The only redeemable thing about Macross 2 for me is, of course, the sweet-looking Valkyries, Destroids, and enemy mecha. The story wasn't very good, the animation sucked, and the characters were not interesting. Ishtar's Marduk look kicks ass though! Although, what's with the ears?! Seems like they really relied on Mikimoto's style for Macross 2. I don't like the way he draws ears. Still, if what I've seen of Macross 7 is any indication, Macross 2 isn't so bad. I have this VCD of some Macross 7 mini-movie where Basara takes on this huge Zentraedi chick. Talk about cheesy beyond belief! The music thing in Macross 7 just doesn't work. And that lame concept about the Valkyries' controls being musical instruments. Man! WTF were they thinking?! Great-looking mecha, lousy concepts and story. I'm really glad that Macross Plus and Zero didn't follow those shameful atrocities.

I was checking out eBay and I came across the Macross Zero HK DVD's. Does anyone have these? Are they worth getting? They seem to be really cheap. I downloaded the 3 episodes so far on my computer, but I wanted something I could watch from my PS2. How is the video quality of the DVD's and how good are the English subtitles?

What episode is the scene from where Gir is dancing at the club/rave? I downloaded a fan-made movie that pays tribute to scenes with Gir, and that scene is in there. It starts off with Zim needing Gir to do something, but he's not answering, and he wonders where he could be, then the scene switches to Gir dancing. Also, I have another movie with that dance scene with different music, too. It's Gir dancing to "Mr. Wonderful" from the DDR games.

good taste and good call I actually have every zim episode ever stored convieniently on my pc. My pc even ports out to my tv so I can enjoy zim on three screens at once. Unfortunately my dumb ass sold the sound card out of my computer and zim just isn't the same without sound . And I just realized that the whole time I was trying to give fulcy videogames I could have just given him my zim collection [slaps head for not thinking]. Aside from the south park dvd's I got from chowser and "little nemo" my mom gave me for christmas, this will be my first real dvd purchase While were talkin 'bout zim... Whats everybodys favorite episode? For me it's sooooo hard to choose.... maybe "battle of the planets" but "girr goes crazy and stuff" was sooo good. Then again so was "lice" and "bloatys pizza hog". Wait... just remembered my favorite simply has to be "the wettening" I haven't seen all the episodes yet, but my favorite so far would have to be "Walk of Doom". Actually, any episode where Gir gets alot of airtime in the dogsuit is really hilarious, IMHO. My friend picked up the two different Gir in Dogsuit plush toys. I want to get those. And the patches. I want to make a beanie cap with Gir patches on it. Incidentally, my friend had a French class in high school with Jhonen Vasquez. He's from San Jose. We've seen him before at local comic shows and even at the movies a few years ago.

Anyone know if Duckman is going to get the DVD treatment? I only have a few episodes scattered across various tapes, and I can't always catch it on Comedy Central at those early morning hours.

HELL YEAHHHH!!!!! This is awesome news! Along with more volumes of Red Dwarf and South Park and knowing that Futurama, Family Guy, Dilbert and The Critic are out/coming out on DVD, I couldn't be happier. Well, actually, the only thing better would be a complete set of Beavis & Butthead Uncut DVD's, but that will probably never happen.

Anyone get the Toynami Robotech Bookends yet? If so, can you post a review or let us know what you think about them? Are they as good as they look in the pics that have been going around?

questions about Macross DYRL and Zero
sidearmsalpha replied to sidearmsalpha's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hey guys, questions about The Macross. Why was it dubbed "The Macross"? In Robotech, they tried to incorporate the name by calling the island on which it crashed, Macross Island. Does that name have any significance in the Japanese series? Is it a Japanese word that means something? -
Robotech Re-mastered basically Animeigo DVD set?
sidearmsalpha replied to sidearmsalpha's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I thought I had heard or read somewhere that the cut scenes had been dubbed back when they recorded everything, but because it had to be censored, those scenes were cut. It would make sense for this re-mastered set to be the Animeigo re-master with just the English added back in including the stuff that had been recorded for the cut scenes. -
Hello all, after having watched the first 3 episodes of Macross Zero, I'm really fascinated with this prequel to Macross. Is it the prequel to the series or the movie? What's also really cool is how they are going into the alien technology that was found in the ship and all the mystique behind it and how it has affected the villagers on that island (is this Macross Island?). It's too bad in the original series or movie, we never saw what the ship looked like before and after it crashed. I hope we get to see that in Zero. One thing I have never understood or I'm think was never revealed in the series or movie (although they do try to explain it in the Robotech novels with Zor having created the ship and sending it to Earth) is why the alien ship was sent to Earth? And why the Zentraedi were after it? It wouldn't make sense for the Zentraedi to be after it just for its technology since they had fleets and fleets of ships that were incredibly huge and much more powerful. In the series, the only thing that keeps them from destroying it is that they want it back intact. In the movie, Misa explains why the ancient city they were in rose from the ocean, but they still don't explain why The Macross had been sent to Earth or why the Zentraedi were after it. I guess I might have missed something somewhere, but if anyone knows the answers to these questions, I sure would like to know.

With the announcement of this re-mastered Robotech DVD set that's coming out soon, isn't this just basically the Animeigo Macross set but with the english dub? If this is the case, I don't think I'm picking it up after already having bought the Macross set. Sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere else.

