Shame that Nexus jumped the shark by getting rid of OP-Intensify and punishing you for boosting, though. I might rent it eventually, but I sure as hell won't blindly buy it like I did the last 8 games. Who ever used OP-intensify anyway? I never have...seemed kinda cheap to me. Even when just playing against the AI/missions I only used it if I couldn't get a secret part and needed an unfair edge.

Another question: Do all of the english versions have the extra few pages at the end of technical/character/historical info? I remember reading somewhere a referrence to someone having that in his eng. #11, but I don't have any in my 11. Did I get a bum copy?

I asked this before, but didn't get the kind of answer I was looking for. How arcade-like is this game as far as engine and realism? I don't like the idea of taking dozens of missiles or being able to survive multiple missile hits...but I guess I could live with it if the flight dynamics felt right. I was very dissapointed with Secret Weapons Over Normandy and the lack of any "feel" for flight in that game. It is sad when the flight engine in Grand Theft Auto gets its more right than a dedicated flight game. This game sounds pretty good, but unless you guys tell me otherwise I'll steer clear.

What's all this about Halo having a great story line? I played through it with my friend last summer and it seemed pretty run of the mill to me. I thought the zombie stuff (whatever they were called) sucked almost all the fun out of the game and the story. Although truth be told, the non-spectacular storyline didn't affect my opinion of the game. I don't look to videogames for interesting or otherwise intriguing stories. That is what books are for (and some movies). I liked Halo, but I can't see buying a system for it. But FPS have never been my favorite genre. Armored Core, Grand Theft Auto, and Gran Tourismo...those are deal makers. Are there any semi-serious flight sims for consoles? I can't afford to keep my PC up with the latest games, so the best sims are out...but what I wouldn't give for a IL-2 type game on the consoles.

I didn't have much trouble with the Sweet mission...on the second part, make sure you aim for the hoods of the cop cars, they are area sensitive and catch fire/blow up much faster if you shoot the hoods (or bonnet if you not american)

Ok, Another question for those of you further allong in your FSS reading: I just finished English #10 (Japanese #4), and am wondering if the "Villdou" MH ever appears again or has any lineart/story associated with it. It was the MH that accompanied the Zakker and was destroyed by the Schpeltor in that volume. I really like what little I did see of it.

I've got it. I used the new control set up for about 5 minutes. I like the old way better, so I stick with it. I was having a good time with it, but then classes piled on the work, and GTA just came out...so it will be on the back-burner for a little bit. One thing I didn't like however was the new "reload" delay for solid ammo. Ever since my first AC game (Arena I think) I have used a chain-gun as my primary weapon, but this new reload makes it kinda...suck. Well, it isn't the reload pause alone, it is the horrible accuracy of machine guns now as well. I can understand some rebalancing and whatnot, but my usual load-out is crap for just about every mission. I tried out a few concepts, but like I said, other things have gotten in the way since then. I still like the game, it is just a bit frustrating that I have to totally rethink my AC design theories. edit - my standard "take most missions and arena opponent" AC was characterized by: quad legs chain gun on back flamethrower or empty left hand bazooka or lazer rifle right hand If anyone else can make that work as well for Nexus as it has for me in the previous half-dozen AC games, let me know.

Just a note, Several posters mentioned that the PG EVA was 1/60. I don't think that is the case. The Gundam PG kits are 1/60, but I don't think you can conclude that all PGs are 1/60 (as there is variation in HG scale, and possibly MG scale between series). In my understanding all the EVA kits are "box scale" (i.e. nothing concrete). I have never been able to find a definite size for the EVAs (which seem to vary in size throughout the anime), and doubt that the PGs are the 1/60. EVAs are certainly much bigger than mobile suits in any event.

Curious, what is there to hate about the movie? I admit there isn't much to love...but by the same token it is pretty inoffensive.

If I wasn't so behind out here I would be picking it up tomorrow...but as it is I should, really should wait at least a week or so. But I am really looking forward to GTA:SA. I don't think any other series I have ever played has as much replay value as the new GTAs. I just hope I like the "atmosphere." It took awhile for the environs of Vice City to reach the level of Liberty City coolness...but I couldn't go back becaue VC was so much bigger and deeper. I hope I instantly prefer SA to either.

