The PlayStation 3 Thread 80GB Edition
DJ Loe Kee replied to Gaijin's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
here are two videos. the first video on how to replace it. and the 2nd video on how to back up your files, replace it and format the new hard drive. i can't find the video from the ps3 '06 release that shows both of these in the same vid (i like that vid the best, it was really well put together). -
dubs are terrible for 2 reasons. 1. they always hire the cheapest voice actors. if it isn't shrek or any other movie like that, than we won't see any good voice actors in the credit. 2. they ALWAYS rewrite the story. i have ninja scroll and ghost in the shell and they say different things in the japanese version than they say in the english version. sometimes, they changed the script a little bit for the english version (ninja scroll). sometimes, they rewrite entire scenes (ghost in the shell). the major character in ghost in the shell quotes the bible at the end of the movie but the took this out for the english version and she doesn't says something completely different. also, remember the guy who thought his wife and daughter were real and not imaginary? well, they explained what happened to him usin' two different scripts in ghost in the shell. the english version took liberty with this and rewrote the entire movie. akira is the only movie that i own where the dubs and the subs are the same. trust me, i have these 3 movies memorized 'cause i watched them over and over in english until i decided to watch them in japanese one day. 3. my fansubs have better subs than my retail akira, ninja scroll and ghost in the shell dvds. i paid alot of money for them (all special edition dvds, not the regular priced dvd) and i can't read the subs when the scene background color is a light color. my fansubs are PERFECT. my retail dvd's subs are either white letters or yellow letters. my fansubs subs are white letters with a BLACK BORDER so that you can still read them when the background is a light color. so why is the professional subs non-readable but my amateur subs are readable??? 4. i got ripped off on my retail ninja scroll widescreen (i have the non-widescreen version too, yes, i have two retail dvds of the same movie) version 'cause they CUT OFF THE TOP AND BOTTOM OFF THE PICTURE!!! so, what did i learn. don't buy anime dvds unless i rent them first (manga is WRONG for the widescreen ninja scroll and they should refund everybody their money). so i don't see adv doin' a better job with those dvds. if they were to release those dvds, then they would include a japanese audio/english subtitle option on them. why should somebody buy them if they don't have somebody to do quality control over the subs and review them to ensure that the customer can read 100% of the subs. yea, that's 4 reasons. my 3rd and 4th reason is not directed at adv 'cause i have never viewed an adv dvd. that's more directed at manga ent. and pioneer video. i'll stick to my korean/chinese/japanese live action movies, at least those subs appear in the "black" area underneath the widescreen picture and i can read 100% of those subs. yea, i still buy dvds but i want a QUALITY product. you didn't mention the quality of the adv subs but from my experience i would expect them to be on the same level of manga ent. and pioneer.

