  1. Nice. Got mine into bikes pretty early too. My 14-year-old has been racing BMX since he was 4. Now we're rebuilding an '87 Yamaha SRX 250 together (think of it as the Yamaha version of the Honda sportbike that inspired Aramaki to come up with MOSPEADA ride-armor).
  2. Sorry, other than Aramaki and Kawamori, I'm not too familiar with creators by name. I more know anime by the small number I've watched, which, off the top of my head, boils down to: Genesis Climber MOSPEADA Bubblegum Crisis Bubblegum Crash Bubblegum Crisis 2040 AD Police AD Police Files Armor Hunter Mellowlink Megazone 23 (all parts) Appleseed and Appleseed: Ex Machina Witchhunter Robin Blood: The Last Vampire Macross (original redone as Robotech, then bits and pieces of Macross sequels) Gall Force (1 & 3 & Rhea) Scramble Wars Blassreiter RideBack Viper's Creed Starship Troopers Venus Wars Sky Crawlers Biomega (manga, I know, but I keep hoping for an anime) and some Orguss, Gundam, random other stuff. As you can tell, I tend to prefer more serious stuff, not really a fan of giant robots but do like some amount of mecha, and if you toss in a motorcycle or, even betterm a variable bike, I'm hooked. Unlike a lot of people on these boards, I don't know a lot of creators by name, am not familiar with the majority of anime out there... to paraphrase that quote about art, "I may not know anime, but I know what I like." EDIT: Had to fix some spelling.
  3. Hah! 4 kids here too (I started young).
  4. GONZO did Blassreiter too though, didn't they? I thought that one was fairly serious, not to fanserive-y (if I understand the term correctly). I think I was hoping for something like a cross between Blassreiter and BGC.
  5. Still waiting for more episodes to download... Frustrating. Well, I really liked the first episode. I like Bubblegum Crisis a lot, but have a bad feeling this show will be about the silliness that I DIDN'T like in BGC, as well as the sexual stuff (ecchi, is it called?) judging from the models based on the show that I dislike too.
  6. Really? I transformed mine right away when I opened it (after taking a couple cellphone pics). Couldn't wait. First transfromation takes like half an hour. By the third time it takes like 3 or 4 minutes.
  7. Honestly, I think that the Robotech live-action movie's best bet is to follow the Transformers live-action movie model. Let me clarify: If you look at Transformers, they took the very basic premise (2 factions of warring robots from another planet; robots transform into Earth vehicles) and character names (Optimus Prime et al., even the Witwicky family was from the Marvel comics, though not the show), and kept nothing else. Character personalities were different, professions of human characters were different, motivations of robots were different (All-Spark versus energon), looks of the robots were completely different, vehicle modes were completely different, everything. This worked. For Robotech, you do the same thing. Same very basic premise (alien ship lands on Earth; humans develop technology from it, including variable fighters; aliens come looking for it; war ensues) and character names (Roy Fokker, Rick Hunter, Lisa Hayes, Glovel, etc.). The ships will look completely different. The planes will look completely different. The robots will look completely different. The aliens will look completely different. The characters will behave completely differently. Oh, and skip over Minmei and the musical aspect all together. This, in my opinion, is the only way a Robotech LAM would have a chance of being financially successful, while also having the benefit of being thoroughly distanced from Macross, Macross fans, and Macross lawsuits.
  8. My money would be on somebody live Liv Tyler.
  9. I'm with you on that. And some toys, too.
  10. What I didn't like about the ending was the way that
  11. Yeah, I was just about to comment on that. I actually liked the political side of RideBack (loved the first few episodes, with the joy of riding that they showed, but still expected it to become political, and thought it handled it well). So, overall, I thought it started strong, stayed strong in the middle, though based on different elements, and just the last episode disappointed. Viper's Creed, on the other hand, I thought started off weak (action, sure, but very weak characterization and plot), really dragged its feet in the middle, and didn't get good until the last few episodes. Ending as a little disappointing, though this seems to be the case with almost all anime.
  12. That's a surprising amount of products for a show that doesn't seem to get a ton or attention, at least around these boards. Thanks Keith. I've done a quick search for it, but all I've found so far as bittorrents of it that look to be DVD rips, but don't seem to have english subs.
  13. Mine just shipped. Once it gets in, can finally replace my old BitTorrents.
  14. What are the updates? Just releasing the same ones that Toynami is releasing, in brighter colors?
  15. That's how I viewed it, and thus enjoyed it. Though why someone would want to live in a world without The Kurgen... well, I just don't get it.
  16. Well, it IS a Gregory Widen movie. He tends to write his with pretty clear endings, and then other people screw them up trying to make sequels. Look at how great The Prophecy was. Then look at how terrible the sequels were.
  17. Thanks for the advice. Did the OVA have a specific name (so it's easier to distinguish from the regular series)?
  18. I suppose most of the anime vets on here have already seen this show, but it's new to me. Came across it on another forum while looking up more bikes for my variable bikes site-to-be. Anyway, on that other forum people were talking about how awful and hated this anime was (comparing it to Blassreiter; I, on the other hand, actually enjoyed Blassreiter). Well, I just watched the first episode and thought it wasn't bad at all. Visually, I think it's gorgeous. Really beautiful animation and very cool mecha designs. The character design is a bit cartoony for my tastes, but I can overlook that. The action, well, looks like it was directly lifted from John Woo's repertoire. The only thing that really bothered me so far is that it's a bit too on the "let's show fairly young girls scantily clad and looking like sex objects" side of things, with closeups on butts and crotches and nipples for my tastes (yeah, I'm weird, I like that in my live-action, but not in my anime). The one wearing a skimpy cowboy outfit just makes no sense to me. Reminds me to Bubblegum Crisis in a lot of ways. Group of female mercenaries. Similar personalities, with the youngest/smallest being the computer person, the oldest being in charge, etc. Mecha. Some mecha opponents, and what look to be some more creature-like ones (which I usually don't like, but it was ok in BGC and sequels/spinoffs, and even grew on me in Blassreiter). I'd love to hear other people's thoughts, just please don't give away any spoilers.
  19. I think if it were a stand-alone movie, people would think it was an ok anime, nothing special. Because it is part of the Highlander franchise, some may not consider it anime. Because it is part of the Highlander franchise, it absolutely shines compared to some of the live-action movies (and I love the franchise, but some of it has just been AWFUL).
  20. I'm in too (it's a variable bike, so obviously...).
  21. I posted pictures a page or two back in this thread. EDIT: Zx31, you beat me to it.
  22. Put her on the Beagle. Ok, maybe not the cheapest large scale bike out there...
  23. Still hoping (even though I know there's no chance) for the Hurricane II moto-slave, Typhoon I & II moto-slaves, Priss' Heavy moto-slave, AD Police moto-slave...
  24. Same here. I want all 4, but right now I have the metallic Priss, and can't imagine getting the other three no in metallic. Only question is, will Yamato release the other three in metallic?
  25. Good ol' Aoshima. Re-releasing Priss a THIRD time, again with the only difference being a new weapon. Sounds like CMs with the upcoming re-release of the Legioss/Tread. http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS04637
