The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
RavenHawk replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Anyone on here who has read my posts before knows how I feel about that! -
Anyone know when this show is coming out? I haven't seen any torrents for it yet, or conversation, for that matter, but it's listed on the April/May schedule.

The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
RavenHawk replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Can we hate on the fact, as Bay said in a recent interview himself, that -
Heh, like my post about Shadow Chronicles. Taksraven INSISTS that I was baiting. A mod closed it down because he felt that I was just Shadow Chronicles bashing. In reality, I was looking for an alternative to Shadow Chronicles to get my ongoing MOSPEADA fix. What can I say, I'm a variable bike and MOSPEADA junkie, I'll take my next hit anywhere I can get it, even if I'm not proud of it...

Hey, you leave Batman Beyond out of this! I loved that show.
-
The worst are the apologists. There's one, "rhade" I think, who is the first to immediately tell people how wrong they are and how Harmony Gold are wonderful and flawless... I get being a fan, but one still has to maintain some grasp of reality and perspective.
-
Why do you say that? My preorder said May (which, judging by past Robotech.com experience, actually means early-to-mid July).
-
The email I got from them said July. Of course it also said this is the SECOND Masterpiece. To be followed shortly by the FOURTH Masterpiece, the Shadow Beta.

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
RavenHawk replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Whew... got scared for a minute there... -
I guess this is where, being a dad, this show is ruined for me. This pic is funny, and right on the money. On the other hand, while my 10 year old loves basketball, and loves Transformers Animated, and would love this pic... yeah, the boob grabbing...

I guess I'm the only one actually turned OFF from this show by the fan service?

revenge of : Megahouse BARTLEY toy !
RavenHawk replied to novaflo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hey novaflo, You know me, a variable bike obsessive. While I am THOROUGHLY disappointed by the CMs MOSPEADA bikes, I think that the issue with how fugly the Bartley one looks with the exposed forks isn't their fault. This is simply a design element of the bike itself. Look at the original design art. It's the type of thing that looks ok in the cartoon, but just doesn't translate well to toys. The Bartley has no handguard parts (which become the should parts in armor mode), so the forks are exposed. Even if you look at the Beagle (which I was hoping would come up with some novel solution to this problem, like a flipdown internal cover), these forks are exposed and look bad (relatively speaking). -
1) I don't think it's an adrenaline junkie thing, but it is a focus thing. The whole white light, I think, being a metaphor for it. Sort of like when they talk about runners reaching that point where they aren't conciously running anymore, just in a different state of mind and focus. Something she had with dance, or rather that her mother tried to give to her with dance, and that she now found on Fuego. 2) I don't think it was random. I think it was handled very well. There was just too much other stuff going on to prosecute at the time, and the GGP was pretty much creating a police state where none of their actions could be questioned. 3 & 4) That whole plotline was significant but, in my opinion, too glossed over at the end. My only real complaint about the series. Basically the GGP and Japanese government relationship was completely re-evaluated at the end, with a lot of power that the GGP had been wielding being returned to Japan, and heads of GGP and Hesner being arrested for bribery/illegal government and military contracts, etc.

I feel your pain. 4th grade for me, but I feel your pain.

Lol. Yeah, seems like someone may have been a little influenced by someone else's work. Well, I'll check out Red Eyes on onemanga during lunch. Thanks again.
-
It's set in the VOTOMS universe, sort of a side story. An infantry soldier whose troop is left to die by their commanding officers. As the only survivor, he ignores the power armor that everyone else use, and basically spends the series hunting down the officers who betrayed them out of greed and left his troop to die. He uses a motorcycle and an old sniper rifle, while his enemies all have power armor, and takes them down one per episode, uncovering a bit of a government conspiracy along the way.
-
So a bit like Armor Hunter Mellowlink?
-
Sounds like I should definitely be more familiar with that name then. And on the manga front, Red Eyes? Sounds interesting. Always enjoy power armor, if it's handled in an at-all-realistic fashion. Can you tell me in a sentence or two about the plot? I'll have to check it out on onemanga.

Nice. Got mine into bikes pretty early too. My 14-year-old has been racing BMX since he was 4. Now we're rebuilding an '87 Yamaha SRX 250 together (think of it as the Yamaha version of the Honda sportbike that inspired Aramaki to come up with MOSPEADA ride-armor).
-
Sorry, other than Aramaki and Kawamori, I'm not too familiar with creators by name. I more know anime by the small number I've watched, which, off the top of my head, boils down to: Genesis Climber MOSPEADA Bubblegum Crisis Bubblegum Crash Bubblegum Crisis 2040 AD Police AD Police Files Armor Hunter Mellowlink Megazone 23 (all parts) Appleseed and Appleseed: Ex Machina Witchhunter Robin Blood: The Last Vampire Macross (original redone as Robotech, then bits and pieces of Macross sequels) Gall Force (1 & 3 & Rhea) Scramble Wars Blassreiter RideBack Viper's Creed Starship Troopers Venus Wars Sky Crawlers Biomega (manga, I know, but I keep hoping for an anime) and some Orguss, Gundam, random other stuff. As you can tell, I tend to prefer more serious stuff, not really a fan of giant robots but do like some amount of mecha, and if you toss in a motorcycle or, even betterm a variable bike, I'm hooked. Unlike a lot of people on these boards, I don't know a lot of creators by name, am not familiar with the majority of anime out there... to paraphrase that quote about art, "I may not know anime, but I know what I like." EDIT: Had to fix some spelling.
-
Hah! 4 kids here too (I started young).
-
GONZO did Blassreiter too though, didn't they? I thought that one was fairly serious, not to fanserive-y (if I understand the term correctly). I think I was hoping for something like a cross between Blassreiter and BGC.
-
Still waiting for more episodes to download... Frustrating. Well, I really liked the first episode. I like Bubblegum Crisis a lot, but have a bad feeling this show will be about the silliness that I DIDN'T like in BGC, as well as the sexual stuff (ecchi, is it called?) judging from the models based on the show that I dislike too.
-
Really? I transformed mine right away when I opened it (after taking a couple cellphone pics). Couldn't wait. First transfromation takes like half an hour. By the third time it takes like 3 or 4 minutes.

Honestly, I think that the Robotech live-action movie's best bet is to follow the Transformers live-action movie model. Let me clarify: If you look at Transformers, they took the very basic premise (2 factions of warring robots from another planet; robots transform into Earth vehicles) and character names (Optimus Prime et al., even the Witwicky family was from the Marvel comics, though not the show), and kept nothing else. Character personalities were different, professions of human characters were different, motivations of robots were different (All-Spark versus energon), looks of the robots were completely different, vehicle modes were completely different, everything. This worked. For Robotech, you do the same thing. Same very basic premise (alien ship lands on Earth; humans develop technology from it, including variable fighters; aliens come looking for it; war ensues) and character names (Roy Fokker, Rick Hunter, Lisa Hayes, Glovel, etc.). The ships will look completely different. The planes will look completely different. The robots will look completely different. The aliens will look completely different. The characters will behave completely differently. Oh, and skip over Minmei and the musical aspect all together. This, in my opinion, is the only way a Robotech LAM would have a chance of being financially successful, while also having the benefit of being thoroughly distanced from Macross, Macross fans, and Macross lawsuits.
