Good grief... I'm surprised no one has made this little pun yet, so I felt compelled...

Nimitz class carriers and super tankers are certainly bigger than even the mighty Yamato, and super carriers have an asymmetrical beauty all their own and are deadlier than any dreadnought could ever hope to be; carriers' effectiveness were abundantly proved way back in WWII. So, as graceful and intimidating as battleships such as the Yamato, Missouri, and Bismark were, they're a product of a bygone age and an outdated naval strength doctrine that makes them obsolete in today's world... a pity, but we'll likely never see their like again.

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
mechaninac replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ultimately, regardless of how much it stinks, Disney, being the property owner, has every right to dictate terms to licensees, as they see fit. Ultimately too, it is everyone's right to vote with their money by deciding if the Revell alternatives are good enough and/or provide an adequate value for the price. I know I will not purchase anything Star Wars made by Revell (FM molds excluded, depending on MSRP) for which there is a Bandai version -- which we all know will be infinitely superior -- even if I have to pay inflated eBay prices or search other means, if it's truly something I must have; otherwise, I can live without... and save in the process. The irksome thing, though, is that this whole kerfuffle could be avoided if Revell were willing, and allowed by Disney, to work out a distribution arrangement with Bandai, if they'd be open to such a deal, to sell Bandai produced kits, re-branded in the same Revell category as the FM molds offerings (a small blurb on the box and instructions would be all that would be necessary, besides what already appears on the sprues, to credit Bandai) for the non-Japanese markets. Such a contract would be a win, win, win, win solution: Disney wins by not coming across as complete tools, Revell wins by offering a wide array of options to suit every price point and expectation, Bandai wins by keeping their Japanese distribution rights and expanding production to meet worldwide demand, and, most important of all, the hobbyist and fans win by being allowed to purchase what they want, regardless of what they want, without having to jump through artificially imposed hoops. -
THIS!... IS!... SPARTA!!! Amiami and others... Edit: I'd rather have a historically accurate Greek Hoplite instead of a fantasy version of a Spartan, but...

Too true. Bandai currently occupies the very pinnacle of mass produced plastic kits for the Star Wars property, a spot previously held by Fine Molds; and in many many ways, least of wish is the sheer selection -- and growing, Bandai has even outdone that high watermark. That Disney is deliberately denying worldwide fans and hobbyists easy access to these wonderful renditions of classic and future figure and vehicle kits, thereby saddling everyone outside Japan and East Asia with woefully inferior crap (maybe Revell will surprise us if they indeed issue kits from Fine Molds' tooling, but what they've shown so far is laughably bad), or forcing gray-market deals to acquire them henceforth, is inexcusable from a fan standpoint, and reeks of the top-down, cronyism-laden, heavy-handed, corporate control that the House of Mouse is infamous for.

AE requires payment upfront, no exceptions; however, they do not charge shipping until the items is in stock and ready to send out, at which time they send out an additional invoice. I don't know AE's policy regarding delinquency, but it must be spelled out in their terms of service agreement . CD-J will charge you upfront for the pre-ordered item and it's estimated shipping only if you choose PayPal as your payment method; if they underestimate, they will not request additional payment to cover the difference... at least that's my experience, unlike N-Y, or so I've read on these forums. HLJ will only request payment once the item you ordered is in stock, and their email clearly indicates your payment window (usually 3 business days); but I don't think they'll ban you unless you fail to pay repeatedly... they'll just cancel your order.

You could always get resin pilots in 1/72, male and female versions, from Studio Starforge I can't vouch for their quality since I've never ordered from them, but it's an option to the Weapons Set if all you want are the pilots; also, they are TV pilots, unlike the Weapons Set, and you get 4 seated and 2 standing figures. They're reviewed here.

If SHFs came out looking that bad, just look at those linebacker shoulders... NO, but Bandai generally does a far better job at their worst (99.999% of the time) than Toynami does at their best.

So, I broke down and purchased a Shin 0A off N-Y this morning -- in order to use the Discount Power Coupon I had ... yeah, that's why I pulled the trigger on something I'd been prevaricating on (leaning towards skipping altogether) since it's announcement; sure, that was it... ... I'm such a weak fool... Edit: I blame all of you!!!

You don't expect Arcadia to re-design/fix a breakage-prone flawed design on something they suggest should retail around 34000 Yen, do you?... Because that would be crazy.

The Star Destroyer's design look okay -- hard to tell many details from the small low-res image, but that is one dumb-ass name they've given it... sounds like something from TRON instead of SW.

DX Chogokin VF-27ß Lucifer Mass Production and Grace Custom
mechaninac replied to IXTL's topic in Toys
Like barurutor wrote, payment requests were sent out about 2 weeks ago; the deadline to avoid delinquency and cancellation is tomorrow (8/24/15). Sildani, if you pre-ordered from N-Y, and for whatever reason missed the email, just log on to your account and go to "ORDER HISTORY" to finalize payment... unless you do want to let time run out to let them cancel. I'm pretty confident that the Grace VF-27ß will be available upon release, and for some time thereafter--perhaps at a slight markup at first, going higher as stocks diminish.- 616 replies

Quite nice, but the 'pulling off the shirt' arms positions make for a very awkward pose when displayed without the castoff-able pieces.

@#$*!!! After a substantial wait to get my YF-29B (almost 4 weeks), I missed the delivery. I swear, more often than not, registered SAL is more nerve-wrecking than regular SAL... the tracking status never updated past the per-shipment phase -- had me worried --until, all of a sudden, it listed as out-for-delivery, and I wasn't around to receive it; had it been non-registered, I wouldn't have been able to fret over the lack of updates and the package would've been left at my door... now I have to make a trip to the post office or reschedule the delivery...

It's been quite a while since the last VF-25 was released/reissued, and still not a peep on a VF-25G re-release...

I don't think the word epic is anywhere near "epic" enough to describe this project. This is the sort of thing that, upon witnessing, either inspires one to improve one's abilities beyond his/her competence/comfort level, or prompts a hobbyist to swear off modeling/scratch building altogether, and gather all hobby tools into a trash bin for ignominious disposal...

A gloss finish is inherently more reflective than a matte one, even when dealing with the much longer wavelengths of the radio spectrum of EM energy. It's not much, but every little bit counts towards a planes' low observability quotient.
