The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
RavenHawk replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
On kids? Forget the kids. It made my mom cry when she took me to see it! I think she's still mad, all these years later, that I made her take me to see a movie where a cartoon robot dying made her cry. -
Yeah, makes you wonder though about Sam being in a bad mood in the beginning of the trailer, and saying he's going to leave Bumblebee behind... it's time to grow up and move on with life or some such... I mean, if you were eighteen, had an incredibly hot girlfriend and your cool muscle car turned into a giant robot, why would you possibly WANT to move on?

Viper's Creed Thread (can we make it official?)
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ok, I have to say that it is somewhat frustrating here with all the thread consolidation. On the one hand, I understand why the mods do it. On the other hand, I specifically started a new thread because I wanted help from people that wouldn't tend to check out a thread about Viper's Creed. While I did get some much appreciated help, I was still asking for more. -
Jenius has pics on Anymoon.com in his post about upcoming stuff for this year of the Ray Beagle, so clearly it is hitting the Japanese distributors now (though probably just some preview copies for them to review).

Yeah, good memory. I don't like the silly stuff (with Scramble Wars probably being the one and only exception). Thanks for the recommendation. -
What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
RavenHawk replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Thanks. This is the first Macross I've seen with the city in space element that really made me think of Megazone. I've seen the original, I've seen Clash of the Bionoids (the US release of one of one of the old Macross ones; bought it on VHS when I was in middle school, I think), Macross Plus (as much of it as is available on Netflix, I know it's not the whole thing) which really bored me, Zero last week, which I really liked, and thought it was just the right length, and now Frontier. Never saw 7. -
What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0

Just finished Burst Angel and the prequel OAV. While the action scenes were solid, overall it just bored me. Weak plot, not much connection episode to episode, very repetitive, and the last 6 episodes or so reused a TON of footage. Now I just watched the director's cut first episode of Macross Frontier (just starting this series, sorry, I know it's old news for most people on here). Wow! Not a big Macross sequels fan, but the artwork here is gorgeous! The action is fantastic. Backgrounds are nice. First pass at the characters makes me think they may actually be interesting. Very much looking forward to this. I do love the flying suits that all the pilots wear. Very cool idea for a use of exoskeletons (MOSPEADA concept, in a way, but with a Macross flair). I know the original Macross came before Megazone, but as far as Macross Frontier is concerned, or at least the first episode, it reminds me of Megaonze 23 Parts 1 & 2. Cities flying through space. Aliens attacking with deadly tails and tentacles on their mecha. And the idol there, with her very militaristic outfits during the concert in this episode, reminds me of Eve during the alien attacks in Megazone, where she was reprogrammed in her new videos to be wearing a militaristic outfit. I know these are very superficial similarities, but just thought I'd share. -
Robotech and HG License Debates

Ok, them falling to pieces did look pretty bad, but I guess it was sort of meant as a shorthand way of emphasizing that they're supposed to be hollow shells. I actually though it had great potential. Remember, the Sentinels movie was essentially put together from scrap bits from what little had been animated of a few different episodes of what was meant to be the ongoing series. I've said it before, but I want to re-emphasize: while the Sentinels movie may be worse than Shadow Chronicles, considering that it was put together from random bits, and Shadow Chronicles was animated as written right from the start, I think we need to cut Sentinels some slack. I actually believe that if it had come out complete, all the episodes, fully funded and animated, it would have been pretty decent and very good for a series from 1985. -
Viper's Creed Thread (can we make it official?)
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ok, just tried it. It is definitely better than Google, but still kind of confusion. The text on the page that is on a blue background makes NO SENSE to me at all. Something about mail order? Is it some sort of exclusive Shinji Aramaki item if you order it directly? They say the color is a commodity provided or something like that, but I don't know if that means it will be colored, or if coloring instruction are provided. I think it also says that the deadline for reservations is June? Sorry, that's the most I can make out. The help so far is appreciated (thanks again), but any more anyone can offer would be wonderful. -

Gubaba and Sketchley, Never heard of that site, but I'll give it a try. Thank you! -

By the way, I have tried translating it using the Google translator, but it is pretty much completely unintelligible. -
Viper's Creed Thread (can we make it official?)

I posted this in the Viper's Creed thread a good few days ago, but no one replied. I guess no one who reads that thread can read Japanese. So, I am posting this here, in the hopes that someone can translate this for me, even if they're not a Viper's Creed fan. http://studio-halfeye.com/works/maneuver_b...mblade_top.html Can someone please translate this page for me? Specifically, I would like to know if it says when this is coming out, if it will be painted or not, and if there will be other versions released later? Thank you in advance. -

Robotech and HG License Debates

Funny, in my opinion: http://www.robotech.com/news/viewarticle.php?id=388 Even though the sidebar says: "Anime Central guests include (from top to bottom): Steve Yun (Harmony Gold), Vic Mignogna (Hikaru voice actor in Macross), Matt Greenfield (English voice director on Macross), Bruce Lewis (Robotech comic artist) and Fred Perry (Robotech comic artist)." The post on the front page says: "Meet Harmony Gold's Steve Yun and Macross voice actor Vic Mignogna this weekend in Illinois for Anime Central! " So, we should be excited about meeting voice actors from a show that Harmony Gold won't let us watch, and the BIG HIGHLIGHT is we get to meet Robotech.com's WEBMASTER!?!?! Oooooooh.... Now, Fred Perry, on the other hand, I would enjoy meeting. -

The Invid War comics were actually surprisingly good. -
The more I think about it and look at them, the more the wheeled legs are growing on me. Thing is, I especially like it on the silver one (Sideswipe?) with the blades on his arms. Just really accentuates the sleek look. Somehow, on the bikes, they just kind of look rushes though. I do appreciate that they look different. The Decepticon bike, Knockout, just looks boring and traditional. I actually liked Arcee from the first movie toyline. My second favorite Transformer motorcycle toy, after Animated Prowl.
-
I'm sure that they had to make some changes, but it does look like this time around the toys are a good bit closer to their movie counterparts than they were in the previous movie. The new characters' toys look very very close to how they look in the prequel comics as well.
-
My kids and I have a long-standing in-joke about ice cream trucks being the physical embodiment of pure evil on Earth... though I normally only buy motorcycle Transformers, and as much as I agree with you 100% on the hatred of these Jar Jar Binks type characters being added to this movie... I think I may have to buy this as well. Thanks for the link, too. Like I said before, I'm just hoping a combined, bigger form makes up for how awful and sloppy this is...
-
Where are you seeing the combined forms?
-
For those not following the Transformers threads on here, here is the toy of the new Arcee. Again, wheels for feet... As I said in the other thread, I assume that how awful her robot mode and Chromia's robot mode look are going to be justified by the two of them and the third bike combining into a bigger robot.
-
People who know me on here know it's all about the motorcycles for me, so I'm just looking at Arcee here... Ok, I agree she looks pretty bad here. I assume, however, that her robot mode looking so bad, and Chromia's robot mode looking so bad, mean they combine with the third bike to make a larger, hopefully better looking, robot.