Suggestions for good anime/game music
sidearmsalpha replied to sidearmsalpha's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks for that link, mpchi! Wow! It's great to see that there are so many of you out there that are into anime and game music! I only have one friend who has an appreciation for that kind of music. Sometimes, I'll have the CD's playing in my car, and other people, are like, "Huh?! WTF is this?!" They just don't understand. It's all good. I'd rather pop in my Ren & Stimpy CD than some of the pop crap that they listen to! -
Suggestions for good anime/game music

I know I might get stoned here for this, but I actually liked alot of the bgm in Robotech more than I did in Macross: DYRL and Macross the series. I much prefer the Robotech theme song to the Macross theme song. I don't care for Minmay's songs in Robotech at all. The only song that I really like and think is quite good in Macross is the one that Minmei sings during the battle in the movie. I dl'ed that one. Some of Yellow Dancer's songs are good in Robotech, but most of the vocal stuff is pretty bad, IMO. I'll definitely check out the Bubblegum Crisis stuff and what's been suggested so far. Thanks, guys. ..and here I thought I was the only person with that opinion.. lol Try the Last Exile soundtrack, real neat. Man, I love that avatar, GreenGuy42! Looks like you're a fellow IZ fan. As a matter of fact, my friend and I were at Hot Topic yesterday looking at Invader Zim merchandise, namely Gir stuff. He bought the Gir/w eyes closed plush. I saw these cool Gir patches that I want to pick up next time and have them sewed on a beanie cap. Jhonen Vasquez, the IZ creator, is actually from our town. My friend and I would see him at local comic shows back when he was doing Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Squee at Slave Labor. And this is true -- my friend and him had a French class together at the high school down the road from my high school. Sorry to get off topic, but that cartoon rules! They need to compile it all on DVD. Even better, bring it back on the air with new episodes. I downloaded that scene where your avatar is from, and he's dancing to that song "Mr. Wonderful" from Dance Dance Revolution! Just hilarious!!! -

Hey all, I'm looking to expand my anime/game soundtrack library. These are most of the one's I have right now to let you know, more or less, what I'm into. Anime: (Macross Plus OST 1, 2, Sharon Apple: The Cream Puff), Zoids OST, Robotech Perfect Soundtrack, Transformers the Movie (ok, it's not anime, but it's close enough), Bubblegum Crisis Vocal Collection Vol. 1 Game: Radiant Silvergun, Gunvalkyrie, 19XX, Zelda: Ocarina of Time US OST, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Darius Gaiden, G Darius Soundtracks I'd like to get: Revenge of Shinobi, Gunstar Heroes, Shinobi 3 I tend to buy soundtracks that have stuff that is trance/techno, orchestral, electronic, or good rock music. I also really like these movie soundtracks: (Hackers 1, 2, 3), Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Terminator 2, and Swordfish. Any recommendations or suggestions?

Hi guys, thanks for your suggestions. I'll try them out.

Hi, not sure if this is the right forum for this, but maybe, I can get some suggestions here. I'm sure many of you have this problem. Since a lot of Japanese figures are made out of PVC these days, I have quite a few that have bent parts because they were packaged in ways where the parts were fixed in a position that bent them out of place, or I stored the loose figures where they were piled on by other things like other figures, so some of the parts may have now been bent in positions other than the original. Anyway, trying to bend the parts back doesn't seem to work. Even if I hold the parts for awhile or try to put something on them to hold them in the original position, the parts slowly end up bending back to the bent position. I have heard that if you stick PVC in boiling water, it can be bent more easily. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Man, this trading box thing is really annoying me! I can't afford a case of these things. And, if they can't guarantee a complete set in the case, you have to look around for someone who has the one(s) you need or buy another case. Even a complete set will cost you cuz sellers mark them up because they opened the boxes just to find a complete set.

Robotech Masterpiece Bookends
sidearmsalpha replied to VALKYRIE-EXCHANGE.COM's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! NEED SECOND JOB!!!!!!!!! -
Yeah, that's the thing ... if there's an earthquake in Cali, chances are good that your house will be ok. On the other hand, if you live in tornado or hurricane country, and your house gets hit by one of those, the damage is usually pretty extensive.

Hey Kevin, are you planning on carrying these?

Man, they say it was felt as far north as SF. I live in San Jose and slept through it. None of my displayed stuff fell at all, and I got A LOT of stuff on display.

It was great to see BS Galactica back in some way, but I wish that they had kept some of the things that were in the original series, as mentioned in the other thread going on this. For one, the original origin of the Cylons was better. A reworking of John Williams' theme song for the new show would have been awesome. The original theme is one of the coolest sci-fi themes ever. I thought the new Cylons, their ships, and motherbase strayed too far from the original designs, which I still like better. Same goes for the Galactica. They did away with the Egyptian theme of the Colonials. I always like the idea that the Colonials were supposed to be linked to the Egyptians. In the new show, you would never think that they are some distant human race with their own culture. They didn't do much to distinguish them as an ancient human race. They sure didn't look much different than we dress today. The idea to change Starbuck's gender was bad. That's just taboo. You don't do that to a key character. I don't think it worked out like they thought it would. Man, I hope this disappointment doesn't mean that any chance of future Galactica shows are now in limbo.
