  1. Ok who's driving that little mech, is it the dude with the hero complex?
  2. 2.2 mil sounds right for a M1 slick or a M1A1. For a 2004-6 M1A1AIM, M1A2SEP, and M1A1D Abrams pricetag is around 4-6 million a copy. So in other words you like everybody to buy German or Russian? Cause as it is hardly anybody is buying the LeClerc (France), the Challenger II (U.K.), M1A2SEP (U.S.), and nobody is buying the Ariete (Italy), Merkeva 3/4 (Isreal), and K1A1 (ROK).
  3. For aircraft under U.S. and U.K. designation setup it probably would out of respect for it's namesake.
  4. Oddly enough people think that is perfectly fine for Macross in the "Anybody Thinks That Sk Needs To Redesign The Vf-1?" thread.
  5. Reading those books in a modern context written by George Orwell will still show how bad communism is.
  6. Is the EU willing to let the Japanese have just a license build the Eurofighters? It is U.S. policy to stay closely linked with Japan on thier national security. Correction it is called Type 90 not the M-90. seconded they're 10+ million a copy due to the non-export law the Govt have in place and the low production run (comnpared to the Abrams, Leo IIs, and various Russian tanks.) U.S. Govt is paying around 4-6 million to build new and rebuild heavily damaged Abrams. 1-2 million is the average cost of a surplus Leo 2A4/5 tank and 3-5 million for a new Leo 2A6 tank. Well worth the cost and hassle being independent of another country for military hardware.
  7. There is one exception, the Type 90 Tank which have been co-developed by Krauss-Maffei (Leo II tank.)
  8. The miniguns and then the vuclans were replace to increase firepower and more importantly range as the threat of MANPADS became increasing prevalent. More important task was to task is to support ground forces who're under attack. Gunships were created to attack everything land based the enemy have from infantry to MBTs to bunkers and etc.
  9. AC-130U had the 20mms replace with a single 25mm rotary cannon.
  10. It is still easy enough for the AC-130 gunner to put a couple of 25mm shells through a targeted individual or vehicle. AC-130s would be using the 25mm and the 40mm cannons on targets close to friendlies, the 105mm would not be use unless it is ask for by the ground forces.
  11. AC-130 do have the FCS to precision snipe at any target unfortunate enough to draw it's ire, since Vietnam. Mog like ODS and OIF, the AC crews would've needed precise coordinates on where the friendlies are and the targets are.
  12. Iirc the AC-130s along with artillary and tanks were not authorized to be used in any mission in Somalia.
  13. Could end with a Euro version of the Super Bug if something goes wrong during the conversion.
  14. Check this thread for info on the F-15E+Boeing tries to peddle more F-15E's JSF news TROUBLE FOR JOINT FIGHTER Following White House Meeting, Pentagon Eyes Major Weapons Cuts and Kills Pentagon said bent on killing F-35 fighter model
  15. 600 to 1000 JSF is what they're expecting. The F-22s won't remain combat effective for long with such low numbers as attrition (accidents, cannibalization for parts, combat losses, acts of God and etc.) will catch up to them a lot sooner than a larger air fleet. Skull Leader what really bites is the Super Bugs is more expensive then the F-15Es.
  16. Latest Boeing F-15E+ proposal to the USAF is to address those issues. Someone didn't send that memo to the USN.
  17. Iirc the F-15SG is an improved F-15K.David has Lockheed Martin figure out how to update the F-22 electronics?
  18. Zentrandude, right now there barely enough bandwidth for the current UAVs as it is.
  19. More like 200-275 with parts, equipment, and the rest of the package which come with the deal. Doesn't the F-22 have the little problem to overcome of needing a replacement for the discontiuned chipset? Have to wait until the fallout from the Boeing srewup settles before a plane and company is chosen. More carriers are on order, but have the problem of iirc only one shipyard capable of them.If you got time and want to see where the money is going here the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) Somewhat back to topic, nobody here going to like it. What to do with America's largest ever helicopter?, Running out of space at the museum.
  20. I got 401.7 billion fromhttp://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2005/defense.html and http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/2004/n...40202-0301.html and it appear I'm off by about 40-50 billion of Reagan's Cold War budget. Check http://www.defensetech.org/ to see what the Military is and isn't spending it money on.
  21. Bush brought the miltary budget back up to Reagan's Cold War level which is a stark contrast to gutting the military's budget.
  22. Possibly a huge mistake especially if one of the choice decides a "peace dividend' is better than mantaining status quo or increasing the fleet.
  23. Nothing just Pakistan is getting some older iirc A or b models. Current new F-16 models with a decent pilot should give a SU30MKI plenty of grieve. Correct
  24. Severely underestimating what a western pilot can do with a non-obsolete F-16. And F-16 pilot may not always get a choice in which battles they could avoid if the other side presses the issue.Though better matchup would be between the F-16s and the Mirage2000-5 which India brought a tone of.
  25. Without Owen Hart, the Slammies will be a pale shadow of itself.
