Robotech: Shadow Chronicles Problem
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That wasn't done by Harmony Gold themselves? I remember when Robotech.com used to post an April Fool's joke on their site every year. -
Think someone can pull off a design combining Aramaki's designs on MOSPEADA, Bubblegum Crisis, Megazone 23, and Viper's Creed? Other than ignoring the flying transforming speeder thing in Gall Force: Eternal Story, am I forgetting any transforming Aramaki bikes?

Thanks

Houquet resin kit. I've never seen it before, but maybe someone else on here has. Not really sure what to think of it, other than I doubt it's worth the money. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...T&viewitem=

Oh, I know, and that's also why I think they lend themselves nicely to mixing and matching of designs... ... and all look really nice on my shelf (well, the ones that have been made into toys, and that I've been able to afford anyway)! I really LOVE that man's designs.

The Toynami/Beagle Rand is up for preorder on Robotech.com. Says it's shipping in May, so probably the Beagle will be in early May, and the Toynami will be mid June, like happened last time. The only interesting thing in their posting is that it says he comes with 2 handheld weapons. Scott/Stick came with three, so I'm assuming that they don't count the large gun that is attached to the forearm armor as a "handheld" weapon. Also, no image (again) or mention of a Tommy Yune head sculpt, but I assume that there will be one again.

On a different note (but still on topic of this thread), what do we have for MOSPEADA figures out there currently, or confirmed as coming out soon? This is what I can think of: Aoshima: - Blue Legioss - Red Legioss - Green Legioss - Dark Legioss? Haven't seen it, but I assume they must have one. CMs: - Stick - Ray - Yellow - Houquet - Shinobou (sp?) - black and white Stick - black and white Ray - partially clear Stick - partially clear Ray - partially clear Yellow - two-pack of green soldier figures - Col. Johnathan figure - Blue Legioss and TLEAD - Red Legioss and TLEAD - Green Legioss and TLEAD - Dark Legioss and TLEAD - Dark Drone Legioss Megahouse: - Stick (also a Toynami-labelled Scott) - Ray (also a Toynami-labelled Rand) - Yellow - black and white Stick - all-black Stick - all-black Yellow Beagle/Toynami: - Stick/Scott - Ray/Rand Toynami: - Blue Alpha - Red Alpha - Green Alpha - Shadow Alpha - Blue Beta - Red Beta - Green Beta - Shadow Beta Did I miss anything?

The profile definitely looks like Houquet's/Shinobou's (spelling?) bike, though there's nothing saying that that placeholder image has anything to do with what the big surprise it. This bike would really only be a surprise based on the fact that presales on some sites had listed Yellow as being next, so the order of the releases would be a surprise. A REAL surprise would be one of the items that you mentioned, DarrinG, likely in vinyl I suspect. One thing we can be fairly certain of is that it will be an item that is common to MOSPEADA, and not something that is only in Robotech, but not MOSPEADA, since Beagle is making the announcement and not Toynami. Oh, and what happened to Megahouse making a Houquet? We've got Stick, Ray, an all-black Stick, a black and white Stick, now a new all-black Yellow (did I miss any?), but still only a profile picture of a future release of a Houquet.

Really? I didn't know that. I'm actually a little surprised to hear it. Some of it definitely looked professional, some of it looked a bit amateurish, and then this one looked very professional, but a little too close to Megazone (also an Artmic creation) for me to think it was an original design. I know the stuff in the Robotech RPG was definitely fan made, though I suspect professional artist fans. If that was an unused Artmic design, well, that just makes it that much cooler.

Houquet seems the most likely, though I'm sure we can all come up with a grocery list of other similar items we would love to see. I wonder about the gift sets, if that means repackaging the current inventory of Alphas/Legioss with their matching Betas/TLEADs, or if it means new runs of the blue one and others.

I agree, would love to see something made of this. As much as I like Yamato, I suspect if anything were to ever get made of it, it would be Aterlier Sai doing it in vinyl, so it wouldn't transform. I know it's from an RPG, so basically is a fan creation, but still think it is very cool, and combines two anime that I really love.

If you read the manga, it's less about this type of combat, and more about students protesting against what they feel is an unjust government (something common in most parts of the world for, oh, the better part of a century now at least).

Robotech: Shadow Chronicles Problem
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think it's all about the connotations we have with something. Maybe if I rewatched Sentinels today, I would think it was terrible. On the other hand, I read the Sentinels novels when I was 11 or 12 and loved them, read through Robotech Art 3 around the same time and liked it. When I saw Sentinels on VHS way back when, it was sort of an embodiment of those earlier things, so that's the connotation it has in my mind, which is a lot warmer (and more nostalgic, I suppose) than Shadow Chronicles has. Another factor, for me at least, was that Sentinels was made over 20 years ago, and even at that what we see of Sentinels is trying to piece together separate bits of animation and story, intended for different episodes, into a vague semblance of a movie. Shadow Chronicles, on the other hand, should have benefitted from 20+ years of advancements in animation and, frankly, in the craft of storytelling for intelligent animation fans, in addition to being made as a single movie, and not haphazardly pieced together, and yet it still falls short. Sentinels probably is worse, but somehow I don't resent it for its shortcomings nearly as much as I do Shadow Chronicles. -

