Yes, unless you're painting Yellow over yellow plastic, Red on top of red, Blue over blue, and so on... the thing is that for a transforming model, being able to assemble the thing without painting and have the end product be collored as closely to the box art as possible has distinct advantages. -

It would just be nice to have the major color breaks depicted in the animation as individual parts; stripes could be handled via vinyl stickers or decals (or both as in the 1/72 Frontier line). That way, one could have a good representation of a particular unit without the need for any painting that would be prone to scratch, flake or rub off during transformation; and if painting is desired by the modeler, having separate parts keyed to the color breaks would make painting much easier, it would be a win-win from the standpoint of the builder... the downside would be the added cost of developments, material sourcing, extra molds, increased manufacturing time and/or injection production lines used, etc., which would lead to a higher price point. -

Isn't there a model or toy expo being held in Japan within the next few weeks? Still holding out hope, but if there are no further news released by then, or a total absence of the YF-30 at Bandai's booth, then I will strongly suspect that your suspicion is right on the money...

What are the best Yamato 1/60 custom paint designs of all time?

Absolutely! The current 1/60 kits are great for certain customs where white is the predominant color, but if Arcadia were to pump out S,J,A, and D kit versions in a neutral/aircraft gray I'd buy at least one of each. -
Wouldn't that make the VF-11 your 3rd favorite? I may get this kit if for no other reason than to measure the radar dish and attachment pylons to model a 1/60 version I can SLA for my Yamato 11B and C.

Original release categorizes it as a V1 where the VF-27 is concerned; when compared to the V1 VF-25 an argument could be made that the design is kind of a 1.5, but since they are different mecha, despite their similarities, I can't consider the previous releases of the Lucifer anything other than a V1... which makes this revised release a 1.5. After all the YF-29 is also similar to the 25 in a great many respects, but it was never called a 1.5 or 2.0 derivative of the original V1 Messiah; it's its own Valk and therefore a V1 of that design. Bacause the upcoming bundle pack VF-27 is a marriage of old and new parts, it qualifies as a 1.5 in my book. I think of it in terms of Yamato's 1/60 VF-1s, the first few were V1.0, then they tweaked that design by adding pilot busts, mouting holes, and inner ducting of the intake/upper leg GERWALK swivel -- this made the update a 1.5 version, then after the 1/48s they released the V2.0 VF-1s which were totally new, and later revised that to correct some design flaws which gave us what can be regarded as a V2.5.

To be considered true renewal would entail a completely new toy: new design, new engineering, new molds, not just redesigned bits and redressing and reusing of the old parts. But, realistically, that's just quibling; this refreshed re-release of the VF-27 is, as I stated, a near-renewal edition given all the fixes/improvements, and since this V1.5 is likely to be the definitive DX version of the Lucifer, any distinction between this and a pie-in-the-sky totally new V2.0 is merely academic. Question: Were the landing gears on the V1 VF-27 stumpy like on the V1 25s, or were they longer like with the 29 onwards? And what are the chances that, if they were short, they have been revised for the upcoming 27 release?

I wish they'd offer a non-fast pack version for the usual 14000 Yen price point -- I can't see myself mounting the add-ons very ofter, if at all. The more I look at the images the more I see the improvements; as mentioned above, it's not just the crotch/hip area but the hands, the deeper plastic hue, the added tampo markings, the darker metalic feet, the way the head stands proud of the shoulders... this "reissue" of the best of the old series of Frontier Valks is now a near-renewal edition, almost on par with the Durandals, that should look at home next to the V2 25s, 29s and 171s... instead of slouching in Battroid, it now stands erect and better matches the elegance of the lineart. I think I'm sold since, after this investment in redoing the Lucifer, I doubt Bandai will revisit the design for a true renewal version.

Whattyaknow... looks like they did fix the hip. Now I'm more than mildly interested. I wonder how it compares to the renewal on a side by side comparison with the redesigned bits. Edit: Pricey beast, though...

To be honest, I'm not anticipating much from this movie, other than impressive SFX of Giant Robot on Kaiju action. I expect an insipid story with a tissue-paper thin plot, two dimensional characters, bad (over)acting, and the prerequisite romantic schmaltz thrown in, with silly mech control interface choreography and nausea inducing camera work on some of the action sequences for good measure. And that line "Go Big or Go Extinct" reminds me of "Size Matters" from the excruciatingly bad Mathew Broderick Godzilla movie... the history of this genre is not very encouraging. But this is from GDT, so maybe I'll be pleasently surprised. Aesthetic sendibilities regarding the mechanical designs aside, it sure looks badass. -

That last trailer hit so many geek spots on so many levels, it's like a nerdvana... I have no idea if this will even remotely resemble a good movie, but it is guaranteed to be one hell of a ride, a total assault on all senses. -

Easy, change the name from English to Latin (Pleni Frontis... it even rings like a proper name) and you retain the words, the intended meaning, add a centain class and gravitas, eliminate the double entendre, and make it actually sound cool as opposed to ridiculous.

Hasn't been anounced yet. Rest assured that it's a sure thing that it will be reissued within the next few months, and that when the official anouncement is made in the Tamashi website, someone here will post the news. If my preorder for the RVF-25 with Hobbyfan works out as I hope, then Ozma's 25 is the last Messiah I'll need to complete my Frontier collection, unless Bandai decides to pump out a 25A CF version...

Paypal will rob you of a good amount of savings with their lousy exchange rate; however, even with that being taken into account, I still saved about 8-9 bucks compared to the original USD quote when I first placed my preorder, so I'm not going to complain.

Sure, in a Sub, editor's and liner notes work just fine... I even mentioned as much on a previous post; however, I was refering to Dubs where notes popping up or explanatory voice-overs for dialogue just get cumbersome (not to be confused with dubbed anime containing subs for signs, lyrics, etc.; those are extremely helpfull and welcome). The Gundam franchise has more than its share of odd names ranging from the mildly strange to the downright inane, but Full Frontal is on a whole new level of imbecilic... it's the kind of handle you'd expect in a comedic Hentai. It's such "oddities", in no small measure, that cause most people to write off anime in general, with varying degrees of disdain.
