VF-27 Super Hyper Dimensional Mega Turbo Armored Strike Fighter Deluxe

You know, that's a damn fine idea. I would like to keep certain DVDs safe from dust and what not. Mostly my imports that tend to be pricey and more difficult to replace.

Comments have been made regarding who the very last voice was singing on the final episode since it appeared that neither Sheryl nor Ranka were singing. Now that we have had a chance to listen to track 19 Nyan Nyan Service Medley, what does anybody think? To me it still sounds like Ranka with different mixing/filtering or what have you. I know we are all beating around the bush to say that perhaps it is supposed to be a hint regarding Minmay. Even after hearing the OST2 track 19 I'm still not conclusive on it. I still don't know what to make of it.

Was it in cruiser mode or attack mode? I found that it was not very stable in cruiser mode, but it seemed to balance better in attack mode. The legs are very heavy compared to the rest of it so the legs naturally want to hang down. One thing that bugs me is that after I transformed it once I couldn't seem to get it to snap tight again when I transformed it back into cruiser mode. The legs don't want to lay completely straight because they are so heavy. Also, the main canon parts do not really lock together tightly so they tend to split apart slightly creating a gap.

Another great CD. Pretty much all the songs are great. I keep listening to High School Life and Anato no Oto more than anything else at the moment, but they are all great songs IMO. Even the various BGM tracks are interesting. Listening to High School Life makes me wish they created lyrics for it. It has such a great rhythm I can't help but nod my head along with the beat. What a cool song to jam with.

Yup, all I have to say is Sheryl Nome. -
I thought Project A-ko was a riot. You didn't find it funny? I still have to contend that M.D. Geist was that bad.

Hey, where did you get that? I was only aware of the model kit. Didn't know there was a toy.

What a great first post. You will make many friends here if you keep posting links like this one. Thanks, and welcome to Macrossworld Edit: Awesome. It almost had everything I was expecting and things I was not expecting. A little disappointed it didn't have the Bobby versions of anything. Oh, well.

Well written Mercurial Morpheus. I admit I get a chuckle when I see a bad costume or someone that has seriously picked the wrong character to cosplay. However, I would never come down on them, and I actually admire their effort because it is far more than I would ever do. I think it takes real guts to cosplay when you know you look nothing like the character and you can bet that people will poke fun at you for it.

Another *glowing* review of Macross Frontier.
sharky replied to ShizumaRobo's topic in Movies and TV Series
Very good point. God forbid we should rely on our own imaginations to contemplate what happened. I find it silly that some would discount an entire work because of one aspect of it. Why is it so necessary to depict exactly what happens? I have a mind, and I can infer and interpret what must have happened on my own. First people will complain about an ending being unresolved in some way. Then they complain about an ending not going the way they had hoped. Writers probably leave open endings to anime just to keep people from b**ching about the endings that they actually write to completion. Just fill in the blanks yourself and you won't be disappointed. I wonder what people think about the ending to TLOTR trilogy? I thought it just kept going and going. It was truly the other extreme IMHO. -
Unfortunately, once you watch it you cannot un-watch it. I don't subscribe to the "bandwagon" theory in this case. I was a kid when I first attempted to watch it. Didn't have nor hear of any opinion about it one way or another. I couldn't even finish it, and I never was crazy enough to try to watch it again.

Great episode last night. Although the interaction between Sarah and that kid seemed very awkward IMHO. They should have totally re-written those scenes. That kid was surprisingly upbeat considering he was almost killed and practically held captive for all those days. It was pretty lame that he was worried about his book report considering the circumstances of the situation. Edit: It was nice of Garbage chick to do that guy in the alley before she killed him. At least he died happy. I'm beginning to think that she is indeed trying to use the FBI guy, Ellison, to find machines so that she can start to develop them in preparation for the future war. Once the nuke strike occurs there will already be an army of machines ready to fight. This sort of goes against the T3 movie in a way. In T3 the military built the first machine prototypes although they were not endo-skeletons. So, maybe this is really how the first endo-skeleton terminators get developed. Yet, another paradox of which came first.