Southern Cross & Genesis Climber Mospeada
DJ Loe Kee replied to msterling21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
exactly. i don't see any "bitching about $25" either. i haven't seen mospeada since i was 8-10 years old (i watched it when it originally aired in the early-middle 80's) and i the only thing that i can remember about the show is that they had those transformin' motorcycle mechas. i know what exactly what happened in macross & sc 'cause cartoon network aired them around 97-99 (they didn't show the new generation, they skipped it and went back to the macross saga instead). i know what happens in sdf macross 'cause i dl it and i have it on dvd. i ordered animeigo but rt.com pissed me off 'cause they rejected my order and i said "fcuk them, i'll save my $35, i don't have $35 to burn on dvd's ANYWAYS" (they better still have them in stock when i do have $35 to burn). so, w/o seein' mospeada or the japanese version of sc, all that i can do is tell somebody is to watch it before they buy it. if he is like me, than he probably can't remember what happened in rt, transformers, gi joe, ninja turtles, voltron or speed racer except for a couple of scenes (transformin' motorcycle mechas, a girl who has green blood so she can't be human and a scene where it shows a naked girl... maybe it was the same girl with green blood). shiet, i rented akira, ninja scroll and ghost in the shell numerous times before i finally bought them on dvd. but i bought my wife is gangster, shadowless sword, never to lose and she's on duty (ok, so she's on duty was my free dvd that i received) w/o havin' seen them before and i got lucky that i liked my choices (all korean import dvd's, i didn't buy a region free dvd player for "show"). sorry, but with all of the negative reviews on sc on the net, i cannot guarantee that he will like a series that "got canceled when it was runnin' in japan" (just a rumor that it was canceled, i'd have to find website again). -
steal my idea, i want to see my x-men show on hbo with an r/m rating. 1. buy the x-men, x-factor, x-force, excalibur and any other x-/mutant title license from marvel. then, i would do the same thing that the japanese do when they turn a manga series into a anime tv series and i would start with x-men number 1 as a new anime show (i can even make a marvel style animated show for ppl who don't want their x-men to have "huge anime/manga eyes). there are so many issues of the x-titles that i could make the show an hour long, show it once a week 52 times a year and never catch up with marvel. and my version would be for adults, not kids like the past x-men cartoons. violence, blood, sex and romance for the people who grew up on marvel comics and stopped readin' them when they "grew up" (or just fell behind and quit buyin' issues). 2. my own original team of mutants drawn anime style with no relation to marvel's universe. my team of mutants would be more like x-force than the x-men. they see nothin' wrong with killin' off evil mutants and super villains (like x-force) while some other mutant teams only want to stop their attacks (like x-men). 3. my own mecha series 'cause i love giant robots. my series is more unorganized like the x-men. the year is like, 3052 so that mechas are cheaper to build. the military have mechas but so do large corporations and businesses. some people who are middle to high income have also bought their own mechas. havin' a mecha is not illegal but buyin' arms for it is. this is where it gets interestin'. their is a black market for arms for your mecha. anything can happen, large corporations wage "underground wars" against their competition tryin' to take their rivals out of business permanently . then you can have rich individuals that join a "fight club" just for the adrenaline rush. then you have those who ban together in small armies for their own goals. some armies fight to protect the world and some armies fight to take over the world. so the series can focus around an underground army that fights to protect the world. their enemies can be anybody who misuses their mecha. 3. i guess that i could do a "crazy" series. it would have giant mechas like macross, gundam and full metal panic!; super heroes and mutants like x-men; shinigami's like bleach and death note, ninjas and samurais like naruto, ninja scroll and rurouni kenshin. just think of it as a giant anime universe (like a marvel/dc universe) where you can never guess what will happen. you can have an entire squad of mechas about to be killed when all of the sudden a joint team of ninjas, samurais and mutants show up and join the fight. then the shinigamis have to get involved 'cause they hired the team of mechas that are now out numbered by the other mechas, ninjas, samurais and mutants. or anything else that i can think of.

what we need is a netflix clone for subbed anime (the anime selection at blockbuster suxs. i don't have netflix so i have no comment on their subbed anime selection). not everybody is brave enough to order dvd's that they haven't seen before. i ordered 3 dvd's from yesasia.com and they gave me a free dvd. i liked 2 out of the 3 dvd's that i bought, the third one is ok imho. the free dvd is actually good, i thought that it was goin' to sux since it was a "free dvd". -

super dimension calvary southern cross http://www.anime-eden.com/page/premium/ani...177/series.html genisis climber mospeada is listed under its japanese name, kikou soseiki mospeada http://www.anime-eden.com/page/premium/ani...370/series.html and from the creators of macross and southern cross, the third part in the trilogy (unrelated trilogy), super dimension century orguss (harmony gold decided to use mospeada as the third part of the story instead of orguss) http://www.anime-eden.com/page/premium/ani...039/series.html super dimension century orguss 02 http://www.anime-eden.com/page/premium/ani...326/series.html from the makers of mospeada, megazone 23 (part 1) http://www.anime-eden.com/page/premium/ani...729/series.html i think this is the megazone 23 (part 2 & 3) that i dl'ed (it's aight, part 1 is the best ova). the hard drive that it is on is out of service right now http://www.mininova.org/tor/726422 a-e premium anime http://www.anime-eden.com/page/premium/anime a-e members forum section for more anime dl (like license stuff that they can't keep on their main servers so members ul it) http://www.anime-eden.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=140 a-e members post their websites with more dl's http://www.anime-eden.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=21 -
i hate robotech. the only black person in robotech: the macross saga got killed off by harmony gold. notice that she (or anybody else in the bridge) didn't die in the japanese version. g.i. joe had it's drama, duke went into a coma 5-6 times.

