Here is a scan which shows a sketch of one of the leg interior and the layout. You will notice the concert hall, so that might give you a sense for the size. Perhaps the other leg, which wasn't shown in the book I have, is laid out more densely as apartments. You can see various levels below the "ground level" which may have more living space perhaps, or maybe it's mechanical areas for the engine. Maybe you guys can draw some conclusions from this pic.

That's what she said.

I've said it before on other threads. I would very much like modern 1:18 scale action figures (ala GI-Joe or Star Wars style) and a 1:18 scale Valk (non-transforming if need be). Maybe some 6"-7" Zentrans and Metrans fully articulated action figures with various mecha for them to pilot. As well as, a 12" doll of Millia with flight suit, and a Zentran with battle armor. Various starships (UN Spacy, Zentran, and Meltran) with electronic lights and sounds in the size range of the Star Trek toys. Various canons from hero and enemy mecha and infantry troops in the appropriate size for a person to hold with light and sound effects. Perhaps even of the airsoft variety. Maybe a full blown Zentradi armor costume that a person could wear. Basically, I would like to see some American merchandising of Macross, as if that were even possible. Most of these ideas are the types of stuff being done for other sci-fi franchises.

I'm being reminded of that episode of the Simpsons where the entire town of Springfield got sick because a guy in Japan sneezed in Homer's package. Maybe I should irradiate my VF-11b before I open it.

I remember seeing a documentary or reading something about Star Trek in that there is a Star Trek bible that the writers reference. IIRC this was created very early on. It defines a lot of parameters of the Star Trek universe. Not just with technologies but all the alien races and cultures as well. I think that's why the franchise has evolved so well IMO. There is a guide to keep the writing in check, so you don't see too many inconsistencies with technology, etc in the various series.

I dunno, a remake of Total Recall might be a good thing. I thought the production, screenplay, special effects, etc of the movie sucked a$$. It is a good story IMHO, but was executed so badly. Paul Verhoeven is such an overrated filmmaker IMO. I get that his movies are supposed to be satires, but it just comes across as cheesy B-movie fluff. I would have loved for a James Cameron or Ridley Scott to do this movie. If Neil Moritz is the producer I wonder who will actually direct it. The article mentions Original, as in Original Productions I presume. That would be interesting since I believe Original does all those reality bases shows like Deadliest Catch and Ax Men.

Terminator Salvation, colon, Really Long Movie Title

Something is bugging me though. The website has 2 listings for the 1/12 one of which has "Type 2" in the title while the other does not. The only difference I can see is that the Type 2 has the plasma rifle while the other does not. There is also another Aoshima listed as 1/9 scale which is around the same price as the 1/12, and it looks much shinier as well. I guess what bothers me is that the 1/9 seems to be an awesome deal compared to the 1/12 versions. Something doesn't add up. 1/12 endo http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10088747 1/12 endo Type 2 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10088748 1/9 endo http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10088522 -
So am I to understand that you can buy an assortment of 1/60 scale pilots and characters for various Yamato valks and destroids?

Looks cool. But, is it a pre-built model or do you have to put it together and paint? -
Yeah, at first I was thinking they secretly set-up shop in various locations around the town. I thought otherwise after the Joe team blew up the entire town. I guess that was the logic with calling the town Springfield, since many Springfield's exist in the US. It just seems very implausible that Cobra could actually set up an entire town like that without arousing suspicion from some authority somewhere.

Yeah, the McFarlane one is a nicer sculpt by far. I'm not sure what it originally retailed for, but I was only able to find one for $79.95 on Amazon and another for $48.95. That's just way to much for a figure that small. The only draw back IMO on the McFarlane one is that the gun is too small. -

