  1. Swoosh, you really did a nice job on these, and your pics are truly awesome! It's too bad these aren't sold without the armor, as I would love to have a set on display without the armor. Also, as cool as they look, I've always disliked that the lines on the heatshields aren't very defined. They could be wider and darker. I still don't understand why they can't make color-molded heatshields with a U-shaped groove on the top like the 1/60 heatshields. That would look SO MUCH better IMO. I don't like the glossy plastic they use to make them. Why couldn't they just use the plastic that the Valks are molded in?
  2. I guess the best thing for them to do about the name would be to just say it's an acronym for ROBO-technology where the letters R-O-B-O would stand for something and also hint at the fact that the technology was largely used to develop these planes that could also change into large robots. Robotech does sound generic, but it's what people are already familiar with in the US and other parts of the world unless you really got exposed to Macross. Before the stone-throwing begins, I wanted to ask how the SDF-1 came to be called "The Macross" in the Japanese tv series and DYRL? Was the island also called Macross Island in those? I'm not gonna bash this movie yet, since it's way too early to say what it's going to be like. I thought Transformers was going to be a turd, but I still enjoyed it. Even if this movie bombs, it's not going to ruin my enjoyment of Macross and collecting the toys (Yamato is doing that with each new QC-plagued release). I just hope they can at least do the license some justice. If they can at least have alot of great CG with Veritechs transforming and kicking ass, I won't care if the plot isn't all that great. With a movie like this, I just want to be blown away by the visuals, since there just isn't enough time to develop a great plot from a license that has alot of depth. Unless they try to do something like DYRL, but DYRL condensed the Macross series and threw a new spin on it, but people were largely aware of the backstory from the TV series. This live-action movie is going to face the problem of having to do that on its own for the average movie-goer. Hopefully, whoever they get to write this will be a Macross fan or at least have sense to do some research into the Japanese origins of Robotech: The Macross Saga. I became a Macross fan as a result of being exposed to Robotech, and so did alot of us, so I'm not a Robotech-hater. I'm willing to give this one a benefit of the doubt for now.
  3. Thanks for the responses guys. I always assumed that there was more than one VF-1S which every team leader had in DYRL and that they all had the 001 number, but as you guys pointed out, there's usually only one VF-1S in the fleet at any given time. I guess in that Macross 7 pic, they must have let Max keep his VF-1S and possibly be a team leader of his own Skull squadron, or he got to keep his VF-1S under Hikaru but changed his number back to 013. I forget since I haven't watched DYRL in a awhile and I lent it to a friend, but was Hikaru flying a VF-1S when they first show Max flying a VF-1S?
  4. Hi all, I'm looking to convert a 1/48 VF-1S Roy and VF-1A Max into a VF-1S Max, but I'm not sure what Max's number was when he got a VF-1S.
  5. For those who have it already, how do you attach the armor? Are there holes on the VF-1J that the armor parts fit into? If so, do the holes stand out?
  6. I was looking for this thread, but I guess since it hasn't been posted to lately, it disappeared. So, when is it due out, and will the Ghost that comes with the combo be the same as the new standalone Ghost that is due out soon, too?
  7. Doesn't look like the head laser can be moved. I guess they just want to replicate that one pose they have in one of those pics that is also in the DYRL lineart, IIRC.
  8. I voted no. I still have to get a YF-19 with Fold Booster and the SV-51. I doubt I'm going to be able to afford these, too. The gold trim isn't to my liking, and they cost more than the Valks they're based on normally do. I'll wait to see what other variations they have in store for the YF-19, and hopefully, a VF-1S custom. They've done the VF-1A to death, and now that they've done the Stealth VF-1J, they need to do something for the VF-1S besides this anniversary edition. I wish they'd do a VF-1S Enigma Custom with matching Super/Strike armor.
  9. So, what it sounds like is that no one has tried to separate the shoulder halves on the VF-0A CF? Just loosened the screws? I have one that has a shoulder that had a big chunk break out of it, so it's pretty useless now, so I'm going to remove the screws and see if the halves just come apart, or if they really are glued together.
  10. Are the O rings necessary or will the forearms be very loose without them? Any recommendations on how to separate the elbow collars on the VF-0S?
  11. How'd you fix the bicep section? And do you mean the elbow section? I had a loose VF-0A I bought from that jerk agr33 that came with one arm busted at the elbow, and there were several broken pieces there. I didn't think it would be possible to fix it, so I just ordered replacement arms from HLJ.
  12. That's pretty cool! How'd you get that 1/48 to attach to that Yamato stand in Battroid though? Man, I wish Yamato would make it a standard to pack all 1/48's with those side covers and fixed-pose DYRL hands.

    Graham's Sig

These parts don't really have anything to do with the perfect transformation. They're just add-on parts like the intake covers. I don't see how big of a deal it would be to add a few more parts to the package like they did with the TV-style hands. They wouldn't even need to redesign the package if they didn't want to. There's plenty of unused space in the inner box under the plastic trays. And it's not as if they're making these parts from scratch. They already have the molds, and they are simple one piece parts.