DJ Loe Kee replied to msterling21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
you might want to watch southern cross before you buy it (alot of ppl don't like it, even with japanese audio/english subs. i heard a rumor that it was canceled in japan and it was supposed to be longer than 23 episodes at first). i don't remember mospeada (i was like 6 or 8 when it originally aired and i just remember the bikes) 'cause cartoon network didn't air robotech: the new generation). sc and mospeada are both hosted on anime-eden.com with subs by A.S.S. A.S.S are NOT fansubbers, they rip hong kong dvds and sometimes the english subs are terrible. i have megazone 23 (the whole trilogy) ripped by A.S.S. and they did a good job, i have english and japanese audio plus english subtitles. i was goin' to refer you to discountanimedvd.com for region free import dvds but they only have the adv dvds for those two series and rightstuf has the same dvd box sets for half the price. -
so they are mixin' macross and the sirens of greek mythology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siren http://www.crystalinks.com/sirens.html http://homepage.mac.com/cparada/GML/SIRENS.html and for the video, vlc player plays just about every codec. http://www.videolan.org/vlc i might try those other video players tho'.

i got all of my macross episodes from www.anime-eden.com, you'll need premium tho'. i got sdf macross off of torrent but i posted the torrent on a-e forums and now it's on their premium servers. flashback 2012 has no subs tho'. if you're talkin' about a dvd set, you can get the import dvd here. http://www.discountanimedvd.com/detail.asp...ateName=Macross it's encoded for region 1-5.

DJ Loe Kee replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
yep, from a layman's point of view, it is very good work. i think that the original star wars trilogy where lucas went back and added cg/3d models to 70's and 80's film is a better example. the 3d models stick out like a sore thumb and you notice them right away. they don't blend in with the original film and look like they were made 20 years ago. a perfect example is the endin' to return of the jedi where he added new scenes that were completely cg/3d and you notice it right away when it switched from an original scene to an added cg/3d scene. that to me is terrible use of cg/3d work (i'm goin' to buy the original dvd's w/o the added cg off of ebay some day). i'm no pro but i can spot them right away. macross f blends in perfectly to me. and i'm 100% sure that i'm right by sayin' that macross f tries to look "polished" to the everyday fan, not people with an intermediate to advanced cg/3d background. the girl on the right in the black dress is fine/hot. i already made my star wars comment i agree, that's like debatin' which song is better and the choices are an r&b song, a hip hop song, a ska song, an emo song, a punk song, a metal song, a country song, a jazz song, a pop song, a j-pop song, a c-pop song, a k-pop song, a trance song, a house song, a drum 'n' bass song, a jungle song and a breakbeat song. most people will chose the song of the genre that they like. yea, for a tv series it looks real good. i've watched full metal panic!, death note, d.gray-man, naruto shippuuden and bleach... and macross f looks better than those series. and lets not forget the roots of anime. all of the styles in anime that we like came about 'cause they had small budgets and they came up with ways to overcome these short comings. one example of this is when they have a still (un-animated) scene where they just pan the recordin' camera from left to right (or any other direction) to give us the false appearance of animation. i still enjoy low budget animation as long as it looks ok (notice that i didn't say suberb) and it has a good story (and anything that makes a good series). yea, i came up on old school anime like sdf macross, genesis climber mospeada, voltron (hyakujuu-ou golion), speed racer (mach go go go) and some other anime that i didn't realize was anime back then (i still run across old series that i vaguely remember like science ninja team gatchaman 'cause i recognize their helmets). i know some people don't like wiki as a source but i don't feel like googlin' for a better source. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_anime when i listen to music, i just have to sit back and ENJOY it. i can really start to break it down and say "i would have done this" or "i would have added this". it's just one of the negatives of bein' a semi-pro or pro, you start to lose the enjoyment of your craft that the average fan still enjoys. -
the safest part on the fleet's main ship is the bridge, unless you happen to be the villian. captain's, admiral's and their crew are never injured but i can't say the same thing for the civilians that have to evacuate to the shelter on the same said ship.