OK, I was able to, finally, take some pics and post them. This is the appox. 6" T-800 made by NECA. IMO, it's way better than the new Terminator Salvation toys. The closest thing to this in the new toy line is the 6" T-R.I.P. It is a pretty good figure for the price. I got it for $14 and change. The articulation is excellent, and it can pretty much hold any pose you wish. It has various pistons that can move in and out. The hip joints are ball jointed, and the 2 thigh pistons on each leg move in and out and move along with the leg in whatever position you put it in. The 2 waist pistons move, the 2 bicep piston move as well as the 2 neck pistons. There is articulation in the toes as can be seen in the pics. The jaw can be opened and closed as well. You can see in the various pics how the pistons are hinged in order to move with the figure. The figure is made of a soft plastic material although it is quite rigid. You may notice in some pics that the pistons are bent. Once you get it in the pose you like, you can straighten out any bent pistons. It's just that as you flex a joint you might have to be mindful that the pistons may decide to bend rather than slide in or out. I like that the fingers, while not articulated, are separated. It comes with an extra hand molded in a gun grip. Notice in the pics that the individual trigger finger can be placed properly. The gun does fit rather loosely in the hand, but you can get it to aim straight without too much fuss. The fact that the finger can go into the trigger hole helps keep it from tipping forward or back. I love the detail in the base as well. It was a nice touch to include it. I also have the 18" version that I will post another time. I should probably update this with side by side pics to show how much better this one is over the Playmates toys It will have to wait till later since my NECA is guarding my computer at work. -
FYI, Toys R Us is having free shipping sale on Star Trek toys. http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kw...LQBYFC-AKO6Q-v1

Yeah, the Dagobah X-wing is a good one, and it's reasonable in price. EE has it in stock. http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo...?number=HS32459 I believe Wedge's Red 2 X-wing is coming out this year, but I'm not exactly sure when. It should be basically the same thing as Luke's Dagobah one. http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=11550 The POTF F/X X-wing is pretty cool as it has various lights and sound effects. It is in scale with the figures, but the pilot and R2 are not removable is they move and light up and are part of the effects features. Very good review Amazon Listing http://www.amazon.com/POTF-Electronic-Powe...g/dp/B000E3EE6O

Let's be fair. There are plenty of examples of good robots. I don't think it's anything cultural rather it just makes more compelling story telling to have bad robots running loose. Good=boring, Bad=exciting, it's been that way for a long time. There are plenty of bad robots in Japanese stories. In fact, all of the examples you mentioned are not really robots; rather, they are machines directly controlled by humans. Some good American robots of note:

Corrected You forgot to mention that they survived a direct hit from Zartan's rocket/grenade.

I'm now getting them from HLJ. It's slightly cheaper from the cover price, and the shipping is cheaper because I can use SAL. Takes much longer, but I got time.

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time

I wanna say that the catch phrase for Dolph when the alien says "I come in peace" was "You go in pieces" BANG! -
Back in Nov-Dec. 2008. I've yet to see anymore since. I have come across a Fang/Claw pack last week. I thought I would never see them in a store again, so you never know. They are an elusive bunch. I really wonder if it's just that people snatch them up so quickly, or that they are simply not being stocked on the shelves anymore.

I guess I have an odd sense of humor. I'm always doing stuff like that. That is, creating humorous (at least to me) alternate scenarios or endings to tv shows, movies, etc.

I have the 7" and the 18" NECA T-800s on order and on it's way. I should have it in a few days, and I'll let you know. From what I've been able to dig up online they are pretty good, and the price is reasaonable. I was able to get the 7" one for $14.39 and the 18" for $44.99. The 18" seems to have many moving pistons. Even the 7" is supposed to have some as well. They are part of the NECA Cult Classics line. Good review on the 7" NECA comparing it to the McFarlane one. http://www.oafe.net/monkey/cult3_endo.php 18" NECA http://www.necaonline.com/product/detail/39835 Youtube video of NECA 18" Here's the McFalarne one from Spawn.com: http://www.spawn.com/toys/product.aspx?product=2063 Toys R Us will be selling NECA T-800 as Arnold as seen in T2 "Listen to me very carefully" http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3549570 "Get down!" http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3549568 The strange thing is that from the description on the 2 TRU listings they are saying that the endoskeleton is part of the wave, but it's not listed for pre-order. It appears from various online stores that the NECA endoskeleton was released around Sept. 2006. I'm wondering if they will go ahead and release it again along with the Arnold ones since the movie is coming out. Honestly, I should have used the money I spent on some of these Salvation toys on these NECA ones. Seeing the Salvation ones made me wonder if there were any better ones out there. Sure enough, a little web search showed me the light. -
Question regarding the 2 Macross Perfect Memory Books. Besides the cover art being slightly different colors is there a difference in content between the 2?

Aw, I'm just having a bit of fun. I was just teasing because Gubaba mentioned he just now noticed Minmay wearing Misa's uniform. I actually like Misa as a character.
-
In Macross Ace she murders Misa and steals her identity. The funny thing is nobody seems to notice. Global takes a look at Minmay on the bridge and asks, "Did you change your hairstyle Misa?" Hikaru just shrugs his shoulders and laughingly says "That's our Minmay!" Everyone burst out in laughter. The End.