Wow, I start a topic yesterday, make one or two replies, then go home, don't go online last night, come in today... and wow, this conversation got ugly! Ok, to reply to a couple things I saw up above: Roger, not sure if you were trying to be insulting towards me (with the assuming I was 13 comment) or were just joking around. I'm going to assume it was all just good-natured joking around, since I'm pretty sure I've never given you any reason, in this thread or others, to have any animosity towards me. I do still have very fond nostalgic feelings for Robotech, based on my memories of watching it many years ago as a kid, and still enjoying it more recently rewatching it with my son, and maybe that makes me childish, but I don't think so. As for the comments on Ted McKeever and Tom Bateman, well, I don't know any of these guys. Could be the nicest guys in the world, or the worst. Could be absolutely brilliant at their jobs, or just skating by on other people's coattails. I honestly don't know. The only one I can speak to at all is Tommy Yune, and, again, don't know the guy, never spoken to him, I can only judge him in regards to his abilities in what he has attached his name to. I like his artwork just fine, but, if memory serves, he is listed as a co-writer on Shadow Chronicles, and as director. The writing and direction of Shadow Chronicles are the elements where I think it comes across horribly amateurish (the CG, I suspect, is so bad because corners were probably cut to keep costs low... someone commented above that CG is always bad, but I know that in some new shows, like Viper's Creed and Rideback, I think it is blended in very well and isn't jarring in the least), so, from that point of view, I think one can criticize his work. Not him, but his work. I know that this thread has gotten off track. It was meant to be both a little bit humorous (looks like I failed there) and a little bit of venting as to my disappointment at this, the closest thing to new material that can feed my love of MOSPEADA, as well as some frustration that I even like the new MOSPEADA-esque mecha, just can't stand the new material that it comes from. -

I think that's right up there with that BIG award it won for best animated feature at some film festival... where it was also the only animated entry. -
Just found this in one of the old Bubblegum Crisis RPG books. Basically, it's a cross between a Bubblegum Crisis Motoslave and a Megazone 23 Garland, by way of Priss' Highway Star from the original BGC. Shinji Aramaki inbreeding? LOL Anyway, I think it's kind of cool.

Nice Though, when you think about it, at least those appealed to SOMEBODY. I mean, a lot of young kids liked the Star Wars prequels. Did anybody like Shadow Chronicles? I mean, other than Tommy Yune? -
Robotech: Shadow Chronicles Problem

Twice. TWICE. Once a year later, when poor memory made me think it might be better this time (like the way I liked Megazone 23 better when I watched it a second time a year or two later)... ... and it wasn't any better. Even my son thought it was terrible, and I raised him on Robotech and Batman Beyond. -

I know what you mean, and, obviously, my post up above it said half-joking, tongue-in-cheek, but at the same time, I think Macross fans have the benefit of having subsequent Macross series to enjoy, like Frontier, etc. (I've only ever kind of skimmed these series, to be honest, so my understanding is that it's new characters, but the same universe, with the exception of DYRL, which is sort of a new take on the original story). Unfortunately, with MOSPEADA, there's been nothing, except for Love Live Alive, which is really just a clips show. Thus, the way a Macross fan would look forward to seeing a new Macross-style transforming fighter (Valkyrie, or am I mixing in Robotech terminology now?), I still enjoy seeing new MOSPEADA-style mecha, even if the story they appear in is utter trash... and the mecha themselves aren't very original... -
I have a problem... See, I LOVE Genesis Climber MOSPEADA... Robotech has a place in my heart due to the impact it had on me as a kid... However, I think Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles is an utter piece of trash and... and... oh, so many more bad things to say about it! Now, where my problem is, is that, since I am such a big MOSPEADA fan, I still love seeing anything new related to it, even including the RT:SC Super Cyclone (a ripoff of an unused MOSPEADA design, later called the Devastator in the RPGs), the Invid Overlord (a Beta fighter/TLEAD with an Invid/Inbit-looking skin on it), and even the Silverback (a sort of transforming dunebuggy put together with leftover Cyclone/MOSPEADA parts)... How do I reconcile how sorely ripped off, as a fan and a consumer, I feel with Shadow Chronicles with my enjoyment of getting ANYTHING new MOSPEADA-related? Help me world, help me...

Yeah, but there were a bunch of shows in the '80s that featured computerized exoskeleton suits which gave the wearers special abilities. You'd figure the author would at least mention the fact that they transformed into motorcycles to distinguish them a little.
-
Wow, doesn't sound like the writer even had access to a clip from the show...

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
RavenHawk replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Really REALLY recommend RideBack to everyone. Even if eps. 1-3 aren't really your thing, things really get turned upside down come episodes 6&7, and it's really worth the ride (ok, pun intended, a little...).
