telepathy from exposure their presense. I think the only hint of this that made it through to the final series was Ray's (and yes, that's how I insist on spelling his name, Engrish be damned) dream episode, with the knights and dragons, and where he discovers some of the Inbit secrets in his dream.

Let's also keep in mind a couple of things: 1) The movie designs are pretty much done by the graphic artists and SFX people of the movie. It is then up to the engineers at Hasbro to try and figure out someway to make it actually do, in real life, what it does with computer graphics magic in the movie. 2) Even with the prices on these new Transformers going up, I get a solid toy where all the pieces go together and snap in nicely, all the pieces are painted correctly, I can drop it and it won't break, and I can let my son play with it and not worry about it getting broken. Now I look at my $80 Robotech Masterpiece Collection Alpha fighter... not even close... my $150 Robotech Masterpiece Collection Beta... closer... My $100 Megazone 23 Garland... eh... It's funny, I think it's insane to pay $100 for Devastator, knowing full well that it will be a solid, well-designed toy, yet I just paid $200 for a Masterpiece Cyclone that may not even fit together and be too fragile to do anything with other than display.
-
I own this, but don't remember this part. Can you refresh my memory? Is this something along the lines of the Megazone 23 background story that explained the war that went on between Earth and Mars, leading to the creation of the Megazones?
-
Actually, the creators said that their main influence for this series was the D-Day invasion and the various activities in Normandy and other parts of France and Europe during World War II. Being a bit of a WWII history buff (got that from my dad), this is probably also a big part of my love for the series.

Having loved Robotech's New Generation as a kid, I recently picked up and watched Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. I absolutely loved it. Yes, what some people up above are saying about some things being unrealistic are true (though that's the case in probably 98% of anime). Yes, some of the episodes are either just silly or plain dull. Yes, I think it would've been better if done as originally intended (without the Legioss and Tread, and much darker and more military in mood). On the other hand, the Legioss and Tread combining is still just plain awesome to me (I keep my Toynami Alpha and Beta always attached when displayed)... the transforming bikes, seen at the age of 8 or 9, probably had a huge deal to do with my love of motorcycles now and career in engineering... and, honestly, there is something very cool about colonists coming back to their homeworld to free it from an alien invasion, and having to form an underground resistance army (probably why my favorite Exo-Squad episodes are the resistance ones on Earth).

AMEN, BRUTHA! Love MOSPEADA, Megazone was good, Bubblegum Crisis had some good moments (and some that just weren't for me). Viper's Creed, so far, is pretty disappointing. Rideback is really surprisingly good.

No, they were just based on his comics. He DID, however, direct The Spirit (which I haven't seen yet but, good or bad, I know was a major labor of love for him).

Mine says the 24th. All the stuff I've gotten from there takes forever to arrive from Cali to Mass. -
The flipside being, a guy with an art/comic book background thinking he can write and direct.
-
Don't you remember? He DIRECTED Shadow Chronicles... LOL
-
Haven't seen any comic activity, through Wildstorm or otherwise, in a couple years now either.

Anyone who preordered a Beagle/Toynami Cyclone on Robotech.com received a shipping confirmation yet? There were supposed to ship yesterday, but I still haven't heard anything. -

TRANSTECH!!!!! -
And, between the 3 movies, there would be plenty of material to work with (though it would probably be best to either make a first game out of part 1, or make it take place somewhere encompassing part 1 and 2, with material in between).
-
I've had my eye on that game for a while. Looks fun. Only thing is it goes for like $40 on eBay, and even then it's for the Japanese PS1.