i'm guessin' that you make your own 3d art from your "posting my own works" quote. professional as in paid, then i'm along the same boat. i've never been paid for my creations and i'll still be makin' music even if i never make any money from it. i started for the art sake, not the money sake of it. i'm pretty much self taught except for a college piano class (and band class in middle class). i feel you on the technical artist/slave part. i've been avoidin' goin' into music engineerin' and stay focused in the music creation aspect for some of the same reasons (like the reason that i can just pay somebody to master my stuff). my ears are stronger than my eyes, i would have never caught the things that you caught. . plus, when i read subtitles, i miss alot of the graphical details but i still prefer subs over dubs (i try to catch the graphical details on my 2nd or 3rd watchin'). i couldn't watch a raw like you. the only raw i've seen is the korean movie "sex is zero" but me and my friends had my friend translate everything for us (we would scream for him to come back if he left the room for a quick second.) -

help me design the extior graphics of my new drift car
DJ Loe Kee replied to deadghost's topic in Fan Works
that's gonna look tite, a skyline with macross art on it. i always had an idea to put a valkyrie on my car, the fighter jet on one part, gerwalk on another part and battroid on another part. and these 3 parts were the side, hood and maybe roof. i saw a pic of an import with a dragon ball z toon firin' off his "fire ball" and it glowed in the dark. so my idea was to have maybe gerwalk on the side/door/rear fender. there would be missiles towards the front of the car and you could see the smoke trail in-between the two. battroid could go on the hood and the fighter jet could be on the roof. i sold my 240sx hatchback (180sx) 'cause it had too many problems when i first bought it (clutch, electrical, no a/c and i was broke at the time, i want another tho'.) you'll buildin' a drift car, i want to build a drift car too. good luck. dang, i knew that motorex was gettin' investigated but i didn't know all that. and i thought that they crash tested 32's and 34's, i heard a rumor that they tried to get permission to bring over s15's but they failed the crash test. hmm, kit car, that's better than bein' a show/race car. that's a loophole to finally bring over a s15 for myself. -

i tried to make my samsung dvd player region free but the codes on the net didn't work. my gameshark wouldn't play my u.k. dvd's of ringu 'cause i needed a ntsc/pal converter. but it think gameshark might work for my new korean dvds. i never tried the firmware/software to make my pc's dvd burner region free 'cause i didn't want to break my dvd burner. -
i've always wanted to see macross after my friend had me watch his vhs tape of dyrl. i remember him tellin' me, rick's real name is hikaru. about 4 or 5 years ago, i googled macross and macrossworld is the first site that comes up. i've been here alot but i've used to look at the yamato valk toys all of the time and scroll though and see how many macross video games have been released. i even looked at the bootleg toys and video games section. i've finally made an account so that i can post on the forum.

i have a region free dvd player, it's been modded to play regions 1-8 and ntsc/pal dvds. it's the jvc xv-n330. stay away from daewoo, that was my first region free modded dvd player and it quit readin' all DISCS (cd's, dvd's). you can unlock some dvd players by enterin' an unlock code (google dvd unlock code, try a site, and look for your dvd player) but the code on the net didn't work on my samsung dvd-m101. my jvc was the same price as a region locked dvd player at wal-mart/bestbuy and alot of ppl had left good reviews on usin' the unlocked version. my game shark lets my change the region on my ps2 but i haven't tried it recently... i had some u.k. dvd's of some japanese movies and i needed a ntsc/pal converter for it to work (my jvc and daewoo has this built in). i've never used the firmware/software to unlock my pc's dvd burner 'cause i didn't want to take the chance of it breakin' my dvd burner.
