Robotech Collection #6 YF-1R
Phyrox replied to VF-2SS-BloodPhoenix's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Old news. See threads (particularly pinned one) in the proper forum :Other anime/sci-fi. -
How about we limit it to 3 or so. "Favorite," doesn't mean much if you list 15 of 'em. I would say: Zetaplus C1 (Sentinel) Turn X (Turn A) Gerbera Tetra (0083) although I think the R-Jarja has the all-time best head...a little better than the S-Gundam)

Well, I am not really into guns much (have fired my friends' Garand, Mauser, Springfield, and M-1 carbine though...) What I would really like would be an Anti-tank rifle. Of course I wouldn't use it for anything, but a PTRD or PTRS would be so cool. I don't know why I like ATRs when I have almost no interest at all in other infantry weapons. I can't add much else in this thread.

Gotta say I didn't like it. Got the DVD, watched it once...don't even know where it is now. I can't comment on the manga, but the movie was just...not good. Too many things going on, with not enough attention given to any of them. At first it was boring, then when things picked up I wished they would go back to being boring... Soundtrack and animation were good though.

It is a S-Gundam (or Superior Gundam). the link says it right at the top. You think he could have done a better job with the "forehead V" though...
-
actually, I imagine it did take real, professional artists to put together the sentinels show. Just because you see "robotech," and have a knee-jerk reaction doesn't mean anything with the name is crap. The Sentinels scene with the Invid destroying Tirol always seemed alright to me. Overall some of the concepts were lame, and the animation wasn't all great, but the artists deserve their due...they are the Sentinels saving grace.

Nice work then. Very nice.

Thanks. I really like the Turn-X. The other turn-A Gundam stuff does nothing for me, but the turn X is very...differnet. In a good way.
-
Just picked up a Turn X kit, but the thing came with no instructions. Any here have some they can scan for me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Seems like Gear Krieg to me. And those "Allied" mechs look suspiciosly like one of the light mechs in Ring of Red (which had generally far more believable "WWII" mechs than this thing). although of course, none of them are really very believable. And what in the hell is up with 1/2 naked women? that kind of base pandering is soo low.

hellohikaru, where did you get that Legioss/Alpha? And more importantly, do you have more views and/or bigger versions?
-
"Difference being, DYRL being included in the TV continuity is based in fact, your random gibberish however isn't. And again, the fact that Nue says it's a movie within the continuty is all the evidence necessary to support that it always has been. " Are you serious here? Have you no incredulity at all?

Well that certainly is a different interpretation of the series ending. That is one of the things I like so much about EVA...that it is such a personal experience. There are SO MANY things to draw on and form theories and conclusions that EVA is different to each fan. With my friends we can argue for hours about Macross, Mospeada, etc...but when it comes to EVA, we just let each other be...way to much personal interpretation. Which is a good thing. Entertainment that makes you think. Oh, but dispite all the good evidence you provided, and the fact that it has apparently even been published...uh... your wrong.
-
God damn that POS PS2!!! I have never had any problems with DVDs before (except for Mospeada disc 4 skipping...) So I guess I will have to try it on another DVD player somehow. -it isn't a "skip" problem that FF would help. It is a black screen with "Disc error: cannot read disc." If I try to jump to any chapter after 20 I get the same response. GRRR!!!
-
Ok, so none of the menu options works except the middle "play" one...which I wouldn't mind so much if it did't say "cannot read disk" once I get to the scenes on the raised protoculture city. When I bought it it said it was region free...but damn this sucks. I can't understand why the menu doesn't work...but I am really pissed that I only get a little over 1/2 the movie (if that). What am I doing wrong here.

hmm...interesting. That last scene, where Ikari Shinji decides that he COULD be happy in a world in which he doesn't pilot EVA, and is congratulated by everyone always seemed to me to indicate that Shinji rejected the idea of giving up his identity. First of all, the whole episode, and Shinji's realization seem to certainly point to this conclusion. Secondly, the congratulations he recieves seems to indicate that his friends/family are proud and/or happy that Shinji managed to come to this (supposedly "correct") conclusion. I'm interested to hear your interpretation.
-
In the movie he makes the decision for humanity, in the series he makes a choice for himself. I see a difference there.
-
I'd really disagree here. Seems to me at least that the series showed us Shinji making a very personal choice about "instrumentation," and deciding he does have a place in the world. That humanity continues seems to be the only thing the two have in common...
-
hey, where's the Degenatron?
-
I don't think I've read a more self-righteous, yet poorly argued case in all my time at MW... Not to say you are necessarily wrong. Perhaps they intended ALL ALONG for DYRL to be a "movie in the continuity," but that goes against everything I have ever heard. Besides pointing to animation consistances which seem to circumstantially support your view, do you have anything else? say...a press release stating that "the upcomming Macross movie is actually supposed to represent a 'fictionalized retelling' of Space War I within the Macross universe itself." Or something that concrete? Or is it really all based on the premise that since FB2012 didn't use DYRL designs the rest all falls into place?
-
Which is why I have always liked the series ending best. I have read so many varying interpretations of EoE, that at times I forget what it is I think happened. I like the animation, I like the drama, action and import of all that happened in the movie, but I find myself more satisfied with the resolution from the series. Call me crazy...

gonzo:shogi kawamori's history with it.
Phyrox replied to zeus the zentran's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yah, seriously try to make your posts more readable. Seriously. As for Blue Submarine no.6, what exactly was Kawamori's role in that? -edit: OK, I just rechecked the DVD and Abombz is right- I liked Blue Sub no.6 as well, but would have appreciated a little more realism (and better music). -
Uh, I for one had always thought it was accepted that DYRL was created to be an alternate telling of a familiar story... and that it was "retconned" at a later date. certainly nothing in this thread has done anything to change my mind.
-
Well, I would agree with "Spanky" actually. Official or no, of something disagrees with the original source material (i.e. the animated episodes), then it is superseeded by said material. But that is just my opinion... I don't think you should care too much what other people think when it comes to what you want to hold as the "real" story. If you think the manga is more compelling and convincing, then by all means let that dictate what Evangelion is to you.

You can have one of the worst Gundam shows and still sell lots of kits. The two are not really related. I bought 0083 kits before I even saw the show. Then I saw it, didn't like it, but bought more. Sure the mecha are cool, but the show itself can still suck. Look at Gundam Sentinel. Hardly anyone in the states knows the full story (just short summaries, etc), but they eat up Sentinel kits/toys.