There are many movies and OVAs that I really enjoy as much as Macross. As far as a series goes I have found only a few that managed to hold my attention only because I don't have so much free time to search out and try new ones. So, a series has to be enjoyable on many levels for me to continue to watch it. The only other TV series, not Macross related, that I have watched to completion are: Neon Genesis Evangelion R.O.D. the TV (I started this series after enjoying the OVA so much) Basilisk Other anime(OVAs and movies) of note that I really like in no particular order: Gunbuster, Gunbuster2 Ghost in the Shell Appleseed Akira Patlabor I & II Gundam 0083 Stardust Memories Wings of Honneamise Nausicaa Metal Skin Panic Madox-01 Bubblegum Crisis Lupin III Steamboy Project A-ko Memories Spirited Away Howl's Moving Castle Porco Rosso Yukikaze Blood:The Last Vampire Ninja Scroll R.O.D (OVA) Metropolis Blue Submarine No. 6 A good method to seek out new stuff is to research the studios or individual creators who did the stuff you enjoy already. I tend to enjoy most things from studios such as Gainax, Studio Ghibli, Studio Nue(obviously ), Gonzo, Production IG. You could also go by creators/directors/writers such as Shoji Kawamori, Masamune Shirow, Hayao Miyazaki, etc. Obviously, there is still much out there that is probably very good IMO, but I just haven't watched it yet. I've probably even neglected to mention some others that I have watched and enjoyed.

I don't see what was so bad about Macross Zero. I thought it was rather cool. Why do some people hate it so much? -
Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series
sharky replied to BoBe-Patt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's all about expectations and standards. Generally speaking, the standard for a theatrical feature is much higher with respect to plot, cinematography, costume designs, script, etc. Granted this is all animated, so in this case the animation quality should have been much higher for the theater IMHO. I would have preferred less stylized character designs for a feature length movie. I would expect a Lucasfilm release to be on a much higher level as say some Pixar features. The plot and script could have been better IMHO as well. For a weekly TV series I would expect the story to unfold at a slower pace over the entire season for the show. Having the time to go into little side stories here and there is all good stuff. Spending time on character development and history are the things I want in a TV series that you can't get in a movie. For an action movie I want to be wowed and have a compelling story that leaves me satisfied at the end. The second a movie ends we all immediately have the feeling that a movie was just so-so or completely awesome. I did not get that completely awesome feeling that the end of the Clone Wars movie. Whereas for a TV show I can live with an episode not being so great. There's always another one next week.- 1217 replies

I'm not really into the GI-Joe scene so much. I find it's expensive enough to collect Macross stuff as it is. However, if I come across something I think is pretty cool I'll get it. I cannot really make an informed comment on how the articulation is compared to the 25th anniversary Joes. Although I am not the type of person that must keep everything mint in box, I wasn't planning on opening them at the moment. I took some close up pics as best as I could take them. All I really know is that I was browsing Walmart and there they were. I looked around the toy dept for any of the other things depicted on the back of the figure, but no such luck. All they had was Elias and Barnes. I'm going to keep checking every week or so to see if they get anything else. From the 21st Century Toys website the regular Vietnam era figures came out in October 2007, and the Platoon versions look slightly modified and re-packaged on Platoon branded cards. I can't say for sure when they actually got released. I believe they tried to create the likeness of each character; although, the Sgt. Elias doesn't look very much like William Defoe to me. The hair is wrong IMO. The Sgt. Barnes does look like the movie character complete with the large scar on his cheek. The prototype figures on the back of the card look horrible while the real figures look great IMO.

This is only going to be of interest to those in the Atlanta area. I checked with Books Japan in Smyrna, GA. I found them at Japanfest last week. In any case, I inquired about a Macross Chronicles subscription. Here is the breakdown. 1 yr subscription is $295.96 ($12.32 per issue) They can deliver to your home for an extra $5 per issue ($120 per year) The thing is, ordering from HMV in a batch of 5 at a time breaks down like so: 5 issues is $50.56 shipped ($10.11 per issue shipped) (express shipping) That would be about $242.68 per year roughly. I suppose the only nice thing is that I could get it as it comes out every 2 weeks. But, then I would still need to make the trek down there, and it's kind of out of the way for me to go there. If I can talk them down to the equivalent price as HMV I will go ahead and do it. Otherwise I will simply be patient and get my batch in every couple of months.

