AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?

It's a habit/shortcut that I pick up for when I type up comments online. My non-use of capital letters doesn't flow over to my typing of documents for work. just for you. -
AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
DJ Loe Kee replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
^There are plenty of American remakes that are classics. Samurai 7/Magnificent 7 and Infernal Affairs/The Departed are examples (I haven't seen The Departed, Samurai 7 or Magnificent 7 but I'm going off of other people's reviews of them). I'm more into getting Americans to watch more subtitled movies. I remember when my friend told me that Point of No Return is a remake of La Femme Nikita. I've had Point of No Return on my "to watch" list for a while now (I have lots of movies on my "to watch" list that my parents didn't let me watch when I was younger). But after he told me that, I was like "I'd rather see the original. Even if the remake is a really good movie, remakes are never better than the original". I saw The Ring when it came and it is a good movie. But my Japanese friend/tutor from college told me that it was a Japanese movie. So i went out and bought a region-free dvd player and the U.K. release of the movie. The original is alot better than the American version (I saw the U.S. version first and I have no complaints about the movie). My mentality is to get ppl to quit complaining about subtitles and at least watch the original version once. I remember when me and my friends went to see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, we didn't know that it was subtitled. All my friends did was complain about it being in Chinese and saying that they gave up reading after 5 minutes. I read all the subtitles for the entire movie (this was my first time watching a subtitle movie and I was anti-subtitle or subtitle-phobic before this). Reading a subtitled movie won't kill anybody. After this, I asked one of the ppl (who said that he gave up reading the subtitles of this movie) if foreigners watch American movies in theaters (I know that the dvd version gets dubbed) subbed or dubbed overseas (his parents are military and were stationed in Europe and Asia when he was younger). He said that they are subtitled, that he used to watch them all the time overseas in the theaters and that he ignored the subtitles since he obviously understands English. So, ppl in Europe and Asia have no problems watching a subtitled movies but Americans act like they are going to die if they are forced to read a movie (my boss likes so say that they probably have poor reading skills. She also teaches at the local university here in town. She talks about students who she gave a reading test to so that she could help them improve their reading skills and pass her class; but that they really have no hope because they are at the reading level of a 5th grader or lower. No b.s.). So, it is nothing against against the remakes. It is more about ppl being more tolerant to foreign movies and releasing them on the big screen for us to watch; not always remaking the movie or dubbing the movie for us (they change the plot, character's lines, ect whenever it is dubbed. just watch Ghost In the Shell or Kung Fu Hustle subbed and then dubbed and you'll see what i mean. Akira is the same in the subbed and dubbed version). As I said, it's nothing against the remakes. Some of us just want to see a foreign movie on a theater's big screen sometimes. The few that they do show are few and very far inbetween (and if you don't live in one of the top 5 major markets then they may decide to skip my city, which is in the top 10, not top 5). But I still stand by my nuclear bomb analogy. I hate it when Hollywood takes a movie and "Americanize" it for us. Just educate ppl on other countries history and just don't focus on Greek, Roman, American history (and any history not involving these 3 parties is not important). Korea borrowed the idea of American Pie and they came up with Sex Is Zero. but Sex Is Zero is not an American Pie remake (it may not be an American Pie influenced movie but when my friend came home from his trip there and showed us the non-subtitled vcd, that is how he described the movie. Good thing he translated the movie for us [he thought the he had bought the dvd version, not the vcd version]). Also, my other friend showed me the Korean movie City of Violence and said that the idea came from Kill Bill (it even uses the same music from Kill Bill). But it is not a remake of Kill Bill, it is an original story. Not everything that Hollywood borrows from others has to be a remake (Stars Wars is a good example of Lucus borrowing the idea of samurais, turning them into jedi and making an original movie. Just look at Yoda, he speaks in subject-object-verb sentence order [i think, I haven't seen the movie in awhile]). -

hell. americans just need to accept anime as an acceptable form of entertainment for adults, not turn them into live action movies in an attempt to legitimize them. -

