  1. How dare you! I challenge you to a duel! We will duel baboon style, raise our posteriors and fling feces at each other at twenty paces. And furthermore, it is every Americans right to make uninformed generalizations. Besides, it is so much easier to sit at home, watch dumb reality television, then blame all the politicians when things are going bad. Let's face it. Being Monday morning or armchair quarterbacks is where it is at. Kind of reminds me of when I made a custom and got criticized all over the place on how I should have done this, or done that, and people called it boring or garbage etc... On a more serious note, I actually have more time to investigate these things because I am currently unemployed. I do feel you're frustrations, though. I love how so many people complain that 90% of Americans are ignorant, then I start asking them questions and find out they know nothing about what they are talking about. They have no facts, just stuff they got off of television. It's the same thing with anything. People bitch about how bad movies are but continually go watch them. People criticize toys and continually buy them. I got news for everyone. If you keep supporting something without taking a stand, they will not change. It's all about the money honey.
  2. Have to add Gilmore Girls to the list. I just love watching a bunch of pretentious people make witty remarks at each other while being involved in pointless storylines. The faster they talk, the more witty they sound. How can you not like that? After getting home from a hard days work, being annoyed to no limit is the perfect way to spend the evening. Unfortunately, Gilmore Girls isn't on every night so I have to watch shows like the Benefactor. Seeing sixteen numbnuts try to appease a computer geek is close to the pinnacle of television accomplishment. Between the dumb blonde and the drugged out rock and roll star, you have a great variety of contestants who will most likely be homeless once they are kicked off the show. Lost is kind of interesting. What it needs though is ten more characters like that prissy girl who gets all tripped out because she insists she doesn't understand French (Must have watched the last episode to understand). When people ask me to try and translate Chinese, I also throw a big fit and nearly pee in my pants. Translating is such scary work. Yep, have ten girls like her walking around the island, and you have something. They can yell at each other for an hour and be even more annoying than the Gilmore Girls. Then I'll be torn on which show is better. I think TV execs got together a few years back to take TV programming in the direction of pissing me off. Got to love it.
  3. Windcharger looks good from the waist up. I have a big problem with the skinny chicken legs. Couldn't they have beefed them up somehow?
  4. Damn, what is this world coming to. My car just got broken into today. Luckily, I don't keep anything in there except my MP3 player and my car jack. I don't have an ipod, only one of those cheapy players that you can buy now for twenty bucks so it is not a big loss. Unfortunately, last month my apartment got broken into and they took my $800 computer and $400 monitor ontop of my DVDs, PS2, digital camera, etc... Of course, we can't blame the criminals. It is society's fault they are like that. It will also be my fault if I crack their heads open with a hammer if I ever find out who did this.
  5. Oh Crap! Prowl looks awesome! It almost makes me want to do a custom if I had the time and energy. I bought the Alternator Smokescreen which was fine for me since I did not see the need for diecast. However, I must say from the pictures I have seen I might have to go with a binaltech Meister. The white plastic that they use looks way too cheap. I think it has to do with the fact that there is nothing painted on the car allowing the ugliness of the plastic to show through.
  6. You know, sometimes I get tired of listening to the review of, "Great movie! But no story." So far, I have never seen a movie with a weak story that I liked. To say something is great means that the whole thing is great. How can you have a great movie if the plot line stinks. You can get away with descent stories, but crappy stories? If Macross didn't have a good story, I guarantee you my fondness for it would have faded after sixth grade. And BTW, I don't think Angelina Jolie is that hot and most of my friends agree. Give me Natalie Portman anyday. Unfortunately, she's been staring in some stinkers lately ie "Star Wars Episode II". What's Jessica Alba doing these days?
  7. Dang, there are some pretty hard critics on this board. Personally, I think it is great what this guy did. I am particularly impressed with the head he made. The only thing I can see wrong is that the material he used gives Soundwave a bit of a melted look. Other than that, Kudos to the custom maker.
  8. This is something I don't get. When Toynami released the VF-1 series, many retailers carried the product and seemingly got burned. The Rick Hunter might have sold well, but everything else sold for half or below half of MSRP. So now the new Alpha is out, and I remember checking with Toynami a while back who said the wholesale price of the Alpha was around $50.00. Considering that the Ebay price has now dropped to $67.00, and people are still having a tough time moving these things, why do retailers continue to stock Toynami toys? The price for Scott's Alpha may stabilize around the $60.00 mark, but I really don't see Rook or Lancer Alphas going for more than $50.00. Take into account all the expenses the retailers have to put in to sell these things, and suddenly they are only breaking even or operating at a very slight profit (or potentially loss). People talk about consumers making a stand against Toynami, but I wonder when the retailers will finally take a stand too. The impression I get is that Toynami is the only one really generating a profit here. Maybe one of the retailers of Toynami toys can explain this to me.
