1. There was a series that lasted one or two seasons on MTV that was spun off a series of shorts from Liquid Television...not so pretty eye candy and definitely for stoners. Aeon Flux was always a cult favorite in both incarnations, but it never had widespread popularity; why a movie based on this show/character has been made, or why Charlize Theron took the role (other than a substantial payola), beats the hell out of me...chalk it up to another example of Hollyweird's total lack of originality, and their penchant to underestimate audiences, and then wonder why ticket sales are hovering near an all time low. At any rate, based on the trailers I've seen, it looks like it will be total garbage and earn a place in movie history with other piles of steaming poo like Catwoman and Electra. As for Aquaman, he's the quintessential background character and in no way interesting enough to carry a series, no matter how bad. For all intents and purposes they could try using Merman...just about the same level of popularity.
2. Your childhood shall be despoiled yet...wasn't there word of a Predator remake?
3. Not mention the fact that they will take it as an opportunity to bombard the audience with environmental wacko rhetoric and politics until your head explodes...remember Captain Planet?
4. My recommendation would be to stick with the latter releases (VF-1S FP and latter)since they are fast pack and/or GBP capable. The 1/60s are also the only way to get ready-made VF-1D, VE-1, and VT-1 that look good to excellent in all three modes and won't cost you an arm and a leg to acquire. EBay should be fine, just make sure that you are bidding on true Yamato 1/60 and check the seller's feedback and you should not get fooled.
5. Can someone say overpriced chunk of plastic and diecast with horrendous QC? Those images have been posted before; I don't think there has been anything new on the Beta/Tread in some time.
6. And with those two, I shall eat your soul. 343642 CROM smiles upon thee and his forge warms your spirit.
7. The fan of a show bastardized from the original Macross, which HG claims as their own, goes ahead and bastardizes the work of a DYRL? fan to claim it as his own...am I the only one that sees the ironic parallel here?
8. Like I said, it's not their work, but the animation studio's. However, they are in control of the content, editing and quality of the product(s) that bear their name; so it's really their own dumb fault if, in the end, they fail to live up even to the reduced expectations they've so rightfully earned (just about everything they've put out from their flagship license has been over promised and under delivered). Mike's work shows that he has a flair for composition, atmosphere, and flow that is in very short supply in the industry. Usually you have people who excel at one or two aspects of the process; he seems to be talented in most aspects of CG...his work is near flawless. This comment reminds me of my impression while watching the Hulk movie (what a POS) on TV the other night. I kept thinking to myself that the movie's editing looked like it had been done by first year film students, and not the top ones either.
9. Yes there is...comedians who believe themselves to be serious political pundits.
10. Stunning animation! I'm impressed beyond the ability to be able to properly articulate how cool it is. Not to defend HG, but aren't they farming out the cell animation and CG work to the same people responsible for Yukikase or Macross Zero? Your comment about "pure love" is much more cogent and applicable to the quality issue. Something, anything, done out of passion for the subject or art will always be superior, everything else being somewhat equal, to the "it's a living" attitude so common in the workplace. Besides, HG's efforts are meant to mimic cell animation, albeit unconvincingly thus far from the scant footage available, while MikeRB's definitely falls into the more "real to life" end of the spectrum.
11. You'd just need to be careful and use a fine grit wheel. By taking it slowly and grinding in small increments heat build-up and flaking should not become a issue.
12. If a co-worker started fiddling with my cannon fodder I'd get nervous too.
13. The 1/48 Yamatos are collectible toys for adults and have a commensurate durability. Treat them with due respect and they should last a life time. Give them to a 5 year old and they won't make it through the hour, let alone the day. If you're looking for bullet proof go with a chunky monkey.
14. I was wondering, couldn't you just grind the finger magnets down so that they present a flush, flat surface to the outside? That way, you would not have to figure out a way to hide them with "gak", you could just putty, sand, prime, and paint. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid notion...as in causing damage to the magnet.
15. Oh, you magnificent bastid!
16. Worst actor (one of many): Steven Segal Worst actress: Elizabeth Shoe...pretty enough, but totally sucks at acting.
17. No A1 = not a good thread.
18. Very tempting. Put me in the interested, for one copy, column.
19. http://www.elementvfx.com/zulufivetwo/temp/scout_01.mov 340412 Astonishing! My only criticism is that it is too short...I need to see more!
20. I rented that POS and came very close to making myself eat a bullet because of it...I'm just glad I didn't see it in the theater, the feeling of utter violation would never wash off. A Predator remake, in light of what Hollyweird has been pumping out for almost a decade, makes me shudder to think of the PG-13 CG goofiness of it all.
21. ugh, enough with the metal all ready... the alpha didn't need it and adding just mucked it up and made it floppy. just use high quality plastic 341054 Indeed. Couldn't have said it better myself. The Alpha seems to use diecast for diecast's sake, and not for the better.
22. I wouldn't mind getting 2 or 3 TV pilots myself. And if LV pilots were ever available I'd be all over those.
23. Correct me if Im wrong but isnt the MkII Viper the same as the 1978 one with just a colour change ?? 339861 The MKII viper is kind of the equivalent of the original Viper for the new BSG; it has the same design elements as a homage to the original, but it's totally different: it looks sleeker overall, shoots shells instead of lasers, has RCT nozzles, does not have the cool looking turbo boost ( I guess you could call the 1978 model the MKI).
24. Well, when I do that, I get 4. When you do it, you get 268.2 and then assert boldy that it's really the only reasonable conclusion. 338250 2 + 2 = 4 2 & 2 together is 22 Learn your math. (j/k)
25. Ah, the wonders of attempting to splice three disparate series into one monolithic jumbled mess...no matter how hard you try to shoehorn stuff in, or massage what's already there you can't make it all fit. And the fact that some people can not only take this bastard child called Robotech, and I like Robotech in its own right, so seriously, and actually quote lines of dialogue and specific episodes truly scares the $hit out of me. Everyone, just step back, take a breather, and let reality's perspective set in.