hell yea. i'm glad that it canceled too. having it take place in new york was blasphemous. the blast in the beginning in akira is based on the two 2 a-bombs that were dropped in japan. the only thing that ny has to compete with that is _________. new yorkers would protest if _________ was ever incorporated into a movie (i put the ______ in there so my post wouldn't get deleted. you can guess what i'm talking about). so, good riddance and i hope the other anime movies get dropped too. ninja scroll is bad ass, i don't need a live action version of it. my opinion changes if the japanese ever decide to make live action movies based on their anime like the death note live action movie. -
thanks. japan, korea, taiwan and most of s.e. asia is in the same region as the u.s. i just have to worry about chinese and european blu-rays
-
are dvd's and blu-ray's region-locked or will i have to add a region-free blu-ray player to my collection (i already have a region free dvd player).

i don't know if this was a "legal" sale but i bought heavy gear II used from a used pc games retail store. luckily, the game isn't tied to one pc and i've been able to install it on my various pc builds. but i did lose my original content from one of my pc crashes (i was stuck on one certain level so i'm sure that i can make it back there). anyways. i too don't buy used software anymore. i'm sure that the pc software companies now have ways to prevent this (and the reason why i never registered the sims or the sims hot date expansion pack (but i saved my game data this time around).

there's always the used game market. i finally bought all of the ps2 games that i couldn't afford while in college for about $5-$15 (i did get a couple of them new from amazon and gamestop tho'). now, if only i had the money for a ps3. the only games i want to so far is gt5 and ffviii (and maybe tomb raider and gta4). those are long games to start off with so i don't mind buying them new. i got cod4 & company of heroes free with my xfx 8800gts g92 video card and farcry 2 free with my intel q9550 processor but i haven't even installed them yet. i prefer the ps2/ps3 controller over the mouse and keyboard (and i paid for cs 1.6, cs zero and cs source from steam but i also haven't installed them yet too). i hear that gt5 will be out by october. but i will be in korea by then. does anybody know if i could buy a ps3 there, bring it home after my contract is over and buy/play u.s. ps3 games or is it region-locked?

it's actually hard to learn. i've never drifted in real life (there are no race tracks to drift here. and don't street drift kids.) but it took me a couple of days to figure out how to drift in gran turismo 4. http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=57146 http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=72878 http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/t-21809.html i see it more as a "style and presentation sport" like olympic diving and olympic gymnastics. it's not in the same league as olympic swimming (racing) and olympic track & field but it's still fun to watch. i have an old option vhs tape that shows "illegal" street drifting in the rain on japanese streets at night. a car would lose control every now but all of the other cars would just "drift" around him instead of crashing into the car. the pros in d1gp build their cars for traction. beginners are the ones who build their cars to lose traction and put "used balding tires" on their rear tires. and it comes in handy when in circuit racing in gt4. i might take a curve too fast and i hit the grass. the grass causes my car to lose traction and spin in circles. put i use my drifting techniques to to keep my car sliding sidewards instead of spinning in endless circles and i get right back on the track. depending on how far ahead i was, the cars involved, which lap it was and what parts i have equipped; i can still catch the other cars and win the race. not always tho', that is if i get lucky ('cause usually you have to drive a perfect race in order to win some of the higher level races). drifing began as "illegal" time attacks down lonely mountain roads in japan. loosing traction was taboo. but after a couple of years, it became acceptable to lose traction in a turn and gain traction right back. slowly, it became acceptable to lose traction for longer and longer periods of time. then, somebody figured out that they could take multiple winding mountain turns (like s-curves) without traction. so, drifting was actually born out of "illegal" night racing on the mountain roads in japan. you can blame superstreet for telling the u.s. about drifting. http://www.superstreetonline.com/index.html my first superstreet that i bought (June 2002/Weird Science: 730hp Skyline-Powered Top Secret Supra [rb26dett]/Drift 101: Get Schooled, Get Sideways, Get It Together, Man/Japan's Top Drifters) had 10-20 pages dedicated to drifting. this was also the issue that first introduced me to the Nissan Silvia S15 (and how to turn a 240sx into a turbo-powered 180sx/silvia). this guy is retired professional race car driver (JGTC & D1GP [D1 Grand Prix - the top professional drift competition in Japan and it is extremely popular over there.), "Drift King" Keiichi Tsuchiya. watch him drift a "old american hotrod?!?" around two people w/o injuring them. on another note, i heard that the japanese suspended his driving license for some driving/drifting violation (this was after he tired from professional racing and drifting). so that means that only dodge and jeep would be left??? dodge has most of the sports cars anyways. what's goin' to happen to viper, are they still trying to sell it or drop it completely? i like the ford gt40 anyways so it really don't care about the viper. -

