One thing is certain, Tigh's drinking problem does not stem from some deep seated insecurity, or character flaw, or discomfort with his rank, or inability to seat in the "big" chair, or confrontations with subordinates, or the burden of command, or humanity's desperate situation, etc...no my friends, it results from being married to that woman...I know that if I were married to that harpy/shrew/floozy I'd drink myself into a stupor too.

I'd love to see Yamato produce a 1/48 VF-1D; however, I believe that to be very unlikely. As mentioned before, that model entails far more than a simple recolor, and there is a limited number of recognizable VF-1D versions to make production worthwhile: trainer VF-1D, virgin road VF-1D; other than those I suppose that a low viz and a brownie could also be made as limited editions, but that's about it. But it's fun to dream...

My guess is that it will have minimal diecast/metal content, just like the 1/48 VF-1s. The swing bar and landing gears will probably be metal, but not much else, other than the screws of course. To me that's actually a good thing as it will make the toy lighter, more detailed, with higher "gimmick" content, and less prone to floppy joints and paint chipping...just like the 1/48s. I'd love to see the VF-0 get the 1/48 treatment, but at 33 cm it will be plenty big and be a welcome addition to the 1/60 line. Now, if Yamato would only do 1/60 destroids...

Is it just me, or was Crashdown's execution at the hands of Baltar extremely satisfying? Face it, Crashdown was a dangerously incompetent leader...a good leader weighs all advice and considers all available information, including new intel, before committing subordinates for what amounts to a suicide mission, but he was completely unwilling to deviate from his initial course of action and ready to shoot a subordinate to enforce his will...the guy was asking for it.

I totally agree about the HUMVEE. They could of at least used something a little more generic and not so "LOOK AT ME I'M A HUMVEE!!" Chris 313990[/snapback] I found myself saying "how quaint, she drives a HUMVEE" when I saw that episode. The episode itself wasn't as good as the season opener, but it had great moments; however, Starbuck's ride just struck me as an unimaginative cop out...even the original series had its own land vehicles (BSG 1980's colonial motorcycles excluded).

Is anybody getting the Aoshima Dropship
mechaninac replied to Montarvillois's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
They look awesome. Is there any word if these items will be available States side? Domestic release would be preferred...shipping from Japan is a killer! -
I don't know which I'd prefer, a more modern design than the Galactica or the original design as a sort of fan service. Either one of those ideas regarding the design of the Pegasus would be awesome, something different...anything but a Galactica "class" Battlestar clone or, even worse, a stupid "kit bash" like so many Star Trek ships.

I would no worry about that. The recasters on these forums will satisfy the need for copies of these hands soon enough after the toy is available.

The 2005 San Diego Comic Con Thread

Wow! Love the Aliens Pulse Rifle. I'm afraid to ask, but how much? -
What a great season opener that was. SG1 was only slightly better than ordinary, even with the addition of Ben Browder that show is beginning to get a little long in the tooth. Atlantis was pretty good, nothing spectacular, but very entertaining; although derivative, it works rather well and is mostly solid. Now BSG just blew me away, from the wrapping up and further confounding of the Helo/Boomer/Starbuck situation on Caprica, the drama surrounding Adama's injuries, Tigh's inner conflicts, the whole "fracked" jump and following resolution (with a few minor quibbles that have already been alluded to), the flashback scenes, to the special effects, specially how the Base Star just disgorges the Raiders from its arms...it looked like a hornet's nest just let loose. There was so much going on that it could have bordered on sensory overload to keep track of it all, but the episode was so well written, acted, shot, and edited that everything just flows together and, instead of leaving you overwhelmed, it just made you hunger for more and say to yourself: "it's over already???" At the risk of going into complete fanboy hyperbole, this IS the best show in this genre on TV today, and perhaps the best ever...only B5 even got close. Hooray to Ron Moore and the Sci-Fi channel for breaking away from the tired old Star Trek template and giving us fans something truly special.

WOW! Thanks for that link. As good as the solid grey prototype looked, the painted version gives you a much better idea of how this will look like in production...stunning. @Ocean: It looks like it will have the upper thigh guns by the looks of it in the color pictures; I can only assume that the center gun will be there also. As for landing gears...I haven't the foggiest.

Episode 10-ish...hmmmm...could it be the...SPOILER ALERT! --//-- The Pegasus episode(s). Admiral Kane's Battlestar will make an appearance this season. One thing that bugs me a bit is that their keeping with their penchant for substituting memorable male characters with female ones. Kane will be a woman in this series, played by the same actress that played ensign Ro in TNG. Having said that, since Starbuck's character worked rather well as female, I have an optimistic view on Kane as the actress they chose (can't remember her name and am to lazy to look it up) is rather good, like the rest of the cast...no wooden performances thus far. --//-- I can't wait!

That's absolutely insane...I'm in awe. Bravo! So...when is this little beauty going to be made available?

The second season premiere is this Friday at 10pm, as well as the rest of Sci-Fi channel's sci-fi block...can't wait.

Very nice work, specially on this teaser poster. For anyone who is not well versed in Spanish I believe that the text roughly translates to: "Once we knew that extraterrestrial life existed, Humanity had to awaken." I like this translation a bit better...: "When extraterrestrial life became known, the human race had to expand its awareness." Cool stuff, keep it up. Um amigo do Brasil

War Of The Worlds Trailer is OUT! Summer 2005!
mechaninac replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That looks hilariously cheese-tastic, like a Sci-Fi channel TV movie with a B5 Shadow-esque war machine to top it off. Edit: had the wrong B5 reference. -
I guess the catch all phase "Toynami strikes again" pretty much sums up the end result of the whole Alpha MPC line. I shudder to think just how craptacular an MPC cyclone would be: bad paint application, uneven assembly that causes the figure to have crooked extremities, bad fit, mediocre material choices, weak joints, the tendency to explode at the merest touch, and any other QC issues that I haven't mentioned...and all for just $79.99 MSRP...joy! I'd still like to get my hands on at least one Beta/Tread to go with the Alphas...what can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment.
-
I got mine towards the end of their release for $120 delivered to the East Coast, USA from HK...those were the days. I wish I had gotten a couple more...I'd be able to sell them off today at more than double what I paid.

I guess under whelmed is the best way to describe my initial reaction to the shadow Alpha's execution. It's not that it looks that bad, but that it looks so unimpressive. I'll eventually pick one of these up for completion's sake, but not at anything nearing full price ; and I'm sure that it will look a lot better all dolled up with stickers, just like all of it's tarmac mates. Given that, just like macross, mospeada's mechas have very little in the way of logos and other signage illustrated in the animations themselves, and that such detail only really appears in secondary sources or in the model renditions, I don't see a fully stickered Alpha, even the shadow, as being outside of canon. Besides, as has been mentioned before, aesthetics is one of the paramount requisites in this subject matter.

David Croket Tac Nuke Grenade. That would be my choice.
-
Err...they were never broken, and GL already "fixed" them; or have you forgotten, or blocked out, the Special Editions? However, I agree, the originals should never be redone, with new actors or otherwise...that would just be wrong.

Pictures please! Pictures! What he said!

Finally, honesty in product labeling.

I have to agree with Hurin's point of view on Vader. To put it bluntly, in the simplest of terms: Evil is as evil does.
