Consoles generally appear to get a 6 month lead time where they are superior, but PCs always catch up quickly. They APPEAR to be better. But you have to remember, they're running at 640*480 at 30 Hz(technically 60 interlaced). 60Hz on the high end(Dreamcast VGA box, PS2/GameCube progressive scan). Exception: XBox can do higher resolutions. The average PC game is running more like 1024*768 at 75-100 Hz. It's got a lot more work going on even when the games look equivalent. This generation's a bit diffrent, though. It's set up to be DTV ready. All 3 systems are supporting the higher resolutions available. There's a massive hop up here. Hign-end is 1080i = 1920*1080=2,073,600 pixels. A good moderate-high PC game res is what? 1600*1200? Which = 1,920,000. Almost identical pixel-wise. However, 1080i is running at 60Hz interlaced, which is 30 full screens a second. The PC 1600*1200 is 60Hz progressive at the minimum, resulting in a doubled render job, and more likely 75 or 100Hz(60Hz looks like CRAP on a PC monitor). More likely is 720p, though. Which is 1280*720=921,600 pixels at 60Hz progressive. Console games generally LOOK flashier, but in practice they aren't. The display they use lets them get away with lower resolutions and smaller texture maps, along with such evil trickery as dithered shading and checkerboard transparency. Having said all that, let it be clarified that I'm not a PC fanboy. Games is games. Well, I have a 128 MB DDR GeForce FX 5200 video card, a 2.8GHz CPU w/HTT, and 1 GB of DDR ram and I still have trouble playing the latests games. I can't set the settings to Ultra high when I play Doom 3 or WoW. If I do for Doom 3 I have set my resolution to 640x480. WoW seems to handle the high detail well, but I only get about 12 fps on avg. You'd think with my specs I'd have no problems...but I do. I hate to think that I have to upgrade already when I bought all of this sh*t in 2003, IIRC. If what you say is true, then these next gen consoles are just about as good as my current PC then? I was actually hoping for once that I could buy a gaming machine that had better graphics than a PC...for I wouldn't have to upgrade! But that went down the toilet. The cutting edge is the bleeding edge. Though there are affordable upgrades you could make for DIII performance.

Its not terribly difficult to keep up though. I dunno, things are looking to me like PCs, Consoles, and TVs will all converge someday.

This poll is crap, no offense directed at Agent ONE, because it's not a random sample of the world wide population. Most people are here a fans of Macross and seeing how both the PS and PS2 had Macross games. I would say some of those people may get the PS3 because they are hoping another Macross game will be made for it. Besides this poll doesn't even represent the community on here because not everyone has voted either. Dude, nobody here pics systems based on Macross games. Actually, I've seen it said before.

Abusing in what way? From what I've heard, it was they were charging high license rates per cartridge, plus charging for what was made, not just what sold in stores. So the developers ate most of the dept. That was a big one. Nintendo was used to being able to do what they wanted.

I agree with you Hurin that the prequels do change the meaning of the OT. But to me, that meaning wasn't really worth keeping in the first place, and personally, I like the alterations/affirmations that the PT makes for the OT.

I figured it was a Man-Faye reference. On another note - Just because MS has boatloads of cash, doesn't mean they'll drop it all for the XBox. However, MS is VERY comfortable and if need be they can fix many problems by simply throwing money at them.

Hurin, why don't you try to restrain yourself from tarring everybody who disagrees with you with the same brush. Nobody is telling you that you *must* like the prequels, or that your opinion *must* agree with the rest of ours. What we *are* trying to get across to you and others who share your opinion (they know who they are) is that you can actually discuss these things without resorting to childish, overblown hyperbole such as "childhood rapings." THAT is the reason that the "fanboy" label gets thrown around, not because you disagree with our opinions. You're free to put on your best Comic Book Guy face and make declarations about the "Worst. ______ Ever." but you should expect to be treated as such. Sounds like an unrelated problem to me. You should take better care of your computer. The only problem I've had with Windows XP since its come out is infinite loop errors and that's had a suspicious correlation with when I've had VIA chipset mobos(Only nForce from here on out baby!). So that's probably not even MS. As for Sony; wait til you get a D.R.E. . . Personally, I don't really care for any of the systems. Nintendo's is the most intriguing, but I have to see more, I think that they have more up their sleeves and it should become apparent soon. Oh it's not just the occational error with XP, my true dislike for microsoft came about when I had to put up with that steaming pile of SH!T OS called ME. And don't tell me it isn't microsoft either, the thing was crap and they knew it yet they released it anyway. Use an OS that with a 99% chance on crashing on you when ever you use it and tell me you love microsoft. LOL Ok then. ME was crap. I WILL give you that. Yeah. I don't trust Sony either, but average dumbass (you know who you are) doesn't care. They buy into the hype(of their chosen company) and quote it as gospel truth. Its gone on for years, I remember someone saying to me that the Genesis was better than the SNES because and I quote "It has blast processing." Nevermind the fact that the Genesis couldn't have more than 64 colors on screen at once iirc. Its interesting to see consoles evolving into more than just a toy though. Nintendo first and MS second for me. I like Nintendo because they're pioneers and they usually manage to make me smile when I play their games. Microsoft, well.... contrary to what many people think about them, they come out with products that I use and enjoy on a regular basis. I took a leap of faith with my purchase of an XBOX and while I haven't been floored by anything yet, I'm still open. Sony... well the PS2's graphics have honestly looked like ass since day one, but again... the only game that wowed me was GTA and its sequels, but that wore thin after the first one for ps2.

Their day is far from over. They've had a gigantic war chest for years. 5 billion is nothing to sneeze at. Having money to fall back on is worthless if you're out of touch with the majority of the market. Nintendo hasn't actually put out a good piece of hardware since the Super NES (the GBA family has some great software, but every variant of the GBA has some flaws). That's just ignorant. They're neck and neck with Microsoft as far as systems sold and if the Gamecube isn't "decent" hardware then, why do PS2 games look like ass compared to GC games? I mean, they've got their shortcomings, but to say that they haven't come out with decent hardware since the SNES is just preposterous. The N64 was a piece of trash, I'll give you that. I'd prefer them to keep out of touch with the majority of the market if they have to appeal to the xXx and Fast and Furious crowd. I think many agree that 99% of the games released these days suck. For me, the 1% is primarily comprised of Gamecube games.
