Please help with the translation of a few words
Phyrox replied to rdenham's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
http://www.j-aircraft.com/research/jprimer.htm Also, if you have any interest in Japanese aircraft of the second world war, you need to own Francillon's book, which will have all this: http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Aircraft-Pacific-Rene-Francillon/dp/087021313X -
You mean why were the T-6/SNJ canopies open? Many pilots flew with their canopies open, particularly at low altitudes and speeds. Don't see it much on A6Ms, at least not in the photos I've seen, but it was done in many WWII aircraft.

I take it you mean a piston-engined propeller aircraft. They still have very hot engines, much hotter than the ambient environment. An IR missile would track them about as reliably as they track anything, which varies with environment and missile iteration.

The Crann Inorganic (the pink one) could carry a gun actually, so there’s that… I don’t understand the criticism regarding the lack of guns or flight. The addition of a gun would change the designs very little. A good or bad design should not hinge on whether the thing can shoot and fly. The original Robocop design doesn’t look like it has a gun at all, and that’s a great design, for example. Certainly within the context of the world they were designed for, a lack of armament is a serious flaw, but to base our appreciation of the design on that fact would be odd, in my opinion. I am not necessarily saying these are “good designs.” I like them, and that’s enough…but I can see they might be guilty of some aesthetic sins. PS- that comic-book flying Christmas ornament is no improvement, no way.

For me it'd be something that will never ever get made because 1) I seem to be the only person on earth who likes them 2) I seem to be one of the few people who remember them The "inorganic" designs from Robotech: The Sentinels They are so different and odd and unbalanced...they don't look like anything else. Ugly, ungainly, otherworldly... I'd buy 'em up. Oh yeah, useless without pictures: (not the original design sketches but from the robotech rpg book, close enough. also, not to scale)

I certainly wouldn't call it a "cool" video. Interesting though.

Ok Yamato, this is the next transforming toy we need!

Engineering-wise it's very cool. As a car it looks terrible and not much better as a robot. -
All three of these giant mecha are so forgettable that I have already forgot what they look like. This is gonna have to be an actual "good movie," to get me out of the house for it, because seeing those designs in action is certainly not gonna do it.

Calling Washington DC "New England" is a bit of a stretch. Besides that, there certainly shouldn't be a shuttle on the Enterprise.

This is neither good nor bad news, it is irrelevant news. The last truly great Star Wars product was the Tie-Fighter game (X-wing vs. Tie-fighter was pretty good too), it hasn't really been able to deliver since in my eyes. So I don't care what happens to it.

I thought the fact that you know how it's going to end, and you know nothing very dramatic can happen while the movie claims to be a true tale sort of hamstrung it. It was well acted and shot, I suppose, but boring. And I like slow boring movies...but this movie literally couldn't do anything to surprise you. Also, a waste of Arkin and Goodman.

I bring you the further adventures of the average modeler: To compliment my fictional German TD posted a few pages back (now being painted) I whipped up this quick build: It needs a bit more sanding and I think I am gonna trade my friend the individual links for some band tracks. High quality or no, I don't want to prep 700 pieces for a quick build.

The modeling gods probably don't like me very much...
Phyrox replied to GU-11's topic in The Workshop!
I use the widely available "surface primer for plastic an metal (grey)" by Tamiya, and I love it. A minute or so with the can and the model looks like it was molded in flat grey. I have never had any problems with it. -
I am no artist, to be sure, and you certainly have more talent than me, but I just have to note: The undereye/nose shading on every face is quite odd and distracting. I have no idea what purpose it serves other than to look like "he' drawing manga style!" The halo of highlighting around everyone's head is likewise puzzling and reinforces the aforementioned impression. Like I said, you have some talent, and it looks like your bodies/proportions are improving...I don't want to sound too critical, but the stuff I noted really stand out to me.

I'm a car guy, but I admit to not knowing anything about these Aussie musclecars. I will say that it looks hot. Very hot. I will offer this observation: when the body/panels have been significantly modded, it looks like overkill to get too creative with the paint/accents. The car has a great shape and lots of interesting details to attract the eye, don't mess it up with excessive striping or contrasts. The subtle yellow you have on some parts now looks quite good. I'm not really sold on the flat finish, but I know it's popular. That's just my opinion of course. Ignoring all that as the words of the ignorant, I'll just leave it as, "nice car man!"

I have become a bit of a movie curmudgeon lately, but that said: Saw it, loved it. The very ending seemed a bit forced, but that's my only issue. I'm thinking that isn't so.

I know a guy whose long driveway has a spur that he can drive down into an auxiliary garage with a car-sized turntable. The rest of the room is a den with a large plasma, full bar and a few chairs. The kicker is, the ceiling is glass and is actually the floor for his living room. Best garage ever.

Damn, those spits look nice. My AFV is a fictional WWII tank destoryer from the PS1 game Panzer Front I have modified the design a bit by going a bit more realistic (conventional engine and more modest gun), and went with a more jagdpantheresque roof arrangement.

Once again I intrude upon this thread of greats to show a humble project of my own. Given my limited skills and tools I think it's going pretty well:

Unless the rodents had their own miniature stasis/sleep chambers I'd imagine any onboard died pretty early on in the voyage. -
This.

To make a long argument short, I do not make much of this latest Earhart business.

Loved it. I particularly liked the wing-like thruster flares of the re-entering pods and the hopping. Also, the "feel" was great. Although, many trailers have the right feel where the actual project is campy or overdone. Looking forward to seeing more.

Yeah, Crosby, Stills and Nash aren't really that obscure...and I don't even like 'em.
