Banpresto products in generally are subpar releases deemed unfit for the Bandai trademark. They are cheaply made stuff used to stuff crane prize machines.

The newer OVA did not "reinterpret" the TV series. They were continuations of the TV series, included on the home video release of the TV series as bonus episodes. Some of them continued the Griffon story line while others were mostly stand-alone episodes.

The Flipper is an upgraded Zaku Recon, so they mount cameras and sensors everywhere they could. Now take your mind outta the gutter.