I thought this thread would be the most appropriate for my post. I haven't collect GI-Joes since I was a kid, so I'm not really in the know anymore. Didn't know if this was news to anyone or not. I was at Walmart the other day and saw a line of GI-Joe type action figures but of characters from the movie Platoon. They are actually part of 21st Century Toy's The Ultimate Soldier X-D line of figures. Tons of extras, and cheap at $4 and change. At the store I was at in the Atlanta area, they had Willaim Defoe as Sgt. Elias and the guy that played Barnes. On the back of the card they had several other characters and a 1:18 scale Huey and a tank as well. I like stuff of the Vietnam era, I'm a fan of the movie, and I'm a bit of a movie collectible collector, so I picked them up.

You all make some good points with respect to performance. I just haven't reached my comfort level with prices of the PS3 or any stand alone Blu-ray player. That's why even after 1 year of owning a 1080p TV I still haven't taken the plunge into Blu-ray. It's kind of silly when you think about the fact that I will spend that kind of money to buy Yamato toys and SOC Gunbusters, but I hesitate on the Blu-ray. I suppose I will just continue to wait and see as I have been. There's always Christmas and birthdays to justify splurging on a luxury item.

I'm not quite sure I understand. I thought the PS3 was priced around $300 at the extreme low end(more like $400 on average). I have read reviews that put the PS3 as a very good Blu-ray player. One of the reasons because you can update the firmware making it just about future proof. The Insignia I mentioned is going for $229, and I don't even think it's a sale price. While it's not in the same league as the PS3, that's a huge price difference in my book. The thing is, I'm not really into games anymore (my last system was a PS1). I can't see myself spending extra money to get the ability to play games when all I want is to watch hi-def movies. I've been keeping my eye on Blu-ray since I got my 1080p television last year. Getting below the $200 mark is simply my own personal feeling on when I would feel OK to get one. I'm also waiting to see which players are easily hackable with respect to region code. For me, it's not that I couldn't just go out and get a high end player, but I am simply the type of person that doesn't like to blow all kinds of money. A penny saved is a penny earned in my book(that sounds corny, I know). Why spend more than you really have to? It just means that I'll have more money to spend on other things that I want or need. Hey, I'm a cheap bastard I'll admit it. What's music to my ears is that in the early part of 2008 Panasonic and Sony seem to have been in a price war and started to drop their prices on Blu-ray players. Blu-ray sales have actually decreased since they beat out HD as the format of the future. This has been attributed to the slow economy and the fact that Blu-ray discs and players are still priced out of the range of the average consumer who seems to still be content with their standard def DVDs and players. Blu-ray needs to lower prices to entice the average consumer to switch IMHO. Some consumer experts even feel players need to get closer to the $100 price range before sales really take off. This seems to have been the trend all year, and I predict will come to a head on Black Friday 2008.

Bandai/Tamashi Nations 1/100 lineup. 2009 takeoff!
sharky replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I was wondering why it looked different than the one on the top left corner. Actually, I think the 1/100 battriod looks better than the 1/60. Even just comparing both prototypes to the character art pic on the same page you can tell the 1/100 has better proportions. -
What is with Frontier with old crippled people?

Just put everyone in exo-gear. Problem solved. -
Good point, but with those shows you were able to get in on the ground floor. Even BSG started from scratch essentially. If the main characters didn't show any angst it would seem illogical given that they know the end of civilization as we know it is coming. However, I do agree that the whole emo thing and feeling sorry for yourself does get a bit old. Heck they even managed to turn Cameron emo. I never did like the John Connor character in T2. I thought his character in T3 was not bad. I guess my interest in the past movies has carried me through the series, and if I wasn't already a fan this series wouldn't have been the thing that brought me in.