  9. Really don't see the need for this thing. I played with Voltron back when I was a kid and thought the Matchbox version was just fine. It was at least good enough not to warrant another mold being released by Toynami which will probably be ladden with problems. Isn't this thing going to cost over a hundred dollars too? Yeesh.
  10. Must say, I didn't think the first DC Berserk game was that good, but I actually liked the story a lot. I was told the story in the DC version was more of a side plot, though. This one looks to follow the main story which after watching a couple of Berserk episodes I don't think I will find it too interesting. Just more killing, brooding, and trying to look cool.
  11. I don't think any adults jump on the band wagon of Gundam or Transformers because it's the cool thing to do. Last I checked, most of my family and friends thought I was nuts collecting toys period.
  12. I have been waiting a very long time for these to come out. Wish I had more money to buy some of them. Knowing Yamato's record the price will be.... ONE MILLION DOLLARS! Or fifty dollars... somewhere in between there.
  13. WHOA! I have been waiting for somebody to make a Bubblegum Crisis figure since I first saw the thing fourteen years ago! Is that thing a figure with actual moveable parts or are those just statues with different poses? If it is a figure, I'm sold. I remember a member here was trying to make one out of a SOC figure, but I never knew if he finished it or not. Too much good stuff... except that VF-0, that thing looks hiddeous.
  14. You know, I used to own a 1/48, but I didn't think it looked all that good. For some reason, the plastic always struck me as a little on the dull and plain side. I didn't like the sculpt of the 1/60 either. The nose was just way too pointy for my tastes. My collection now is exculsively 1/55 Bandai's. I love the heavy, sturdy plastic and the durability of thing is unmatched. I also think it looks really good in robot mode except for the head. I agree that those could have used a major retooling. If only yamato could make heads for the Bandai toys.
  15. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I was trying to find critic reviews on this movie on yahoo however there was no letter grade given. Also, there were only three reviews written which I thought was kind of strange. Apparently, AVP did not have a wide spread critics screening and it seems like the studios were trying to avoid the guaranteed thrashing this movie would have gotten if critics did see it. Usually that means that the studio has very little confidence in the quality of the film and is hoping that the hype will bring enough people to watch the opening weekend. Considering all the bombs that were released this summer, I am surprised the studios didn't pull this stunt more often. They should have kept critics from seeing movies like Around the World in Eighty Days. It might have opened a tiny bit better.
  16. Yeesh, what's with all the rude remarks? He just wanted to show some pictures of the jet he modified. I've seen alot worse stuff posted in this forum that got encouragement. Personally, I would really like to see an SDF-1 made out of Legos or the Mega Blocks series (I have no preference). Keep up the work
  17. Congratulations! Good show old boy!
  18. Strange that this guy is selling them for $50.00 when he can probably get $100 + on ebay even for bootlegs of that quality. Maybe he is scared of getting caught or something. Who is going to anime expo BTW? If that dealer is confirmed there, I just might have to pay the anaheim convention center a visit. Better yet, one person can go in and buy the toys so we don't all have to pay admission .
  19. Well, I'm a casual gamer so I probably won't be modifying anything to play tons of games. I know the new systems are coming out next year, but I probably won't buy them due to costs. I heard the new PS3 is over $400! For that money, I might as well get a PC. Sometimes I wish I didn't have a Macintosh, I don't care what these Apple loyalist say. There is just not enough software support in certain areas. From what I gather, the game people mainly buy the Xbox for seems to be Halo. I played it once, and it just wasn't fun in single player mode although I can see how it would be different in an online environment. I don't plan to sign up for any online services though so Halo wouldn't be on my list. Ninja Gaiden looks really cool, but I don't think that would be a deal maker. I guess I'll be grabbing myself a PS2 then. It's kind of annoying buying a system for the same price as a more powerful one, but it's all about the games. Thanks for everyone's help.