You're fond of them, but don't know where to buy them? I'm confused...how can you be fond of something you don't have/know. Oh well, I get back issues off ebay or used book sites...I'm still not caught up, so I haven't even tried to get the latest releases yet.

glad to see you sharing these with the board. fantastic work

Ok, so I am going to try to get into Five Star Stories. The mecha and the convoluted plot/character developments seem to appeal to me so far. My question is this: The English-manga have gotten up to about #25 or so, which seems to correspond to volume 10 of the Japanese-manga. So for those who are up to date, how far along is the story? Is it near the end? Is there any real way of telling? Ohh, and if possible I would like to avoid spoilers. I know there is a pre-set story line, but I don't want any of the finer plot points given away yet. Thanks.

any idea of a definite release date for the Red Alpha? Valk-Exchange still says avail. in Oct., which is a fast closing window. Now that I really think about it. I will get all 4. I have always liked the Alpha, and this Toynami version is as good as it gets, toy-wise.

I figured out what it is I dislike about cosplay...and it isn't the people, or the costumes themselves. It's that discussion of it is always accompanied by the likes of: "Pretty cute...she doesn't have it going up there, and I wonder what her ass is like." Or "The best female cosplays are those that take off the costume after a while." Or "...yes she looks DELICIOUS...nice legs ...slurp..." Or "...indeed she's hot.. I'm not gonna say what I want to do to her though..." I mean, I know we all have to be a little immature to be spending time on a message board devoted to a 20 year old cartoon...but stuff like this makes me embarrassed to read the threads. When my girlfriend sees me reading a thread devoted to the flap mechanism of a VF-1 she thinks its a little odd, but when she sees me reading a thread with comments typified by those above she thinks I am a member of a board filled with pitiful, lonely fanboys or some other form of horney loser. I don't really think she is right...but I see her point. You can be horny without being pathetic about it.

that's not too necessary...discussion on macross MPs are all clustered in the first half, and the Mospeada/New Gen. in the latter half...its not a fine distinction, but it's good enough. and there won't be (i hope) any southern cross MPs, so no need to waste our time with a seperate section for that

well, I am not the most well-read on this topic, but I'll add what I can recall off the top of my head: there were studies done (during 1st or 2nd generation of real rotary wing...so fixed wing still mostly used guns) that indicated that if the helo pilot was very capable, and had a good machine that it made attack by fixed-wing fighters fairly ineffective. if I remember correctly, the study also indicated that the fighter had very little to fear from the helo as well (even assuming one had respectable armament...which of course wasn't the case at the point of these studies). I recall reading about a case where an Iraqi Mi-24 claimed a victory over an Iranian F-4...but it was based on luck and had nothing to do with any intrinsic advantages or disadvantages of rotary-wing vs. fixed-wing aircraft (the "hind" pilot saw the "phantom" first and pointed his nose in the right direction and let fly with all the 57mm rockets on board). I have read this in more than one source, but am still not 100% sure as I have never seen it in any unimpeachable sources. All in all, I would imagine that the situation hasn't changed too much since that initial study was done. Technology has progressed a great deal as far as weapons and detection systems, but I still think that given any sort of actual terrain and a good aware pilot, a helo could concievably avoid being shot down long enough for it not to be worth the effort...

Shin Seiki Gokin: 1/48 Airwolf by Aoshima
Phyrox replied to Valkyrie Hunter D's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
27"? Geez thats twice as long as a 1/48 Valk in fighter mode. Oh well, got 3 months to figure out where it would fit for display . . . I think you are getting your metric and imperial measuring systems confused. In fact I did a bit of computing, and am now sure of it. -
what do I think? Not going to happen.

Would you buy models from Southern Cross?
Phyrox replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm sure you hear this all the time... but it ain't going to happen, so don't waste your time. Seriously. Use this energy to get a custom model maker to create one-offs for you. -
http://www.gearsonline.net/ideon/ great site (i've never looked at the fugly Ideon stuff though)

only Zeo-mare is under the impression that it is a model...no one else has mentioned it, as it is pretty obviously a photo.

been posted already...but still cool i guess

Don't think I'll pick this up...my launch PS2 still suits me.

No. The exteriors are very similar, but that's about it. The internals are quite different.