    Graham's Sig

I wanted to ask Graham if he still has those Q&A meetings with the Yamato people where he can relay questions to them about things we are concerned about or would like to see them do? I wanted to start a thread about this, but I guess a post should suffice. Graham, if you're reading this, I wanted to know if you can convince Yamato to start packing the 1/48 VF-1's with the side covers that come with the GBP armor parts and maybe the neck piece that comes with the Super/Strike armor parts. I really like these parts as I think they complete the 1/48's, and I don't like the gaps that they have in Battroid mode. What about the possibility of fixed-pose DYRL hands such as the ones that come with the GBP armor, but slightly smaller? I wouldn't mind paying more to have these parts already included with the Valkyries. I don't want to have to buy GBP armor or Super/Strike parts just for these accessories. I know Alex (nightmareB4macross) was making these last year, but I don't know if he's going to do them anymore. So, what do you guys think about this?
  15. As cool as the 1/48's are, you still can't get them to pull off that nostalgic pose above. I love transforming toys, but I can't resist a figure with very nice articulation such as these. I'm just hoping that Kaiyodo has other VF's (and enemy mecha) planned besides the VF-1. Does anyone frequent any toy forums from Japanese sites where there might be info from someone in the know or even from a Kaiyodo rep as to where they are going with this line? I'm sure Japanese collectors would have asked the Kaiyodo reps at the shows. I'm pretty impressed with the support that Macross is still getting from toy companies considering that it's not as popular as Gundam. I wonder if interest is building up in Japan or these companies are just willing to take a chance and put out stuff that will appeal to the established fanbase?
  16. Did I miss something while reading this thread, or has it not been determined if these are limited or not?
  17. Yes, like Eugimon posted, I received 4 sets that were just arms (no ball joints) from HLJ. Angel
  18. Does anyone have any info on these awesome Musha Gundams?! Are these figures or models and who is putting them out? http://ga.sbcr.jp/mprize/007380/
  19. Sorry to get off topic, but in the pics below from the Wonder Festival show at this site, does anyone have info on these figures? They look like Takara Microman figures, but I'm not sure. http://ga.sbcr.jp/mreport/007399/55.html http://ga.sbcr.jp/mreport/007399/56.html http://ga.sbcr.jp/mreport/007399/61.html http://ga.sbcr.jp/mreport/007399/57.html
  20. For those that have purchased the replacement VF-0S arms and have put them on, was it a hassle to put them on the ball joint considering that the shoulder halves on the arms can't be taken apart completely because of the collar that is glued together at the elbow joint? It totally sucks that Yamato couldn't use the elbow collar with the screw from the VF-0A and just mold it in white. I'm concerned I'm going to crack the shoulders halves trying to slip them over the ball joint.
  21. Sorry to get off topic, but are these Microman figures? If so, what series are they from? http://www.flickr.com/photos/18251255@N00/...57601408814295/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/18251255@N00/...57601408814295/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/18251255@N00/...57601408814295/
  22. Agreed. These look very cool for the asking price. I plan to get whatever they put out. I guess they gotta crank out a few Valks before they can move on to the enemy stuff. I hope Kaiyodo and Toynami don't abandon this license without putting out some enemies at this scale.
  23. Yeah, that's what I paid for the 4 sets I bought plus the SAL shipping from HLJ that also took about a month even though I live on the West Coast. I didn't buy the VF-0's from HLJ, but I guess since I'm a customer, they let me get the replacement arms at a cost. Maybe, that's why they are charging. If they don't keep track of who bought VF-0's from them, they don't want to send free replacement arms to just anybody who claims they need them. But then again, weren't they replacing the defective parts on the Yamato Garland at no charge except for shipping, or was this just for their customers who bought the Garland? Off topic but somewhat related, can just about any part of the VF-0's be ordered through HLJ? I need a couple of the pitot tubes that go under the noses on account of that jerk who goes by agr33 that ripped me off when I bought a loose VF-0A and VF-0S from him. He promised he would send me the missing parts months ago but never did.
  24. More Revoltech Eva's ... YAWN! Man, I hope the Macross line takes off and really expands into the other Macross series.
  25. Today, I received 4 sets of the replacement arms (2 VF-0A sets and 2 VF-0S sets) from HLJ. I had ordered them about a month ago. I noticed that inside the socket of some of the arms is a small black round cap. On a pair of the arms, this cap is loose inside the baggies that the arms are in. I'm assuming this cap is to increase the friction in the socket. Should I use this cap and tighten the screws until the shoulders start to tighten up or just not use the caps? One thing that has me a little concerned is that while inspecting the arms, I noticed that one of the VF-0A arms had a very slight surface stress mark on it (about 2 millimeters long) on one of the shoulder halves. I'll see if I can post a pic soon. This question is for Graham. Were the improvements you mentioned already implemented when they started issueing replacement arms?