  20. Well, it seems like people who prefer the Xbox like it because it is more powerful in terms of graphics and everything. The people who prefer the PS2 seem to really like the game selection. I am personally one who concentrates on the games available for each system. However, most of the games I like are available for both systems. Only a couple seem to be system selective, but from what I am hearing, the couple that are system selective aren't very good. I definitely will not get a Gamecube because I didn't like any of the games specific to that system. I went to Gamespot and checked out a bunch of games. In general, the reviews were pretty similar. The only time they differed was when it came to games like Max Payne and Hitman 2 where they said the PS2 looked sub par while the Xbox looked descent. However, I have been mislead before where people will tell me I have to see something on a certain format because it is utterly better, and I end up being unimpressed. So I guess what I am wondering now is: For people who have seen the same games on both systems, do they really differ that much?
  21. Well, I plan to get one with in the next week which is why I came here. I wanted to draw upon the experiences of other MWer's. Decisions, decisions...
  22. JSRF?!??!?! ROFL!!!!!!!! I have it, and I haven't even dared playing it yet! LOL! I'm like you David, I have like 50 PS2 games and only a handful of Xbox games, with no intention of that ever really changing. PS2 just has more interesting games IMO. Vostok 7 This maybe an ignorant comment, but what does FPS, JSRF, and ROFL stand for?
  23. I recently got two hundred dollars in Bestbuy gift certificates which is enough to buy one system. In terms of power, I know the Xbox is suppose to be superior, but the PS2 has more games. In the end, all I care about are the games I like, most of which run on both systems. However, I then discovered there were a couple that only one system had and the other didn't. For example: XBOX Ninja Gaiden, Knights of the Old Republic PS2 Resident Evil Outbreak. Final Fantasy XI EDIT: It sounds like most people like the Xbox for games like Halo and Panzer Dragoon. I'm not too into those. However, I want to get Hitman 2, Max Payne, and Mafia which are games that both systems support, but I heard the Xbox supports better. I also like sports games such as NHL Hitz, Espn football, and such. I guess my priorities come down to two types: Sports games (NHL Hitz, ESPN Football, NBA Street) Present day Cinematic Adventure games (ie GTA Vice city, Max Payne, Mafia, Silent Hill...) Both systems support most of these, but it's certain titles like Knights of the Old Republic and Resident Evil Outbreak that leave me undecided. Of course, now people are telling me that those games are actually not as good as they have been hyped up to be. So I guess my new question is: WHICH GAMES WOULD YOU GUYS SAY ARE THE DEFINING GAMES OF EACH SYSTEM THAT CAN ONLY BE PLAYED ON THAT PARTICULAR SYSTEM? THANKS.
  24. I think we can all agree that the directors usually have a large part in determining if a movie will be good or sub par. I was really looking forward to watching AVP. I probably still will just out of curiousity. However, Paul Anderson is the same man who brought us films such as Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, and so forth. He tends to turn movies into silly action flicks as opposed to tackling them from a more serious angle. I thought RE could have been a good picture if he made it more along the lines of a 28 days later, but instead we got a woman dropkicking zombie dogs. Let's see. The first two alien films were directed by Ridely Scott and James Cameron. I don't think anyone will mention Paul Anderson in the same sentence unless they add "He's no..."
  25. I actually own both. However, I have kept the Takara version in the box. If I knew there was a difference, I would have bought more Takaras in Hong Kong! I have to say, overall the toy is really good for the price tag. The poseability is a little better than the Unicron Armada toy and the robot mode looks dead on to the cartoon. The legs are a bit big in truck mode and there are no side windows, but I can live with that. My biggest complaint would be the flimsiness of the hands, fingers, and ankles. The wrist appear to be very loose, but that's okay since he only needs to hold a gun. The ankles are the bigger problem. Because they are so loose, Prime has a tendency to tip over when trying to hold poses. The ankle supports just give way. Can anyone else who owns a Takara confirm if the Takara version has tighter joints? Personally, I can live with myself spending $68.00 on a toy of this quality. A hundred dollars would be too much. That's one of the reasons I sold my Super VF-1J 1/48. It looked nice, but not over a hundred dollars nice. As fans of both Macross and Transformers, I think you get more for your money with Prime as opposed to a 1/48. He has a lot of diecast metal (almost too much), he is big, and very poseable. Of course, most people here who love Macross over TFs would disagree, but most Macross fans would probably take a 1/60 over a Prime. BTW: where did that thread go for people who wanted to buy the longer smokestacks?
