I would agree that the effect of the fuel on humans was strange. It would have made more sense if they simply called it some kind of bio-weapon to use against humans which was my first thought. They could have done 2 different devices since the shack where they were refining the fuel also had alien weapons as well. It was inferred that the prawns lack of motivation to do anything about their plight was because they were drones or some sort of worker class. The leadership had died off for some unexplained reason. Christopher and his son seemed to be the only ones with higher intelligence to work on a plan to escape. It has been suggested(not in the movie) that perhaps Christopher only started to evolve after they were stranded due to the lack of any leadership in the group. I think the reason why they did not think to use weapons to defend themselves was two-fold. One, they were drones, so they were not directed by any leader to take arms. Two, they were in dire straights and beginning to starve to death. The humans started out by helping them and were not threatening at first. It was a gradual process that they began to confiscate the weapons and increase the level of control over them. I did not catch the part that the ship was a salvage ship. I may need to pay closer attention when I am able to watch it again. I think the hive idea is not exactly that there is 1 person to control the group. It was suggested that it was a group of leaders in charge of the ship. I wonder if on their home planet there are large groups of leader class prawns and perhaps various levels and specialties as well. The move does leave much to speculation and they try to keep the audience in the dark as if you are right there in the movie trying to figure it out with the rest of the humans. I think that was one reason why I liked it, and it seemed more interesting and "real" that way.

Did anyone see it on the 9th? I'm curious what people thought of it. I probably won't be able to go see it until next week.

Technology that you have bought that went nowhere...

I always chuckle when I see Shinji in Evengalion listening to music from his DAT player because apparently that was going to be the future of how kids listen to music. :lol -
True about the exo-suit I would think, but I was thinking more along the lines of what kind of performance the mothership would be capable of based on what the exo-suit could do. I mean, during the scene where they demonstrated the technology, they were firing high powered automatic weapons from pretty close range. Given that a child was operating it by remote it is pretty impressive stuff. I'm thinking they would probably be able to intercept a missile or even a high powered projectile fired at the mother ship and perhaps even re-direct it before coming into range of detonating. In any case, I wish they would have delved into that idea a bit more, but I think if they did the movie would have taken a different direction in the end.

I'm so starved for any kind of anime on the big screen that I'll go see whatever is on. Isn't Eureka Seven supposed to have mecha designs from Kawamori? That's a plus in my book. @ eugimon: I've never seen this movie, but I am also of the mindset that I need to make up my own mind.

Just wanted to get the word out about another Fathom events anime screening. As the title mentions it's Eureka Seven and it's only going to be 1 night and 1 showing on Thursday Sept. 24th. Yet, another chance to see anime on the big screen. I'm making a plan to go. http://www.ncm.com/Fathom/Anime/EurekaSeven.aspx

Interesting point you bring up. I wonder about that myself. What is the likelihood that a real alien would be humanoid? The way I see it there are 2 schools of thought. Creation vs evolution. In the case of a creation theory an alien would be made in the image of God as we Earthlings are. In the case of an evolution theory the best possible form would go on to survive and thrive. In our own example of Earth, our humanoid form seems to be the best design for long term survival. But, that is due to Earth's environment. So, I like to think that if a planet is similar to Earth then the aliens would be humanoid in nature. If the life form is capable of surviving on a very different planet where Earthlings cannot survive, then I would think that the alien would take on some strange form that is possibly very un-human like.

I don't know if they will make it to clearance. A few days later I decided to bite the bullet and just get it, but both were gone. My advice would be that if you really want it, buy it when you see it.

Thanks, deadghost, for bringing this anime to my attention. I will definitely need to check it out. I am always on the look out for visually great artistic anime works.

Thanks everyone for the pics. Mine's on the way, and now I can't wait after seeing the pics.

Just came back from Target and I spotted Wedge's X-wing. I would have picked one up, but it's $50! Ouch! I'll have to put a little money together before a buy it.

My only brush with working in China(Shanghai) was due to my company having offices and factories over there. I have some friends that ended up working in Shanghai pretty much permanently. He didn't know a lick of Chinese and only started to pick it up after working there for a couple of years. It was a management position, and he had local bi-lingual Chinese employees working under him. I think all the employees must know English as a general requirement to work in this company. So, my advice would be that if you don't know Chinese it may be easier to try to get in with an American company that has a large office in Hong Kong. If you do well in a company you may get a shot at going if there is a need for someone to go there and you show interest. A company may be eager to transfer you because it's been my experience that most American employees would prefer not to work in China full time. I'm not sure what your job skills are though. My advice may not be relevant for you. Maybe Graham can offer some more insight.

I think it has to do with The ending is open ended though, so it's fun to wonder what he will actually do.

I know what your talking about, but I don't think they had it. This thing caught my eye because I wasn't aware they were making it. It wasn't even with the Star Wars stuff. It was in another aisle with the educational toys. I just thought it was cool as it mimics Luke's binoculars from ANH.

At the very least it's not your run of the mill action movie.

But, I think that's why people liked it. I think they attempted to communicate a message in an entertaining way, and they succeeded IMO judging by the generally favorable response. I only saw it the one time, but I felt it was about 50/50 with the first half being the setup for the exciting climax and conclusion. Maybe, when I see it again, I will find that I am wrong on the 50/50 thing, but that's my take on it having seen it once.

Oh, heck yeah! One thing I noted when watching D9 was the fact that even though the alien offensive weapons are more advanced their defensive weapons did not seem to be insurmountable by earth's current tech. At least they did not show anything that would indicate energy shielding of some kind. An all out war between prawns and humans would totally rock and it wouldn't necessarily be a one sided fight.