i don't even know what the "car of tomorrow" is and you can tell that i don't watch nascar. but whenever i do turn on nascar, i never recognize the cars. i can't even tell what company the are from. i did knew that they were one piece body shells, but i referred to them as bodykits (oops, wrong terminlogy, my bad). -

i'm talking about a wing that actually functions. you can tilt the wing in one direction to increase its top speed or you can tilt the wing in the other direction to increase its handling (an adjustable wing, not fixed spoiler). you adjust the wing differently for every race course and what attributes you are striving for. it's not all about downforce. -

whatever. like i said, what is ugly to you is not ugly to me. um, those bodykits ard used in JGTC (Japan Grand Touring Car Championship & Silvia's are raced in the GT300 category. next time don't get involved in a subject or country that you know nothing about). something that you don't understand is that those wings and kits and actually used on race cars (and they sell them to the public to fund their race "toys") http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...s=1244302361047 http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=J...s=1244302770448 and creating a bodykit that doesn't create downforce is plain stupid. look at nascar, they don't use the bodykits that come from the ford, gm or chrysler factory. they have custom body kits. debate over. i won't respond to you anymore whether you think my taste in cars is acceptable to you or not. -

it's all personal preference. i like bomex http://bomexaeroco.com/bomex/index.php http://www.bomex.jp/index.jsp (everybody copies there designs so you've probably seen some ricer with a cheap bomex knockoff). c-west http://www.c-westusa.com http://www.c-west.co.jp/index.html gp sports http://www.gpsports.co.jp their bodykits for the 180sx's, silvia s13's, silvia s14's and silvia s15's are the ones i pay attention for. i won't post pics 'cause i can't guarantee that you will like what i want on my next 240sx project car. a 240sx with lazy eyes and a bodykit looks so sexy to me. ^bodykit maker unknown a 240sx u.s. version (the 96-98 kouki factory taillights, underbody spoilers and wing looks tight but the u.s. didn't get this model) looks so plain w/o a bodykit. i want to full c-west bodykit, hood and carbon-fiber wing (a wing that actually creates downforce) (that's after i do a sr20det engine swap, add 300zx brakes, add a coilover set, add a lsd and other engine upgrades). so lets end the debate. i like what i like and you like what you like. veilside has the ugly bodykits (my opinion, some ppl like their crazy, off the wall designs. fact, veilside sold more bodykits once they want with crazy designs vs. the simple, conservative designs that bomex, c-west, gp sports and others use). i do like veilside rims tho'. http://www.veilside.com http://www.veilside.co.jp -
i just want to add on that everybody is predicting a $100 price drop either in july or october (it's already june so my guess is october).

gran turismo psp won't have the function where you can buy car parts for your car and make it faster. http://psp.ign.com/articles/990/990283p1.html does this mean that every car will come with aftermarket parts already added? does this apply to changing your tire type too (racing, sport, medium, hard, soft, ect.)??? -

japanese bodykits are win. the are tested in a windtunnel and the racetrack so that they actually increased the aerodynamics of a car/jgtc race car (this is why the japanese companies complain about americans buying pieces of their kit and not the whole package as this ruins the areodynamics that they engineered). most u.s. bodykits usually decrease a car's aerodynamics, they're just for looks. i don't like veilside, their bodykits look too crazy. but i do like c-west and bomex.
