Did they ever explain how a mere 8 helicopters are carrying these huge robots? The carrying copters looked like Chinooks in some scenes, but there were a lot of Pave Lows as well..but even if we give them the lifting capacity of the largest extant helo, the Mi-26, it would take 90 of them to lift something with a weight of 1980 tons. That was the wiki spec...does the movie give a substantially lower weight that I missed. Because that was one part of the movie that really struck me as stupid every time they showed it.

I know everyone in here was probably seen it, and everyone has their opinions, but might as well add mine. Despite my love of monster movies and cool robots, this was, to me, typical Hollywood summer blockbuster. Nothing particularly special. Boring predictable script, forgettable acting, dumb plotholes, brainless action, and very nice special effects. You could tell that a lot of energy and care went into it...but not that much came out. I don't consider myself a movie snob, but perhaps I am one. I want more from my movies than bang bang slice slice boom boom. The robot designs never did grow on me, but perhaps I could have gotten into the Kaiju designs if they had been showcased better. As for the person who said this movie had done a great job world building: what are you referring to? Nothing about that world (apart from monsters and robots) was any different than this one, with the exception of a one line throwaway comment about a Kaiju-centric religious sect. It certainly didn't feel lived in, nor did it draw the audience into the world like movies I've heard that phrase otherwise applied to. Not a bad movie to be sure. But not a really good one either.

That doesn't always help. With the SS I mentioned above I'd often have cops do U-turns on highways to follow me when I was out for an evening cruise. I've had cops grill me on the car's ownership history and ask for reg. when I was sitting near it reading at a park. Fast car's just set off alpha male alarm bells in a lot of cops I think.

This is a nice place for us all to put our best ticket stories. Mine was was in my '70 SS454. I was heading to grab an afternoon burger with a friend and got caught in this terrible "school's out" traffic. Took me 20 minutes to go 2 miles, so when the road opened up, so did I. Down a nice grade and then we shot up the next hill like we had wings. The car was too loud to hear anything at full throttle, but in retrospect I think my buddy might have tried to yell something about cops or somesuch. Aaaaanyway, at the top of the hill I'm sitting across from the burger joint at a light, and I look in the mirror and see a christmas tree worth of flashing lights. So I pull into the parking lot and give the best mea culpa I can. "I haven't had the car long..." "It can sort of get away from ya, ya know...?" "My speed? Uh, the tach sort of obscures the speedo, was it bad?" Turns out I was somewhere in the triple digits, twice the posted limit, and I wasn't alone on the road. Felt safe at the time, but that's youth for ya. The cops were quite understanding and I didn't get towed and I didn't have to take a trip to the station. It was a hell of a ticket, but everything considered I got off light. What's yours?

Ya know, I own very few transformers (Lockdown and movie Ransack the only ones on display), but I could get really into a series of in-scale transformers. It'll never happen of course, because people want the "leaders" to be big, and everyone else to be about the same size, and because the real difference in size between a plane and a car is quite drastic...but I'd love to have a bunch of little car dudes, with some slightly larger tank/semitruck/commercial vehicle guys, towered over by a few aerialbots and seekers. A series like that...I'd buy. When I had my own office I decided to have a shelf dedicated to 1/144, to illustrate the sizes of various vehicles. I had a submarine, bombers, fighters (old and new), tanks, cars, a few people, a castle...I bought things I normally wouldn't just because it was in 1/144 and would be interesting standing next to a Lancaster. If there were a whole series transformers in the same scale, I'd buy 'em all. A scale would be really hard though. I think 1/48 might give you cars large enough to do some basic G1-esque transformations and still give you planes small enough to fit on a shelf (small planes like F-16s).- 17061 replies

I disagree, I would never suggest making a "statement" with my money. If people buy crap toys, the only thing you are guaranteed is that they will keep making crap toys.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - in theaters June 27, 2014

If it's gonna take 100 million dollars for them to get me another Lockdown toy, I'm in. Certainly won't watch the movie though. I hope there are more "odd" altmode figs though. Ransack the Albatros was a hoot. I'm hoping for something really unpredictable this time.- 950 replies

This is actually one of the best reviews I've read of this movie. Except for Weller's performance- 1020 replies

I was really disappointed in this movie. It had what promised to be a cheesy fun plot and humorously preposterous characters and ended up being terribly un-fun. It wasn't funny, the dialog was pitiful, and it totally lost its direction about half-way through. I wasn't expecting a "good" movie, of course, but I was expecting something cheesy and tongue-in-cheek. The previews made it seem like this was exactly what this would be. It turned out that it was just bad.

