I beg to differ. I thought District 9 was full of political and social commentary with some action thrown in to keep the audience engaged. My conclusion is that it was a platform to bring more awareness to apartheid not a platform to wow with special effects. If the were simply trying to wow audiences they would have spent more money on the special effects. It was a relatively low budget movie at $30 million.

WTF!! A new Battlestar Galactica film is in the works??!&
sharky replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yup, I'm a little surprised they didn't take the Ron Moore route. It seems like less of a gamble considering the huge following he had with the series, and we know how Hollywood hates to take any risks if they don't have to. -
The first Macross anything I had was the Revell model kits which branded all sorts of mecha from different things under the Robotech banner. But, the did have kits of a VF-1S and VF-1Js.

There seems to be very little traffic in the forums these days. Are the outages the reason, or is there just not the participation like there once was?

I saw a "no aliens" sign at the theater where the guy takes your ticket as though it was to inform you that aliens are not allowed in to see a movie I thought that was pretty clever. @ Ladic: I give a 5/5 for your avatar.

Yes, and we know what a steller job they did drawing SDFM. I think they brought anime magic to a whole new level. I put more stock in official line art than I do in the TV series.

If you buy them when they first are released they are pretty cheap. It's only when you are trying to pick up old issues that the ebay prices are jacked up. Since it's new Macross art by Mikimoto they are quite nice to have in a Macross collection. The art is very nice. There are tons of nice ads to look at as well. I don't know a lick of Japanese, but I like looking at the art of the comics as well as the colorful ads. Also, since it's a retelling of the original story, it's not that hard to follow the story even though they change things up a bit and you can't read the words. I'd have to go back to see if there is any kind of line art sketches or anything. Maybe someone else can refresh us as to the complete contents. Bottom line, if you are the type of person who likes to buy artbooks (as opposed to technical sketch books), then I would highly recommend picking this up as well. Also, since they don't come out very frequently you can probably get each issue as they are released and have a complete collection. Plus as a collectible I'm pretty sure they will go up in value, but that's never the reason why I would buy something Macross. I noticed you're in the Bay area. Aren't there Japanese shops/bookstores around that would have these in stock? It would be worth your while to go and check it out. I have to get all of my Chronicles and Macross Ace from online shops like HLJ or Nippon Export.

Here's some pics of upcoming waves. All I got to say is will they ever get Luke's or Han's face sculpted right. It's like there's some sort of curse on any sculptor that attempts their likenesses. They seem to do better with everyone else except the main characters. http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Whats...tion_125616.asp

How much is the Bandai Elintseeker 1984 Valkyrie MISB worth?

A woman has to be behind this I am certain of it. No single guy would think that way. No offense to any female Macross fans. -

I know, I know. It doesn't make any sense. I'm just pointing out the folly of trying to bring some common sense to a forum of die hard Macross fans. Nothing about this hobby makes any common sense. One thing is for sure, if he is married, his wife will surely remember him as the guy with that $1000 toy. -

He would probably spend it on booze, drugs, and a hooker. Tips on wisely spending $1000 has no place anywhere on this forum sir. You should know better than that. Besides, you forgot that he could buy $1000 worth of pudding. Ohhh, yeahhh... -
The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0
sharky replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
It's just the fact that I wouldn't buy something that wasn't pre-built. Even, if I could find one to buy. I don't want it bad enough to spend the 12,600 yen and commission someone to build it for me. OR You want the impossible. -

So, basically the situation is I will never own one. Thanks for the update. -
I hear ya. In fact I just got a large batch of them in yesterday. Woohoo! I got a shipping notice on July 22nd and they arrived on Aug. 11th. So, about 3 weeks from Japan to Atlanta, GA. That's about average speed for me. The shortest was about 1.5 weeks and the longest was 5 weeks. Now I'm caught up to issue 26. I will need to get a couple more binders on the next batch.

The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0

My question to you is...is that a pre-built resin kit or did you have to build it yourself? How much and where did you get it? -
Hobby Link Japan also has them, and you can use SAL shipping if you don't mind waiting. http://www.hlj.com/hljlist2/?Word=macross%...chpage=top_page

I'm not mocking. I'm just telling the truth. How can anyone see that figure and not think the same thing.
-
I totally agree with you. There is a place for the ball jointed torso, and this isn't one of them. The ball jointed torso looks good on clone troopers and other figures with armor. It does not look good with most regular clothed figures. Is it too much to ask for a regular ROTJ Luke with a soft goods cloak, blaster pistol, and lightsaber. BTW, they made Sammy Davis Jr. into a Star Wars figure. http://www.rebelscum.com/sdcc09/hasbro-sw/image76.asp

Since when did most toy companies care about pissing off convention exclusive owners?

I could never get into the M7 anime, but I like the VF-22S and the VF-17 a heck of a lot.

http://www.fighting118th.com/2009/07/23/sd...118-scale-f-14/ Edit: Never mind. I just noticed that you had the same link in your post. If you already had a good link to pics why are you asking? -
Heck yeah! I finally ordered one myself.