These don't have pilots. The guy with that contraption on his arm is, I believe just maneuvering the craft on the deck, as the flight computers won't be able to handle navigating a busy and unpredictable carrier deck. He's more a "remote aircraft handler" than a pilot. He won't be "flying" it once it's airborne.

Awe-some. This is one of the last HGUCs I've been waiting for. If they give me a Messala HGUC I can say Bandai have satisfied me (...well...HGUC Turn-X would be nice too...)

Here's my finally finished Sherman "Firebug" to go along with the fictional German TD I posted back in Feb. It isn't real (obviously), and firebug is my own made up nickname (shoulda probably used Arquebus, or Adder, or Anvil or something, but that's taking it too seriously) Not nearly as involved as making the German TD from scratch, but it was fun cutting and filling and sanding nonetheless. I'm no painter, but from a distance it looks alright.

First of all, love it. Secondly, I like the left lower leg design a bit more, looks more functional...but the one on the right "fits" the mech better. Either one looks a winner to me.

I really enjoyed everything but the last half-hour or so. It was almost as if they remembered, "oh yeah...we're making an action movie, get me some action set pieces and wrap it up!" In fact, I thought most of the action was a waste of time come to think of it.

Don't know how anyone can say the miniatures look nice, all I'm seeing are CG renders, which doubtless have a lot more detail than the tiny physical minis will, if these are even the same models the final version will be based on. But yeah, if this was "Next Gen" I'd be all over it regardless.

Totally unrelated to the question of the thread, but I just wanted to note that "stuck in my craw" means something was difficult to accept. It's a great expression and I wouldn't want to see it misused. Carry on.

Yeah, the drone. Soundwave is out, his wings are too important to his transformation, and I'm not going to be fiddling with those tiny wings. Starscream however...looks like it might be worth looking into. Thanks a ton.- 17061 replies

Here's a question out of left field: If, hypothetically, one were to attempt to make a custom TF using a model kit and the existing mechanism/hinges/basic transformation from an available toy; which transformer would be a good candidate? I know it's a foolhardy enterprise, and it may only be possible to create a shell-former...but it's a project I'm interesting in attempting. It would be about 5-6" long, and quite narrow. Although it would be an aircraft, the shape is more like a torpedo. Any doner TF suggestions, or any advice of any kind would be appreciated. Assuming all goes well with the mail, I'll have a few 1/48 Firebees to play with soon, and I think that's a great vehicle for a transformer.- 17061 replies

The Aventador is cool, I'd love a desk model of it, or to customize a kit of one. It looks mean. But to own one, and drive it for more than novelty's sake? Nope. All yours. Cars at these price points are all about making a statement, but they all seem to be making the same one, and it is a pretty immature one. I'm talking mostly of the aesthetics here of course. I know the engineering on some of these cars is as serious as a slide-rule. Don't get me wrong, I've had both a 454SS and a T/A as daily drivers...I know all about the joys of immature cars. I love them. But I want my "handmade, high-tech, costs more than some people make in a decade" sports car to be more. Much more.

Those are both quite bad. Where are the supercars that don't look like they belong in a 15 year old's sketchbook? Like the Mercedes SSK, and 8C 2900 Alfas, the early Ferraris...those were fast and classy. I know it makes me sound old...I've always been a bit of a curmudgeon...but where has the class gone? There hasn't been a supercar made this decade I wouldn't be a bit embarrassed to step out of. Although the Astons come closest
